Chapter 10

After some time Cole back and Menlyn saw him sit down again, he was probably waiting for his phone to charge and she saw that he was battling with a headache. But why didn’t he say a thing?

Menlyn was annoyed that her conscience was bugging her, and after twenty-five minutes the gate rang and she went to answer it.

She came back with the food she had ordered and placed one package in front of Cole, who was surprised and looked very grateful.

She went to the kitchen and came back and set down some aspirins in front of him and he tried to speak as he was scarfing down his food.

“Finish your food first Cole.”

He nodded and carried on wolfing it down. Menlyn also dug in her food and washed it down with coffee.

Cole finished his food which was a lot and drank the aspirins, “Thank you so much Birthia, you helped me a lot.”

“No problem.” As she carried on typing her work.

“How did you know that I needed these?”

“I saw you rubbing your head.”

“That’s nice of you Birthia, you have very different sides to you.” And he smiled at her fondly that Menlyn was starting to feel caught off guard.

“That side is called being a decent human being, so stop reading much to it.”

Cole nodded, “Can I see what you are working on?”

“Are you always this noisy?”

Cole chuckled, “No, not really but I if I’m interested in someone then I tend to be. Sweet place you have here by the way.”

“Thank you.”

“Is this what you always do on weekends?”

“Yeah pretty much.”

“That’s not fun.”

“Yes Cole it’s not but to live a life that I want, I have to.”

“I mean you could take a break for a couple of hours.”

“I could but I choose not to.”

Cole laughed at her answer, “your stubborn persona amazes me.”

“I’m glad it does, maybe that ought to teach you a lesson or two.”

Cole laughed more, “What lesson would that be mam.”

“Responsibility, I am quite surprised that you can sleep so easily at a stranger’s house.”

“Well, you are not a stranger Birthia.”

“You were lucky that it was me, Cole, what if something happened to you?”

Cole rubbed the back of his head, “I know it was bad of me but I guess it turned out to be destiny that I met you here.”

“There is no destiny, just pure coincidence.”

“You are really tough to crack Birthia.”

“I’m not some museum or code to be cracked Cole, and what time are you actually leaving?”

Cole pouted at her, “But I want to stay with you.”

“Nice try, or do you want me to call a cab for you?”

“Mmm, let me see if I get a call or I might have to take you up on that offer.”

Menlyn nodded, “Okay.”

“Can I change the channel?” Cole asked.

Menlyn threw him the remote, and Cole changed the channel and Menlyn could hear him laughing and it was totally different from what she was used to.
