Chapter two: Another me?

Chapter two: Another me?

I wake up in an unknown room. My head hurts. I can’t think of anything.

After a few minutes of struggling in pain, my head starts to clear out. I try to look around the room but I only find grimy walls and a small door made of metal bars. Now I remember. I remember being in squalor, beaten by the humas in an alley. But.. I don’t remember my name, or how I got here.

And then I get confused. I remembered something else. I remember hunting for prey in a forest, only to vent my anger. But.. I’m a humas? Or what’s happening?

I try looking at my body, only to discover my filthy skin is mildly red colored and I have rudiment wings. One of them is missing some of it and bleeding. I feel that it hurts, but I'm used to it.

But thinking through, the two myself I remember are very different. So different one of them is from another world? How, and why? Still, none of them are me, yet both of them are. I can only understand that because the earth me was clever, but she had bad anamnesis. I know I’m in the other one’s world.

I’m a demon. My body is. And a blood demon at that. The color gives it away. Not sure what species. I don’t know my parents and a humas orphanage took me in. They fear my color for some reason. They said I would probaly be killed if found outside of town.

“Shit happens but I can’t look at myself like any of my memories. They feel alien, not me.”

When the shades in front of my ““door”” starts to disappear a humas comes and throws some kind of bread near me. He repeats this at the other cells.

“I’ll be sold as a slave, won’t I?” I ask myself quietly. I don’t expect response but the humas turns to me. He stares at my body for a while.

“If you are lucky, you will be some pervert’s dress up doll. It’s not pleasant, but better than the ones who like to torture demons. But no matter what don’t try to run away. You will regret it, I say it from experience.” He points at his neck, with a huge burn. The burn reads ““slave””.

“If you are obedient and try to earn favors you might get a tolerable job like me. 3 cheap meals a day and a job. How old are you anyway?”

He looks at me with his brown and worn eyes. He gave up life already. He’s tall and slim, and limping when he moves. Some kind of reason I find myself clinging to the metal bars.

“I’m… 6 years old…” At least my body. With both lives I’m 20 probably? Not sure how I should count it.

I myself find my voice charming. Strange. Instincts maybe? His eyes shows some pity. First expression he showed.

“6 year old demon girl… Adorable voice, lovely body. You will worth a lot. I pray for the best.”

He turns and walks away, not even looking back. It’s understandable. No one with morals could do such a thing, but he won’t risk his life for petty thing like morals. He was a slave too long for that.

I try to peek in other cells but I can’t see anyone. Judging from the voices they are all children. Crying, sleeping, munching on the rock hard bread we got. I can’t eat. I’m neither hungry nor able to in this smell of excrement and filth.

I just realized, we don’t have water. I don’t need water for weeks, but don’t the humas die without it in days?

Shifting my senses I heard the guy coming again and water splashing on the ground. After some time I hear a bucket hitting the ground, and then splashes. This repeats a few times until I’m the next in the line. A thin, square shaped bucket hits the ground, he pushes it in, between the iron bars. He’s still holding it with one arm.

“Hurry up please” He says. I crawl closer in the slight darkness and put my hands in the half empty bucket. I take a sip using my hands, then push it back. It's full of dirt.

“Thanks” I say. He lifts the bucket in surprise.

“You were crying and trembling in the corner for weeks, not eating or drinking, let alone speaking. I thought you would die.” His voice is indifferent, but I can see that he’s pitying me.

He goes back to continue his job, then leaves again. Since the others had to come to the front to drink, I saw one of them. In the cell in front of me there is a humas girl about 16 year old. She would be adorable without the mud and filth on her.
