Just as she had done for every other school break time prior to this one, for what felt like the millionth time this year, rather than going to hang out with kids her age, young Yumeko stood by herself on the school roof.
A high school Otaku, and self-acknowledged anime-nerd, Yumeko didn’t have many friends, and wasn’t quite the social girl, despite being quite cute - making her an open target for male bullies.
Just in that instant, as she stared up at the Sun, a beautiful source of light, it seemed as if one was approaching from behind. Not noticing, Yumeko thought to herself about what it would be like to have a boyfriend - something she had never experienced, but longed for.
“Oh boy, if it isn’t the lonely Yumeko Asami!” called the guy who stood behind her, quickly gathering a crowd of kids who were too scared to fight back against him. Sighing, Yumeko turned to face him and the public which neared her.
With a hanging face, and low mode, Yumeko prepared herself to be harassed by the boy again - which he went to do proudly.
“Let me guess, thinking about your anime boyfriends, again?” the boy teased, before reaching for Yumeko’s bag, which sat next to her on the ground,
“Eh, l-leave that alone!” Yumeko stuttered, trying to take her bag back from the boy, who had already snatched it, and now held it up in the air away from her.
“Just what do you have in here, anyways?” he then asked, before unzipping the bag, and shaking it - allowing its contents to fall to the ground.
Worried for more of herself to be revealed to the school, Yumeko rushed to lay atop her pile of papers, and hide what appeared on them. Clearly, from his angry expression, her oppressor did not like this very much.
“Move it kid.” he grunted, trying to push her away from the heap with his foot. But, Yumeko did not budge, instead, she stayed still - attempting to hold her ground.
Crouching down to face her directly, the bully threw a serious face at Yumeko. “Get off the papers now!” he ordered, but Yumeko still refused.
With this being the first time that anyone had questioned the bully’s authority, all the other kids began to gasp, before the bully cracked his knuckles. Hurriedly, they all then backed off, bracing for a potential fight.
Finally scared, Yumeko got off the papers, and backed towards the railing.
“It seems you took the easier route…” the bully mumbled before taking a paper out of the pile and staring at it intently. As he did so, his eyes widened, worrying Yumeko who looked directly at him.
“Kenta Moroboshi - head leader of a gang!?” he read from the papers. “Is this seriously supposed to be me!?” he then exclaimed before ripping up the paper, and tightening his fist.
Whimpering, Yumeko looked down as she sat on her knees, and covered her head.
But just before Kenta could throw a punch of any kind, a teacher stepped outside to intervene. “Kenta, Yumeko, what are you two doing!?” she asked, causing Kenta to face her.
A squirmy Yumeko also slowly lifted up her head to face the teacher - who by now, had crossed her arms in what was most likely disappointment. A guess further proved by her next line - “Kenta, get over here!”.
Before leaving, Kenta faced Yumeko one last time. “You’re lucky for now you prick - but don’t think I’ll be so easy next time I see you.” he warned.

Distressed and depressed, Yumeko rushed to pick up all of her papers, stuff them into her bag, and run off, trying to avoid the kids who had already begun to laugh at her.
Dashing down the stairs, and only thinking of what had just happened with tears going down her face, Yumeko did not pay attention to what was occurring in front of her, and quickly collided with another kid.
“I-I-I’m sorry!” she cried, bowing down to show her utmost respect too.
With a slight amount of sweat, the boy scratched the back of his head. “Don’t worry about it.” he told Yumeko, before picking up some of his books.
“I-I’ve got it!” Yumeko insisted. Within no-time, she was down on her knees and picking up the books, which the boy took into his arms. When she finished cleaning up the mess, she then looked up for a response, but gasped herself.
“Something wrong?” the boy asked her, not knowing what could possibly garner such a reaction from the girl.
With her face turning beet-red, Yumeko then replied with a loud “Uh-uh, nothing!”, to which the boy sighed.
“Hm,” he started, acknowledging her answer, before giving a new statement - “Uh… So, do you mind getting up now? I can kind of see your panties.”
Yumeko jumped up, and adjusted her blue and white Lolita-dress, as well as her big brown scruffy socks in her even bigger brown boots. “My apologies!” she cried.
“You’re a very emotional girl.” the boy then spoke, before touching at the star-pin in Yumeko’s hair.
“Ah-Ah-Ah….” Yumeko sounded, as the boy fooled with her.
Stopping afterwards, he then put his hands back to his sides. “Anyways, I’ve got to get going now.” he declared to Yumeko, who put on a sad look.
“Oh, I see. Catch you in the halls then?” she questioned, hoping to see the boy sometime in the future.
“I guess…?” the boy then uttered - “I’m not exactly sure I plan to meet you again, but it wouldn’t be bad to.”.
To these responses, Yumeko was startled. Fumbling over her words, Yumeko then tried to spit out a sentence to the boy, which appeared less coherent than she had planned - “Well, I wasn’t planning to see you either… But I’m not saying I wouldn’t like to… But I’m also not saying I would…!”.
After seeing her go on for a few seconds, the boy put his hand on Yumeko’s shoulder, and his other in her pocket, where he deposited a gift. “Good-bye.” he stated with a pause in between, before running up the stairs. “See you soon crazy girl!” he then also exclaimed.
Dizzy from love, Yumeko shook her head, and pulled the gift out of her pocket. It was a gift card - and the top read ‘Tenya Kazami, son of Daichi Kazami, owner of Kazami Technologies Inc.’.
“Wow!” Yumeko shouted with rosy cheeks, as she stared at Tenya’s photograph. “When was this taken?” she asked herself, before being bumped in the back.
“Y-Yes?” she asked, as she slowly turned to the man who stood behind her.
The man was an elderly janitor - who all the kids at school knew. “Do you need something?” Yumeko asked in a more confident voice.
“Get off the darn staircase!” the janitor shouted, lifting up his mop which he had used to tap Yumeko up like a pitchfork.
“My bad!” Yumeko would yell, prior to running out of the stairwell, and to her next class. Upon arrival, such class proved to be empty - as break had yet to be ended. But, Yumeko still decided to stay in. “I guess I’ll just wait for class to start, and read or write my manga…” she groaned, as she sat down, and pulled out her bag.
After opening her bag, she immediately screamed. “Oh come on!” she cried, looking at her damaged drawings on old maths class papers. Sighing, she then pulled out a manga, and began to read.
In the manga, she came across a panel where a girl confessed her feelings to a guy, making her pout her cheeks - and slam it shut. Cooling off, she dropped the manga into her backpack, and pulled out a new one. In this manga, the antagonist stood in front of the protagonist, and prepared to tell the story’s dark purpose to him.
When she flipped the page, Yumeko realised that it was love, and slammed the manga close, similar to the last one. This time, she dropped it on the ground, and banged her head on the desk twice.
Looking towards the board now - which was littered with chalk drawings and messages from all the classes before hers, including ones about love, Yumeko began to shake, sweat, and tear up.
“Why can’t I have a boyfriend…?” she asked herself, as she began to cry - “Why can’t I have someone to be loved by, and give love to…?”.
Now looking out the window, where a couple kissed under a tree a few metres away, Yumeko begged “Why must my life be so boring…? Dear God, please take my boring life away.”.
As she now looked down at her desk, getting ready to whine more, a flash of light from the window caught her eye.
Wiping her tears away, and focusing on it, Yumeko soon came to learn that the flash of light was heading her way. Surprised, she gasped, all before the flash of light came smashing through the classroom window, and onto the floor in front of her.
