I want to preface this by saying, when I got this idea, I had very little idea what web fiction was. I didn’t even know what Royal Road was. I slowly pieced it together and did research on how to tell this storyline as a serialized fiction…and it was a learning experience.
Overall, a very enjoyable one…but a learning experience nonetheless.
In hindsight, I realized my expectations were wildly and naively unrealistic.
I work as a part-time librarian/part-time freelance writer. Lately, I’ve been focusing heavily on Seven Steps on Becoming a Superhero…but I really need to get back to my freelancing, and with several ghostwriting projects on the horizon, I felt this is probably the best time to step away from the web fiction to focus on those projects. Unfortunately, I’m not sure how long it will take.
Which is made all the more bittersweet since Seven Steps To Becoming a Superhero has just made it near the top of the Mystery section of Rising Stars.
So here’s some good news -
* I am going to publish the first volume of Seven Steps to Becoming a Superhero on KU, tentatively called Super-School Is For Suckers. I’m planning to have it released sometime this summer, with a brand-new prologue and short story included, called Rule Zero; Sidekicks Don’t Count. These plans are all subject to change. I’ll keep you posted on these plans in my newsletter, speaking of which…
* I’m going to start a newsletter for all Patreon subscribers (paying or non-paying). This will include news of my upcoming release (I should have at least two releases this year, maybe more), how the KU release is coming and generally what I’m up to. I’m planning to release it once or twice a month to avoid clogging the spam filters.
* If you haven’t already, check out my other web fiction Isekai Override. It’s more an experiment I’ve been running for the Royal Road Community Magazine Contest. I’ve been updating about a chapter a week. When it hits ten chapters, I’ll see if there’s a demand for it and go from there. Check it out if you haven’t already.
* I’ll keep my Patreon up and running. I’m hoping to use any income generated there towards the KU release. For now, you can read the first 15 chapters of the next volume, Never Trust a Villain. I’ll also plan on scheduling some monthly Q&As to keep up the interest.
I think that wraps up the announcement part. If you’re able to, sign up for the Patreon. Every little bit helps, and enough support means I can stop ghostwriting and devote more time to Seven Steps to Becoming a Superhero. Even signing up for the free membership on Patreon will help me get the word out.
The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.
Thanks to everyone who has become a Patreon supporter, followed me on Royal Road or participated in an ad swap or review swap. For a first-timer, I’d really lucked out with some incredible people helping me along the way.
This is not the end. Seven Steps to Becoming a Superhero will return…one way or the other…
