Chapter 2: The Art of Severing the Heavens

----------------------------------------

“FWAHAHAHAHA! I have returned! Master, you have finally decided to return! It’s now time to crush those damned sects like the insects they are! FWAHAHAHAHA!”

Waking up to a subtle voice that seemed to be filled with both happiness and madness, Lin Xian slowly opened his eyes.

Once both of his eyes were opened, a peculiar scenery of a place which he had no recollections of appeared before him.

Slowly, Lin Xian mustered all of his strength to stand up. While gazing at his surroundings, he became instantly baffled. He even rubbed his eyes twice just so he could confirm that whatever he was seeing was not an illusion.

In front of him, a place resembling a vast and boundless farmland stretched towards the horizons.

Only thing was, the grass that was supposed to be green, was now certainly dyed with the color of red. Actually, from the place where he was, towards the endless horizons his sight could reach, everything was shining with a deep color of red.

From the grass below him, to the leaves of the trees not far away from where he stood, everything was simply… red.

“Where am I?” Lin Xian asked to no one in particular. Confusion filled his mind as he had no idea about where he was nor what was happening.

While he was deep in thought, his eyes suddenly caught a certain something not too far away from where he stood.

It was a creature. A creature about a third of his height with long ears, a fluffy round tail, and furs as white as snow.

This certain creature definitely looked like a rabbit. But somehow, deep inside Lin Xian’s mind, he just couldn’t believe that such a creature was a ‘rabbit’.

Compared to the round body of a rabbit, this creature’s body was thin. Aside from that, on top of its head, two very small and almost unnoticeable horns could be seen protruding. Moreover, this creature was definitely standing on its own two feet.

This was just absurd.

As he looked more at this rabbit-like creature, Lin Xian’s mind instantly thought of a certain cartoon character named B***, except that this rabbit-like creature had horns, and its fur was as white as snow.

As Lin Xian was figuring out what sort of entity the rabbit-like creature before him was, it suddenly turned around. As it did, Lin Xian immediately felt his body quiver in fear as the creature’s blood red eyes met with his.

Its face, its features, it was definitely that of a rabbit. From the structure of its ears, its nose and mouth, to its even whiter belly, Lin Xian knew that this was definitely a rabbit.

In fact, just like that of the rabbits in his memories, this rabbit could also be described with the word ‘adorable’.

If not for the fact that it has horns, blood red eyes that seemed to be more human than animal, and it standing on its own two feet, Lin Xiao would’ve definitely identified it as a rabbit and launched himself in order to pet it.

But of course, this wasn’t really the case. While he had a certain impulse to pet and hug this rather adorable rabbit-like creature, his body was still frozen in fear.

Even with all its cuteness, Lin Xian felt a terrible killing intent oozing out from the body of this rabbit. He felt that this rabbit’s stare alone was more than enough to threaten his life.

Aside from that, its blood red eyed were also emitting a certain emotion, something like rage or bloodlust, that seemed to make Lin Xian’s blood boil in anger.

With this perception of absolute danger, Lin Xian couldn’t help but stand in a daze, unable to do anything.

While Lin Xian was frozen in both shock and fear, to his surprise, the rabbit suddenly opened its mouth and spoke in a language… Lin Xiang could understand.

“Hehe! Master, now that you have returned to this world, whom should we annihilate first? FWAHAHAHA… Eh?”

While the rabbit was in the middle of its laughter, its eyes suddenly bulged as it gazed more deeply towards Lin Xian.

At that moment, all the hair in Lin Xian’s body stood up. How come that such an adorable creature could emit such a terrifying amount of bloodlust?!

After staring at Lin Xian for a few moments, the rabbit suddenly spoke, “Master, did you eat an Eternal Youth Pill? Y-You look like a child… What the hell happened to y-... Eh?!”

As it spoke, the rabbit-like creature’s head looked at its own body. With a flip, something like a shard of glass appeared on its hand, and as it looked at it, its expression suddenly turned grim.

Looking at this rabbit-like creature, Lin Xian felt helpless.

Right now, even if he wanted to, he couldn’t move even a single part of his body. Aside from that, Lin Xian didn’t even have a single idea about where he was, and he also didn’t have any information about why or how he arrived at this place.

“Y-You’re that child?”

While Lin Xian was still dazed by what was happening, the rabbit-like creature once again looked at him and spoke.

But what came out of its mouth made Lin Xian even more confused. [What the hell is this rabbit talking about?]

Suddenly, from one the rabbit’s fingers, a blinding light poured out, making Lin Xian cover his eyes.

1… 2… 3… 5… 10 minutes. It was only after 10 minutes when Lin Xian felt that he could finally open his eyes.

As he opened his eyes, Lin Xian saw that the rabbit was already in front of him, and one of its hands was reaching for his face.

Looking at it, Lin Xian couldn’t help but feel that this rabbit-like creature was expressing a bitter emotion, unsure whether it was grief or misery.

Even with the bloodlust it was emitting, looking at it made Lin Xian’s feel that his heart was breaking, as though he was looking at the embodiment of all tragic stories....

“Lin Xian… so you’re that brat from that. Haaa… Now everything is clear. Forget it. With your strength right now...”

In the next moment, something like a dimension-hole appeared on Lin Xian’s chest, frightening him out of his wits. Then, the rabbit jumped in, but before it completely disappeared, its voice resounded, “Close your eyes and open your mind Good luck… Hahahaha, Master, you have never really given me a chance.”

Lin Xian was stunned as he watched the rabbit slowly disappear into his body, accompanied by the echoes of its grim and desolate voice. After the rabbit vanished completely, the dimension-hole in his chest closed, as if it had never been there at all.

Lin Xian stared at his chest for a while, uncertain about everything that had just happened. Everything had just happened too fast, that before he could even understand even a bit of it, it was already done.

[Just… what the hell happened?]

As this questions appeared in his mind, Lin Xian couldn’t help but sigh.

Thinking back…

“Lin Xian, remember that you are the son of the Heaven Severing Emperor, Lin Xin!”

These voice, these words, where did it come from?

“AHHHHHHHHHH!!!”

Lin Xian suddenly felt an excruciating pain coming from inside his head.

He fell on his knees as both of his arms clutched his head.

Lin Xian felt that something deep inside of his head was trying to burst out, slowly drilling its way towards his forehead..

Seconds… Minutes… Hours… Lin Xian didn’t know how much time passed by. For him, it actually seemed like an eternity.

He cried, he yelled, he begged, he rolled… Lin Xian did everything that he could just to resist the excruciating pain he was subjected to.

At one point, he even thought that he just wanted to fall unconscious or die… It was so great of a pain that perhaps it would even become something that would haunt him for the rest of his life... if he actually survived it.

After an unknown amount of time, finally, it stopped.

“Haaa…. Haaa… Haaa…”

As the excruciating pain gradually disappeared, Lin Xian restlessly panted.

He lied flat on the ground without the strength nor the desire to move. Right now, he just felt so exhausted that he just wanted to sleep and get some rest.

But at that moment, when Lin Xian was about to close his eyes, a sudden realization dawned upon him.

Deep within his mind, memories that he seemed to have forgotten suddenly reappeared.

He remembered that just before he came to this place, he was with his father.

Thinking about it, the words of his father resounded in his head, “Xian’er, I don’t know about the views that you have about this world. But… now that they appeared, earth is not a suitable place for you anymore. You need to return to that place, you need to continue your life there… because that is your true home and it seems like that place is calling for you.”

As the voice of his father continuously reverberated in his mind, questions after questions piled up inside his mind.

“My true home?”

After he voiced out this certain question, Lin Xian suddenly remembered the words of the rabbit before it vanished into thin air.

“Close my eyes and open my mind… there I’ll find answers.”

Even with his body being as weak it was right now, Lin Xian’s thirst for the answers to the questions that appeared inside his mind overwhelmed him.

With but a single thought, Lin Xian closed his eyes and soon, he fell unconscious as a dim reddish light covered his body.

In the next moment, Lin Xian suddenly found himself sitting… somewhere. Actually, he just couldn’t comprehend where he currently was since everything around him was just plain black.

It was black, but it wasn’t definitely darkness. Looking at his surroundings, Lin Xian felt like he was sitting in the middle of space.

Just like a planet in the milky way, Lin Xian felt like he was just there, floating unknowingly in the middle of nowhere.

“Xian’er…”

Suddenly, a familiar voice happened to enter his ears.

Hearing this voice, Lin Xian couldn’t help but search for it. That voice and the way it called him, it was definitely his father’s.

After seconds of searching, Lin Xian realized that searching for the voice was futile. In the place where he currently was, there was only him and nothing else.

Realizing this, Lin Xian couldn’t help but mutter, “Father… just what is happening?”

- Ping! -

A ringing sound echoed out, and in the next moment, a floating book appeared in front of Lin Xian.

Written on its cover…

“The Art of Severing the Heavens”
