Alone time

Kori was sitting in her room deciding what to do next. She severely underestimated how hard of a job this was going to be. Bea was so kind and caring she really didn’t want to hurt her. Once again she had to remind herself that it was this or an all out war, The lives of so many depended on the death of this one person, no pressure. Said person walked into the room.

“Can I help you, princess?”

“I’m going on a walk, would you care to join me?”

She’s more lonely than Kori thought. As tired as she was she would be stupid not to take the opportunity to be out at night alone with the princess, it would make it impossible for them to trace the murder back to her. It also just sounds better than sitting on her bed planning her next move.

“I’ll come in just a minute!” She got up and put her dark locks back into a ponytail. Her hand hovered over the revolver for a second before she grabbed it and secured it under her dress. It’s now or never.

“Aww i thought your hair looked nice down,” Beatrice teased. She just smiled back.

They walked out together to the castle courtyard. It was late and the stars glimmered above them. It was peaceful. Kori felt a warm hand brush against her own, she looked up to see the princess swinging her arms as she walked. It was energising to be around someone so full of life. Beatrice led her to a crystal clear pond with lily pads. The grass around it was covered with beautiful flowers. She plucked a rose out from the lawn and held it out to Kori doing a playful bow. She took it, smiling.

“This is where I like to come to get away from all my responsibilities”

“It’s very pretty” Kori was talking about the garden but she never took her eyes of the girl’s face

They sat next to each other at the edge of a pond. The breeze lightly blowing. Kori thought for a bit before trying to start a conversation.

“Forgive me for my boldness but you seemed upset when Henry mentioned the ball”

“I mean, does being in a room with 30 guys who all want to marry you seem fun to you?” She replied with a slight chuckle to mask how much she was dreading it.

“Not at all”

“It’s the day after tomorrow so at least I have some time left, not that I’ll be doing anything other than working”

“I’m sure we could squeeze something fun in,” Kori wasn’t lying, she really wanted to do something that would put her friend at ease. Okay friend was a strong word. She decided she could probably wait a little longer, it would be suspicious if she were to die the day she started working here. So for the first time all day she took a deep breath and felt relief.

They sat there talking for who knows how long. From everything from their favourite music to their aspirations for the future. Beatrice wanted to be a baker and Kori wanted to be an artist, they both knew deep down it would never happen but it doesn’t hurt to dream.

“We should probably head to our chambers. We have a busy day tomorrow” Beatrice said, getting up and holding her hand out for Kori. It was warm and soft.

“Goodnight princess”

“Goodnight Kori”
