Chapter Eight: The Curse

Steam drifted through the tiled bathroom. Erza pulled the black shower curtain back and stepped onto the grey bath mat with a sigh. This was the only piece of carpeting she allowed in her domicile but only because she'd fallen on her ass too many times on the slick porcelain. Vladimir had been exuberant at the chance to add a rug. She suspected him of waxing the floor to facilitate her decision.

She briskly rubbed a grey cotton towel over her long limbs, uncaring if she missed a spot. She needed to get back to the men, who were cleaning themselves up in their large communal bathroom. Being the only female gave her certain perks, but she didn't have time to enjoy her private bathroom. They needed to plan their next move, and she needed to meet with the Council to explain their findings. She yanked on her undergarments and pants. Her mind whirled in circles with everything needing done.

Her left eye twitched violently-- a buzzing sensation under the skin.

No... It can't be. It hasn't happened in weeks. There's no way it could happen today of all days. I have no time to bother with that shit!

She pulled her shirt on and wiped the steam off the mirror, panic freezing her very marrow. Her blue left eye slowly cleared, becoming lucid as her green right eye frosted over. Her vision slowly darkened.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

Damn it all! Not now! This is bullshit! She mentally screamed.

She snatched up her phone, shooting a detailed set of instructions to her warriors, before throwing it onto the counter. She flew into her adjoining bedroom, caught up her katana, and swiftly locked it in the large wardrobe in the corner. She chucked the key up into the high, hanging lamp, where no one could reach it without a heavy ladder.

Breathing heavily, she sat down at the delicate, wrought iron table.

Please, she prayed to any and all Gods willing to hear. Please don't let anything happen this time...

The darkness stole her consciousness.

She giggled. Picking up the tiny cup on the white, frilly table, she sipped at the imaginary tea. Glimpsing the locked wardrobe, she looked up, and spotted the key in the hanging lamp. She rolled her eyes, amused at her Regina's hurried preparations.

"Erza's being silly again, isn't she?" she asked of the giant stuffed bear sitting opposite her. She poured him some tea, nodding firmly.

"I know, I know, but this is the last time, so we may as well enjoy it. Would you like to hear me sing? Wonderful! I know just the song!" she said, clapping her hands happily before picking up the teapot and pouring an imaginary cup for the Barbie doll to her left.

She hummed a few bars, then opened her full lips and sang.
