XG 26 - Are they really your bodyguards?
Sergeant Bolek was shorter than his comrades walking behind him, but the muscles under his forest green uniform were intimidating, especially with his flashy badges. His steps were heavy and there was a gun in his hand at standby. With a soldier whispering to his ears as they walked, his expression was not happy when his gaze flickered to the carriage with survivors getting in.
With a wave of a hand to dismiss his informant, his severe expression hardly eased when he saw Suzie Yap. “Mrs Wong. To think you manage to survive and escape from the building. I have truly underestimated a mother on a mission to save her daughter. Mr Wong will definitely be at ease knowing you and your daughter survived.”
Sergeant Bolek could easily see this group of survivors were symptom-free but still ordered the medic team to check them for any bite wounds and treat their injuries if they were confirmed to be clean. Vihaan did not resist and immediately had Kim Sung-Ho get the check-up first.
“My dear husband had contacted you?” Looks like that old man could still do something even on the private jet.
“He asked me a favour, to delay the bombing till tomorrow morning. Now that I see you, I finally understand why he’s confident that you will make it.” Sergeant Bolek’s expression was hard to see with his extremely tanned skin, but his sneer revealed his white teeth. The whiteness was eye-catching in the dark.
Suzie Yap smiled. “Then we have truly troubled you. Now that we are out, please ignore my husband’s favour and proceed with your original plans. Truly, we are inconsiderate and delayed the infection containment procedure.”
“Remind your husband to keep his word.” Sergeant Bolek would never want the bargain to be nullified when he could get a promise from the pharmacy owner Charles Wong.
Actually, he was not in a terribly bad mood for the bombing to be delayed since Charles Wong was not the only one asking him to do so. The Ambassador of Canada and the Chief of Police had also joined in to request him to halt the bombing until the rescue attempt was completed. Now that everyone was successfully rescued, he could finally do his task and avoid being held responsible if the infection spread.
“I will pass your word to him.” Suzie Yap did not promise anything beyond that. Their business should be solved by themselves. In the first round, it was her that owed Sergeant Bolek a favour, but this man had died before he could redeem it.
Would he live longer this time?
While the adults were talking, Wong Xue Guo’s attention was on the carriage. Her heart shook fiercer the more passengers in the carriage grew. It was also shaking rather scarily, and the survivors were yelling and shoving around to find a spot to get in. Someone yelled that they would come back for the second round, but no one wanted to wait for fear the monster would arrive at their hiding place.
They had made a lot of noise already. It was a matter of time before the zombies would find them.
“Prepare for the bombing! Set off once ready! Soldiers, shoot those with signs of infection! If there are too many people, just shoot!” Sergeant Bolek ordered grimly.
While it was good that there were survivors actively climbing out of the building, it was also a bad thing to suddenly have a large number of them at the same time. His men would have trouble identifying the infected among the mass and it would bring chaos if they do not control it. Sergeant Bolek could only harden his heart and order these innocent civilians to be shot.
The necessary equipment had already been delivered to the site and only required installation, which would not take a long time. The faster the bombing, the lesser chance it would spread.
Suzie Yap brought her daughter to the medic team and was assigned to two women. They do not need to strip as they were still in public without anything to block prying eyes from them. But the search was thorough and proper.
The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.
The mother and daughter's serious injuries mostly centred on their palms for holding onto their weapons tightly. Wong Xue Guo saw her mother's fingernails with fancy manicures were mostly ruined, along with a few broken nails that had her wince from just seeing them.
With her hands treated, Suzie Yap took out her mobile phone from her pants pocket that she had changed into after discarding her bloody dress.
"Xunsu, how's the situation at your end?" Suzie Yap immediately asked after the call was connected.
Hearing the name, Wong Xue Guo no longer pretended to be disinterested and openly stared at her mother to eavesdrop.
Kang Xunsu was the captain of the Wong family's bodyguard team. A rugged-looking man that was also Wong Xue Guo's secret accomplice when it comes to watching anime.
Until now, Wong Xue Guo could not understand why Brother Xunsu's favourite was an unhinged character, just as he could also not understand why she liked a white-haired boy character in HunterxHunter anime. Their tight friendship always had their boat overturned when it comes to their favourite man.
"We got out of the car park before it was sealed thanks to the military's help. Ma'am, I take it you are out with the little princess?"
Kang Xunsu sounded nonchalant, but Wong Xue Guo guessed the situation would be very messy. Unless most people got attacked before they could reach the parking lot, that area will be much safer.
But she doubted it.
"Yes. I will share my location later."
Their injuries were not much, so the ladies finished the check-up early and waited for the males. Being in a semi-safe environment, Wong Xue Guo could not stop nodding her head as her eyes were already closed halfway.
Chen Yibo was watching the carriage with a stifled heart at his helplessness but was soon distracted by the sleepy Wong Xue Guo. In any case, watching her nodding off was more peaceful than watching the carriage that was at the edge of collapse.
It was the loud screams that smashed Wong Xue Guo's sleepiness away and had her heart beating frantically.
"Fucking retard! The carriage fell!" Chen Jiang An screamed in horror, watching the people hanging onto the carriage that had collapsed halfway.
There were a few people that had dropped a long string of makeshift rope, using it to climb down the building. Unfortunately, their distance from the carriage was quite close and when the carriage fell, the passengers panicked and jumped onto the makeshift rope. Now, the people climbing down from the rope were in danger as well.
"The military will deal with them. Let's leave quickly," Suzie Yap gathered them after everyone was done.
No one stayed behind to watch, especially when they could distantly hear more inhuman growls and sounds of gunshots join in.
They had to walk quite a distance away from the mall before they spotted the white jeep they were looking for. Someone was seated in the driver’s seat and another person was outside the car, leaning on the door.
The man with crew-cut hair straightened his body from the car as soon as he saw them approaching. "Sorry, Ma'am, but they don't allow us to get in anymore after telling us to stay far away."
"No trouble." Suzie Yap waved the small matter away. She had low expectations of her bodyguard's capability anyway.
The long-haired blond man exited the car and greeted Suzie Yap and Wong Xue Guo with detached politeness. Their clothing was slightly messy from the trouble they encountered, but luckily they were not wounded.
"Hey, Guo Guo." Cheng Jiang An inched closer to Wong Xue Guo and spoke with a low voice. "Are they really your bodyguards?"
Wong Xue Guo nodded. "Why? They don't look like it?"
In fact, Low Lin Ya had mentioned the same thing after seeing them for the first time. She was immediately smitten with the blond-haired L.L, the second in command of the bodyguard team.
"They are different from how I imagined them to be." Chen Jiang An thought these dudes looked like big brothers from a gangster group instead of bodyguards.
Chen Yibo, the neighbour of Wong’s family and also a family friend, has met them before so it was not unusual in his eyes. He used to have bodyguards too, but they were more centered around his elder brother and father, as both of them were researchers working for one of the top pharmacies, the Winter Fruit Pharmacy. Often, they also worked for the government if the latter asked them to help.
But after Chen Yibo grew leaps and bounds in taekwondo and karate, the number of his bodyguards lessened until they completely disappeared, which also contributed to him not liking people watching over him as if he was doing something wrong.
Kim Sung-Ho does not mean to eavesdrop, but their conversation was rather interesting that his eyes unconsciously turned in their direction.
"Because they don't wear black suits, sunglasses, and communication earplugs?" Wong Xue Guo sneered when Chen Jiang An vigorously nodded. "If they wear that, how are they going to blend in and do their job? The bodyguards in suits look tacky, very much like high school students in uniform, unlike mine which is at the college level with their casual attire. Assistant monitor, you don't print out your title and pin it to your shirt just to prove you have that job, right?"
Her words were on point, but why does Chen Jiang An feel as if she was scolding him?
