Chapter 6: Our True World

----------------------------------------

The place where he found himself in was just like the outer space. It spread in all directions, and it was unknown whether it had a limit or not.

Peering through the boundless space, Lin Xian felt somewhat curious and fearful. The suddenness of what had just happened totally shocked him.

[Where am I?]

As this question was raised in his mind, something suddenly caught his eyes. In front of him, there were seven beams of light, which were arranged by its light’s intensity. The beam of light which had the highest intensity was on the left, and the one with the lowest intensity was on the right.

Observing them closely, Lin Xian found out that within these beams of light, different items were floating inside.

But among the seven beams of light, only the two at the right, which had the lowest intensity of light, had the items inside them completely visible.

As for the other five, because of the light’s intensity, only a vague outline of something Lin Xian couldn’t make out of could be seen.

On the two beams of light at the right, an enormous book, which was probably close to a meter tall, and a white envelope, just like those that were used for mails, were calmly floating.

Curious, Lin Xian decided to go nearer, however, a sudden realization dawned upon him.

[W-Where is my body?]

Anxiousness spread all over his mind. Although he had a naturally calm disposition, he still felt panic surge from the bottom of his heart.

But then again, who wouldn’t panic if their body had suddenly disappeared?

“Don’t panic, only your consciousness had entered the ring, but you could easily reform your body with a single thought. However, keep in mind that those you can’t see are things you are incapable of holding, let alone using them.”

As Lin Xian was about to explode from anxiousness, Rashueli’s, that rabbit’s voice, echoed inside his mind.

After hearing those words, Lin Xian somewhat calmed down as he digested what Rashueli had just told him.

[Reform my body…]

With a thought, Lin Xian suddenly found himself standing on his own two feet in an instant. He raised his hands and looked at them intently, before he finally composed his self.

With a breath of relief, he walked over to the envelope, which was inside the weakest beam of light. Observing it closely, Lin Xian was fairly certain that this envelope was really like those which were being used as a mail.

Although mailing had grown less and less popular over the years, Lin Xian still had a fair share of experience with it, mainly with his school sending a mail about his grades every end of the school year.

He lifted his hand and reached for the envelope. Slowly, he opened the envelope, but contrary to his expectations, a letter didn’t come out of it. Instead, a blinding light emerged, causing Lin Xian to see nothing but white light for the next few minutes.

“Ah, it seems that it is truly inevitable”

A familiar voice and a familiar laughter echoed inside Lin Xian’s ears. As he heard this, the blinding light dissipated, and in front of him, a solitary man, who had his back facing Lin Xian, was standing like a mountain.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

The man was tall and his back was broad. Looking at him, Lin Xian felt a chill ran down his spine, as though he was looking at a conqueror who had marched through hundreds of wars and won every single one of them.

Just from his back alone, Lin Xian could only think of two ways to describe the man - a Heavenly General, or perhaps, an Emperor!

The man was wearing pure white robes with a black sash on his waist. His black, straight hair reached to the collar of his robes, and just below it, a word that thoroughly shocked Lin Xian was imprinted.

- Lin -

Seeing this word, Lin Xian’s shock had reached a point where he thought nothing else in the world would shock him even more. However, just as he thought of this, he suddenly realized something important, causing him to think that he had never been so wrong in his life.

That voice and that laugh…

Surely, it came from a person he was most familiar with.

Surely, it came from his only relative whom he had lived his whole life with.

Surely, it was the voice of his father.

The man turned around, and Lin Xian’s expectation had finally hit the jackpot.

Indeed, the person in front of him was his father, Lin Xin.

However, contrary to how his father looked like in his memories, a man wearing simple and casual clothing while working in the city everyday, his father right now seemed strange.

The one before him was showing the vicissitudes of life, seemingly ancient and knowledgeable, as though he had experienced thousands of years of life.

Lin Xian couldn’t fully describe it, but he felt as though his father in his memory and his father right now, although completely identical, were two separate entities.

“Lin Xian, is that you? Hahahaha! You have truly grown alot since the time I prepared this message. Oh, by the way, I am not really Lin Xin. I am just a remnant of your father’s consciousness, and my true self is probably doing his own thing, trying to hide from his pursuers. Hahahaha!”

As his father was speaking, Lin Xian kept his mouth shut. A moment ago, he was filled with an eagerness to voice out something, however, when he heard the words ‘a remnant of your father’s consciousness’, he deliberately stopped himself, deeply pondering about the meaning behind these words.

Since Lin Xian kept silent, Lin Xin just smiled and continued speaking, “I would have never thought my son would grow up just like his mother, calm and composed. Anyways… Oh?”

Suddenly, Lin Xin stopped speaking and raised his head. His face turned sour, and with a voice filled with complicated feelings, he said, “Rashueli… I, no. You don’t need to hear anything I will say right now.”

- Crack! -

The moment he said those words, just above him, an enormous crack appeared, and it appeared as though the entire boundless space was about to collapse at any moment.

But in the next second, the cracks suddenly disappeared, and everything reverted back to normal.

Then, a voice echoed out, “Hmp! I know that once you have finished talking, you can return back to him. Tell Lin Xin, that old food, that I will settle the debts once I have fully recovered.”

As those words reverberated in the boundless space, Lin Xin suddenly sighed. In his eyes, emotions that signified pity, grief and sadness appeared, as though he was recalling one of the worst memories of his life.

After a minute or two of silence, Lin Xian, who kept his mouth shut since his father appeared, stared blankly at the figure of his father.

He once again found himself in a place where he had no idea about what was happening.

Fortunately, Lin Xin finally broke the silence, saying, “Lin Xian, the person whom you should treat well the most in your life should be Rashueli. That aside, I know you are currently confused, completely unknowledgeable of what is happening to you. However, you, opening this message and meeting me here only meant one thing.”

He paused and continued, “You have returned to our true world.”

[Our true world?] Lin Xian couldn’t help but repeat those words in his mind. He thought that one of the greatest hint to the answers in the countless questions in his mind was, perhaps, these three words.

“In the universe, there is an infinite amount of worlds, and these worlds are what we would call as realms. Earth, for example, is one of them, however, it’s only a small and insignificant part of an entire realm. Does it sound confusing? Well, I won’t delve too deep on that topic, because you’re not really capable enough to understand it. Anyhow, all you need to know is that our true world, the Luminous Sky Realm, is one of those infinite worlds that exist in the universe, and you seeing me in this place would only mean that you have finally returned to our true home.” With a smile on his face, Lin Xin spoke of something way too grand for Lin Xian’s mind to comprehend.

Lin Xian, who had his mouth agape, was completely speechless. He had always been thinking that perhaps there were other worlds beside the world he had been living in, but now that he had heard it from his own father, he just felt that it was quite unbelievable.

“If you can’t completely understand what I’m saying, then you don’t need to force yourself. In time, you’ll know more of the secrets behind the universe. Anyways, the reason I prepared this message is because once you arrive in the Luminous Sky Realm, perhaps you would find yourself in a world that is completely different from the world where you have been accustomed to. But fear not, I have already prepared everything, and now, unless there are unforeseen circumstances, the Tribal Chief of the Dark Crow Tribe, Lin Chongwei, had already adopted you in his family. He’s quite eccentric, but he’s a really nice guy, right?”

“Eh?” Question marks seemed to appear in Lin Xian’s eyes as he stared at his father in confusion.

Observing Lin Xian’s expression, Lin Xin furrowed his brows and asked, “You have never seen nor heard anyone named Lin Chongwei?”

Lin Xian nodded.

“You are, at the moment, not in the Dark Crow Tribe?” Lin Xin once again asked.

Lin Xian once again nodded.

Seeing Lin Xian nod twice at both of his questions, Lin Xin’s furrowed brows returned to normal as a sigh escaped his lips. He finally understood what had happened.

“Once we have separated, you suddenly found yourself at the periphery of a forest dyed in red, the Crimson Prairie. Is that correct?

“Yes.” Lin Xian affirmed, causing Lin Xin to heave yet another sigh.
