-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An umber-brown, ancient forest reeking of age from centuries of snapping branches crashing to the forest’s floor and rotting silently. The composting, organic smell rose up in waves like a miasma. Huge roots spread-eagling the ground, twisting like the great backs of legless reptiles. The aged trees had creaking branches. The foliage, thick and lush, was forming an arch of fairytale-green. Shuffling noises were coming from deep in the interior, deadened by the cunningly woven web of leaves. Mushrooms grew under the shady roof of the forest. A troupe of shambling badgers was crossing the winding trail. Berries lay ripening under the leafy dome of the forest. Snuffling boars were eating under combs of feathery moss.

The orchestra of birdsong could be heard. A pair of jays was screeching high up in the canopy of the trees. Scurrying squirrels were searching for food under bristles of wispy moss. Hares were scampering away into the forest.

In high above the trees, troop of monkeys were leisurely eating fruits, leaping among branches, grooming each other. Among the troupe with a flash appeared a 15 inches tall monkey. Feeling energized by sudden change in location, young monkey was looking around with curiosity that only new-born could show. A monkey, little big and little older version of the newly appeared monkey approached him, which the young one believed him to be an elder of this ‘monkey clan ’.

“You seem to be new one. Take this yellow fruit, for now. From now on you will have to get your own food.” He said or more like screeched. Funny it was, since small monkey only heard noises and yet he did completely understand what he said. The young monkey was flabbergasted.

Looking at the delicious Mango and famished by its sweetened smell, the new monkey, with little difficulty, but surely with exceptional dexterity, ate the mango without dirtying himself. This young monkey was in a predicament.

The last thing he knew was being in a plane to London which in an unfortunate situation had crashed. He for some reason didn’t remember the crash or the pain of death. He observed himself again and again. He didn’t need to pinch himself to let him know he was awake. But what he didn’t understand was – why was he in a body of a Monkey.

The only possible conclusion could be he was reincarnated. He wasn’t sure how he should feel. Should he feel happy that he was given a chance at life or he should be sad that he will have to live as a monkey whole his life? This monkey in his previous life went with the name of Ajay. He may not have been a genius at what he did, but he knew what makes a race a civilized one. But before him were a troop of easy going and lazy monkeys. He was doomed to live like them. He didn’t have an aversion to such a life. But he doubted, he could survive in forest. He might have had body of monkey, but inside, he mentally was a human and a weak willed one at that.

He could feel fear seeping from his bones, his fists becoming cool, profusely sweating. The young monkey took deep breaths, closed his eyes, told himself, “I am Monkey and as well as a Human. I can survive.” He didn’t want to start his new life with fear. He wanted face it with smile. He forced himself to smile.

The monkey gave an awkward smile to no one in particular. One could have seen its sharp canine and strong teeth. Smiling worked wonders on the young monkey. His fear slowly started to turn into excitement, to try something new. But again he stopped himself. Forest is not a playground, at least not yet. Getting excited will only create problems for him.

He, with great effort calmed himself down. He felt tranquil. But to throw all his effort into sea, with a ‘ding’ sound appeared a dialog box or may be a pop up, hovering before his eyes.

Due to your efforts ‘Calmness’ stat has been created.

Calmness rises by 1 point. (+1 Calmness)

Now, the young monkey really was flabbergasted. Yet he calmed his nerves. He didn’t knew it was because of the stat or it was his own effort. But he could think for now.

He noticed many a blinking things hover at a corner of his eye. He looked to side, to only find them moving farther away. He understood, they were like this pop up which was hovering and telling about ‘calmness’. He touched the blinking notifications.

Generosity of Goddess Versailles

The goddess of Versailles had listened to your request of changing race into human. Given the nature of the request, it wasn’t granted to you. But understanding your predicament of living in a body which isn’t natural for you, Goddess of Versailles has given you this quest. The quest is to create an item which can depict into how you want to transform.

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Difficulty Level: Unknown

Reward: Depends upon your actions.

Note: This quest cannot be deleted.

The young monkey couldn’t make out of what this quest was telling him.

Who is goddess of Versailles? When did I request her to change my race into human? I just only came to know that I am a monkey. But wasn’t it blinking since I appeared here. What? Appeared here?

The young monkey looked around again, realizing and questioning himself how can he just appear out of nowhere? To his shock another monkey about the same size as him appeared with a flash and the elder monkey approached him and offered him yet another mango.

Unable to understand, to clarify his doubts the young monkey or Ajay looked around in search of motherly monkey. But he didn’t find one. Getting his wits together, piecing every fact – hovering dialog boxes, creation of stats and appearance of quests – he could only make one conclusion. This was a gamer type world.

Apprehensively, Ajay tried to say, “Show status”. He could hear his own voice making noise that of a monkey. He wasn’t sure anything would appear. But he wasn’t disappointed.

* Due to being animal, +10% in increase in skill experience gain of physical natured skills.

* Due to being a monkey, -50% decrease in skill experience gain of intellectual natured skills.

Ajay wasn’t a gamer in his previous life. He was only an avid reader. He read many stories about virtual reality games, or people reincarnated in such worlds or simply transported into world of magic. He used to imagine himself as one of those many a times. In fact he wrote many such stories in Japtem and Royalroadl. But writing was one thing and living in it was one thing. He felt exhilarated at this rare opportunity given to him. He was about to thank god, but then many doubts resurfaced.

Who is goddess of Versailles? Being human is what I naturally would want. But I never asked anyone for that. Is she kind of my patron in this life?

He had many doubts confusing him. The more he thought more questions he came up with. Even strange doubts started to creep into his mind.

Many people write stories of many characters being transported into other world or reincarnated. Am I such character? Am I figment of someone’s thoughts and imagination? Is this world even real? Is some kind of Author writing me down, depicting me and describing me? (Authors Note: It really is a silly doubt. He, of course is a real person. LOL)

He was in fact convinced over these silly thoughts. He wasn’t at fault for thinking like that, for he had read many such stories. If he had calmed down, he might even have had remembered reading a story Shadow which awfully had the same plot as his now life starting with his death. But thank the gods above for he didn’t remember that particular story.

To calm his nerves down, he looked up into the sky, filled his lungs with air, screeched at top of his voice.

“You damn author, you better write a good story. If you don’t, I will find you and I will kill you.”

As soon as he completed his screeching, he was greeted by an angry looking, obviously big, monkey looking at him.

“You little shit, quiet down.”, and slammed his tightened fist just below Ajay’s ribcage. Knocking air out of him, Ajay was thrown on to trunk of the opposite tree. Slamming with his back on the tree, Ajay fell into the branches below. Breaking many of them, he lastly kissed the earth.
