Chapter 1: Reborn
"Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Yale, a beautiful baby boy," the nurse said.
It was weird being born again, coming back into the light as a newborn. I wasn't able to see much, though. But it felt like I could hear everything. I understood the language, which is always a good sign.
I was finally able to open my weak eyes, and an array of colors greeted me. It felt good to look at the world through the lens of a child. I looked around, and I was in the arms of what seemed to be a nurse or doctor. She was an older-looking woman. I am assuming she's in her late 40's early 50's. She handed me out to another woman, who appeared to be my mother. I couldn't quite tell since my eyes were still a little blurry. But her voice was soft and calming. I felt drowsy at the sound of her voice. The best way I could describe her is; she has long flowing black curly hair that reaches her waist, dark deep brown eyes with skin the color of desert sand. She had a beautiful smile nevertheless; she seemed loving.
I think she would be a great second mother. Or the first mother, I guess I don't know anyways.
I scanned my little head around the room and saw a very tall man. I presumed. This man was my father, judging by his teary eyes and goofy smile. He leaned in closer and gave me the most intense stare. The look he carried with him was awe and wonder. I wonder if every parent's eyes lit up with joy at the sight of their baby being born.
Studying my assumed father's appearance, he had short black hair with a blonde patch on the front of his head.
He had a beard, although it wasn't connecting, and bright green eyes. He was a bigger-built man, probably 220 Lbs at least. He also had sand-colored skin.
"Have you finally decided on a name, hun?" Said, my father
My mother looked down towards me and gave me the sweetest look. "His name will be Baron," my mother said.
At first, the name Baron didn't seem like it would fit me. But at this point, my hands were tied. And Baron was my new name.
The following year was interesting, to say the least. Adjusting to my new body was demanding. I had no motor skills whatsoever, was fragile, and I had learned that the hard way. Let's say trying to walk with a set of Bambi's legs is more of a challenge than you'd think, falling over and over, smacking your infant body off the floor like falling onto your bed after a long day's work. But soon enough, I could say a few sentences here and there, but nothing out of the range of a one-year-old child.
Being one year old again was a blessing in disguise.
On the one hand, I couldn't do as I wanted to when walking and talking. I knew it would come with time. On the other hand, in my parent's eyes, I was God's gift to the world. I got food at will, attention 24/7, I could get used to this.
My mother would often take me into the town square once a week. It was like the farmer's markets I used to go to as a kid in my old life. Sweet smells of perfumes and colognes danced through the air into my nostrils. There were all kinds of delicious tasting foods, with music and dancing. It was indeed a sight to see. The town square was way more packed than usual today. Many people were wearing what looked to be royal garbs. They were costumes, perhaps. I tried to get a better look at the people in the dresses, but being attached to my mother's momma bear death grip, I couldn't turn around and see who they were.
My mother and I headed home after buying some groceries for dinner. Potato soup was the usual. I usually would refuse potato soup, simply because I was never the biggest fan of potatoes, but the way mother made that soup. Man, oh man, I could eat that stuff for days.
As we walked down the last stretch of path, we could see my father in the distance. He was standing with two strangers that had looked unfamiliar. I didn't know what to think at first, whether to be scared or be calm. I nuzzled my little soft head into my mother's chest, grabbing her with my tiny arms. She squeezed my back and patted my back. "It's okay, Baron, there's nothing to be afraid of," she said as she continued to calm me. I let out a burp which made me feel less bloated.
We had finally approached our home. The two strangers standing before my father were knights of some sort. What kind of place is this? Must be ancient times or something, I thought to myself. The first knight was wearing all black armor, and he stood out amongst the two. He had a rugged look to him that could shake a man's core, but not me, though. he had yellow skin and looked like a beast of some sort, but his helmet was blocking his face. I couldn't get a good look at him. I've seen many pretty scary things in my day as General, but this black knight looked menacingly cool. However, the other knight was wearing all white armor. Something about the white knight had me in a deep trance. I could see her white knight armor glimmering in the night sky, kissing the moon and stars.
Stolen novel; please report.
The white knight had turned to me, noticing my little eyes staring her down.
"What do we have here? A newborn baby, how cute". The white knight said with a mocking tone.
My father quickly reached for his blade attached to his hip, but in that exact moment, the black knight grabbed my father's wrist and clutched it tight. I could feel the dominating presence of the black knight surrounding the entire area. Everything, even the wind, had stood still.
My mother had reached for my father's arm notching him to calm down and back off the knight.
My mother seemed always to have a leveled head in times like this. She knew the right thing to do or say, always. After my father removed his hand from his blade, the black knight let go. You could see the marks on my father's wrist, where the knight had been holding him. His wrist then turned into a deep purple. He had broken his hand, was my first thought. My father took it like a champ tho, not an ounce of fear was in his body. Keeping his eyes focused on the black knight.
The white knight turned towards my mother and took a few steps towards her. “Ahh Lilila…long time no see. I see you have yourself a new child. Interesting you would have a child knowing your situation", said the white knight.
What does she mean when she says "your situation"? was my mother not allowed to have children?
I could feel the shift in the air change. The temperature had dropped a little bit.
You know a mothers' overprotective instinct she has when someone may pose a threat to their child. This factor was now in play.
I could feel my mother's heart beating faster and faster.
Bum bum bum bum
I clinched her tighter to my mother's body, trying to calm her possibly. I looked up at my mother, and something had changed about her. I began to cry.
"Ramus come and take your son, please," said Lilla
My father quickly rushed to her side, picking me up out of her arms. Being in my father's arms made me feel somewhat empowered.
"Do you really wanna do this now, Lili? In front of your son. I mean, you'll die faster than the blink of an eye", said the white knight as she laughed and gave a cocky wink at my mother. The white knight had clutched her sword, drawing it slowly walking towards my mother.
My mother, on the other hand, began to change in appearance. Her eyes were now a light grey. Then her hair went from a deep dark black to a Snow White color. She looked powerful and beautiful. But also scary seeing my known-to-be kind, loving mother turn into a menace.
Huge black clouds began to form above in the night sky. Thunder and lighting fought in the sky, clashing together, causing chaos in the heavens. My mother spoke, "Prepare yourself, Camilla."
Suddenly a blue aura emitted from her. My mother chanted the words "Divi-" but the Black knight intervened before she could finish.
"Camilla! It's time to go now", said the black knight.
"Go listen to your master… knight", Lillia said.
Camilla quickly retreated.
"C'mon, Dragus, I want to teach this bitch a lesson," said Camilla.
"This is not the time Camilla, you will have your chance…in time", said Dragus.
Camilla turned around to say her final words, which shook my core, words no mother should hear.
"Lillia Yale, I vow to you upon the king's honor that I will kill your son. I hope there will never be a day you go about not thinking of the fact that I will be waiting in the bushes like a wolf, stalking sheep. I will stop at nothing to kill that boy. And seeing your face, after killing him will give me the most satisfaction", said Camilla.
Tears fell on my mother's face, yet her expression remained strong. The two knights walked away into the knight. My mother remained where she stood until she could no longer see them anymore. My mother turned to my father and me, and she collapsed onto the dirt floor.
"Lillia," my father shouted. I began to cry as my father rushed over to his wife. He picked my mother up off the floor while holding me and brought her inside. My father quickly put me on the ground next to my mother on the couch and attended to her.
Father walked into a room down the hall and grabbed a book. He sat down next to me on the floor. He held his hand over my mother and began to read from the book.
"Binding rose," said Ramus.
Vines started to grow and wrap around my mother's body. Then the most beautiful roses bloomed. They were a deep ruby red. They had a hypnotic look at them as well.
"C'mon, Baron, it's time for bed." said my father. He scooped me up off the living room floor, tossing me in the air and landing back into his big arms. Father got me fed, changed, and ready for bed.
Since I could not yet control my bowels, I left a little surprise in my diaper. Sorry, not sorry.
He walked me to my room and laid me down to bed. "Goodnight, Baron, I love you, son," he said as he shut the door. That warmed my heart. I haven't heard someone tell me they love me in a long time. In my first life, I could never find love. Although I tried, it was no luck. My job working in the military didn't help either, with the fact I was always traveling.
Baron soon nodded off, thinking about his older self. Meanwhile, Ramus waited all night for Lillia to awake. Not too long after waiting, Lillia had awoken.
"Lilli, you're awake. Are you okay?" Ramus said, leaning in toward Lillia giving her a big hug.
"Yes, I'm fine. Thank you, love. I over-exerted myself there," said Lillia.
Lillia had sat up now and began to cry uncontrollably. Ramus couldn't find the words to comfort her. He only embraced her pain with love, holding Lillia in his arms.
"We have to find a safer place for Baron," Lillia said, sniffling in between words.
" I could ask Alexzandria to look over him if the time comes to that, but for now, we just have to stay low and keep up good spirits," said Ramus.
He couldn't tell Lillia not to worry after Camilla's Vow. He knew that when a Knight vows to something, Fate is bound until that vow is fulfilled. But Lillia didn't need the truth of the situation at this time.
Ramus brought Lillia to bed, and they both passed out.
