Still on semi-hiatus...I had planned to post some artwork but the tools for posting artwork were a little more difficult than I had anticipated, at least with the time I had given myself to post this.
Suffice to say, if you want to see Emiliano Urich's concept art for the series, you can get it on the paid tier of Patreon.
Below is the first newsletter I posted on Patreon - you can sign up as a free member if you want more!
Oh, and I am working on another, unrelated web fiction. I'm planning to release it on Royal Road later in the year. More details to follow.
What I’m Doing
Passports. Lots of passports.
As I’ve mentioned, I work as a librarian, and part of those duties include processing passports. This might strike some as strange, but libraries have stretched to fit a variety of roles over time. And, for me, one of those roles is passport acceptance agent.
Anyway, passports are taking up a lot of mental bandwidth these days at work. There’s a lot of them, mostly with people traveling for spring break, summer vacation and presumably other reasons.
Anyway, that’s how I’m spending most of my work days.
What I’m Working On
I’ve got three freelance writing jobs coming up, just in time for tax season.
I have an editing job that will hopefully start very soon. I’m hoping to share more on that soon.
The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
I also have at least one ghostwriting job lined up and another in negotiations. Since these are ghostwriting jobs, they are pretty hush-hush so I probably won’t talk much about them, by virtue of the contracts involved. I mainly just wanted to share how things are going.
What I’m Writing
Currently, I’m working on finishing up Isekai Override which is currently on its fifth chapter. I started it for the Royal Road Community Magazine Contest, and I think I’ve finally figured out how it fits in.
Tentatively, I’m going to mark the fiction as complete on Royal Road as of Chapter Seven.
After that, I will be writing follow-up short stories in the world of Isekai Override. There are a few sword & sorcery magazines I’ve wanted to write for, and this seems like a perfect opportunity. We’ll see where it goes from there. I’ll keep you posted on any sales.
Beyond that, I also have a Weird West story I’m working on.
And I just received word I had another short story long-listed for an anthology I submitted to a few months ago. Fingers crossed it makes it in.
Where’s Book One of Seven Steps To Becoming a Superhero?
Currently, not much is happening with the KU release of Super-School Is For Suckers. I’m lining up a couple beta readers, and I’m also probably going to hire a proof-reader to go through the manuscript with a fine-tooth comb in the next few months. I’m currently shooting for a late summer release.
What Am I Reading?
As part of my librarian duties, I lead two book clubs. One is largely based around PBS’ The Great American Read, and the other typically a smattering of general and historical fiction. I also participate in a fantasy book club on top of that.
So here’s what’s on the agenda:
Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
Fellowship Point by Alice Elliot Dark
Book of Doors by Gareth Brown
Beyond that, I’m planning to hopefully squeeze in some non-fiction before the month is over. As a huge American Werewolf in London fan, I’d like to read Griffin Dunne’s The Friday Afternoon Club: A Family Memoir, and as a huge Van Halen fan, I’d also like to read Alex Van Halen’s new memoir, Brothers.
I’m also reading my way through some of the Royal Road web fiction that caught my eye. Right now I’m reading through Vampire Core by Razzmatazz, which is awesome by the way.
That's all for this month!
