Chapter 3: The Reason

Chapter 3: The Reason

“Don't go!” I yelled. My hand shot out to reach for the light only to find nothing there. As my eyes refocused, I notice I was in a room not the road. It looked to be the nurse's office. As there were more beds like the one I was in. A single pillow, and a few white sheet to each bed.

A cool breeze came in form a large window. I was hotter than expected as the wind cooled me off. As it hit me, I realized I was covered in my own sweat and tears were still falling from my eyes. I tried my best to rid them from my face.

“I see sleeping beauty awakens.” said a voice. I looked over to see Rick standing in the door.tall would be an understatement for his height. His short blonde hair would've been fine, but with the ends being brown, his delinquent look only grew stronger.

As far as looks went, he was okay. His green eyes spoke of alertness and calm while his facial features told a different tale. With a strong jaw, and the scar on his cheek only made him look more so. Along with two silver rings in each ear, for what reason he would never tell, I looked downright intimidating.

Even thru his questionable choice of clothing, I could tell he was in shape. We fought every day over dumb things, so I knew best. He would use his fist ever time, I was little bit ahead in one of our dumb conversations.

He wore a black t-shirt with a skull in the middle. He wore a black leather jacket over the shirt and had baggy black jeans. A short chain ran from his right side to the front of his pants. Whether or not I like it, this delinquent is my best friend.

“Coming from the dropout delinquent that’s a compliment,” I said with a smirk. We always start with light jabs at each other.

“You little...” Rick dashed over to my bed. His hand reaching out grabbing my head. He pulled me toward him in a headlock. Taking the extra effort of adding pressure cut off my air.

“Take it back!” Rick yelled. I pushed my hands against his face to let go. We were both smiling and laughing.

“I would appreciate you not strangle my patient, Rick.” A tall man with dark skin wearing a white lab coat walked in.. He had sleek bushy black hair. His  five o'clock shadow made him look rough. Two scars traced his face. It was his eyes that were the strangest of all. One blue while the other was yellow. It was like looking at the ocean then the sun. His voice was deep yet he held a strange sense. He walked over to us until he was facing us down.

“So will you let go now?” He asked calmly. Rick paralyzed and shocked by the man, let go and stood across from me.

“Hello Dynames. My name is Michael Cross.” He then bowed his head to me. I blushed and felt unconformable. I waved my hands telling him to raise his head. I was never good with people bowing to me.

From today on I will be your new seer.

“What do you mean new seer? What happened to Frank?” I asked. For some reason since I got here I had someone watching called a seer.

“ He was transferred to a different spot. I am his replacement. I will now be in control of your supervision and personal safety.

“Of course, I was just added, so the car accident will be all on you.” A smirk lit his mouth as the memory came back to me. “I see you remember why you're in a nurse’s office. Now that introductions are done I shall take my leave.”

“Wait, aren’t you going to check my wounds? I said a little worried. He smiled a bit and turned back toward me.

“I already have. You have a bruised rib and some minor scratches. All the wounds will heal in no time. Just rest for now and you will be all right.”

“How do you know?!” I was unsettled by this. This man had not even come into physical contact with me. Yet, he gave a perfect condition rate of me.

“I used my magic to check your vitals and muscle tissue. I possess the magic of the Leguar. It is a creature that can understand the condition of the target in less than a second. It can also see how the things affect the lye lines. It is the most in tuned with the world itself. I also can tell by your influence and presence in the lye lines.

With that, he walked out of the room. Leaving feelings of mystery and the desire to know more. I was baffled and intrigued by this man. Whoever this guy is? He is fascinating. All my thoughts raced towards one end, but it faded as the class bell rang filling both of us with a sense of time. I quickly found my cloths, and Rick and I rushed out to be 3rd-period class.

Michael

Michael walked out of the room. Many thoughts rushed in his brain that were trying to figure out the boy. Was this kid really it or was he just some brat. His thoughts made him angry. Which drove a fist in the wall next to him. It startled severely students taking their time to get to class. Cross, with a calmer expression then he really felt, urged the student on to class.

Here, he was risking everything to help this kid. Wondering whether or not it was worth it was all he could think about,. As his mind almost betrayed him, the familiar feeling filled him. Memory, one that filled him with passion and the desire to see it again. He made up his mind.

The bell rang, the boy came running out of the room. I see he takes advice well. Thought Michael. He was still bothered by his rate of healing. He was hit by a speeding car, yet his body had no serious injuries. Most of the scratches had already healed and no scar showed on him.

He walked down the narrow hallway. It took many strange turns to reach the particular room. He stood there watching and looking around. He placed his hand on the knob focusing his magic there. Opening the door relieving a dark room.Moving  straight toward the middle of the darkness. Once there the door slammed behind him. It startled him making his pulse race. I will never get used to that. He collected his thoughts and focused on the task at hand.

Just as he did three large rings surrounded him. They grew to fill the area of the room and then back to normal. After the scanning had been done, they reached far enough out then stopped. Soon 12 figures sitting in chairs filled the outside of the circle. After every last one had materialized, they began the meeting. The council of twelve, they were among the oldest and most influential humans in the world.

“So Mr. Cross.....How goes the watching? Said the man closest to the outside the circle. Many of the other members nodded in agreement. They waited for his answer, like a dog waiting for their meal. He had to lie and had more truth to disguise it.

“The boy seems to be normal and has had no contact with the others. I have detected no interference from the others. The boy’s memories still are under lock and key. His powers have yet to return, only his healing abilities remain intact.” After saying all that, I felt the scanning on me. Their eyes prying into my mind to see the truth. I had set up many walls to my mind just in case.

One of the shadows stood up and shouted “We have detected a power surge in the boy's dreams. Many reacted to this and started to discuss among them. Hand from the front silenced the rest. Those two were the ones to respect here.

“It has come to our attention, theses small power rushes. We believe the barriers have begun to weaken. We cannot allow that boy to regain his status. He is too much of a threat.” A burning hate filled my chest. These people just fear his power. He realized it was his turn and tried his best to compose himself.

“I understand your concern, but the boy knows next to nothing about us or the outside world. He is oblivious to us as a child in a cage.”

“Nevertheless, we will strengthen the barriers tomorrow and ensure such.” The council nodded in agreement. “We can't have that monster running amuck again.”

He had enough of this talk and decide now is the time.He raised his hand for silence. The chatter from the council ended. Cross thought carefully and strengthened his resolve. For what happens next is up to fate.

“I am afraid I can’t allow that action to come to fruition.” I let the smile fill my face. “I shall bear the burden of the decision and meet my fate. The boy shall awaken by my hands and begin his life once more. I will make him face his past and move forward!”

His blood was hot on his face. Heart racing and adrenaline pumping. The council was less than thrilled by this. Many went to shock and gasped at the words. They became angry, chains shot from their hands to restrain him. With a flick of his hand light to fill the room. The chains stopped and began to vanish.

“I'm sorry to say but you can no longer interfere here. I have a barrier keeping you all out. I alone will face the boy.” With that he bowed with one arm crossing his chest.

“Why are you doing this, Cross?” They all said. “For six years we have kept him under wraps. He is the greatest threat to our power and the fate of humanity!” Rage filled him. Like a volcano about to erupt, He could no longer hold it back.

“THAT'S PRECISELY WHY I AM FREEING HIM! I COULDN’T CARE LESS ABOUT HUMANITY!” he regained control of his voice and calmed down a little.  Meeting all the confused and rage filled stares.

“Unlike you pathetic weaklings, who still cling to the laws of humans, I have accepted the new world and will embrace it with that boy. You fools have no right to defend just humanity from the tragic fate”.

“Do you not understand that this is treason against your own race?!” The leaders said. “You will be executed and at best, hated by all.”

“No Just by fools. YOU twelve alone treat him as a threat and the rest of the species like they're inferior. Many accept the world as it is, yet you can't let go of it. I will sever you from your power over him and cause the new world to TRULY AWAKEN! I will break the seals on him and send the enemy. The actual one a message”. Silencing those who would disagree. With that, the room was filled with silence and remained so for very long. The council did nothing but revel in the news from their own agent.

“As of now…” He allowed a breath. “...This school is off limits to you monsters!”

“You Fool!!” They all yelled. With a simple sideswept of his hand, he banished all the council in one movement.

The meeting had ended. Cross was alone in the cold room with nothing but his thoughts and the feelings of what he had done. Yet even with all the emotions and sadness, a big smile erupted on his face. Little did he know that day would only get far worse for the world and everyone. The events followed his decision would wound many and leave him with many more doubts. The hope of the world would be tested.
