Recap

Domenic began his story aboard the whaling ship Essential, though after returning to port he didn’t stick around with the crew long. After making his goodbyes to his dearly loved – though seldom visited – single mother, Domenic took on a new position aboard the vessel Wind Runner. There we see Domenic in his element, sailing the sea and teaching young Redmund what the lad needs to know. We also meet Hali, a spy who is establishing a sailing persona and monitoring the princess – who is the real reason for the voyage.

Unfortunatly Nilfheim, their sworn enemy, has hired the pirate mercenary Captain Jack to capture the princess and the cargo of the Wind Runner. Jack succeeds, killing most of the Wind Runner’s crew. Domenic sees the princess and Hali into a lifeboat in bid to escape, but stays behind to distract the pirates. His stalling tactics give the princess time to escape, but Domenic also slays Redmund by mistake before being captured.

Domenic is not Jack’s prisoner for long, soon being weighted down and sent to the bottom of the sea. There, rather than drowning in the abyss, he encounters Davy Jones. It seems that the legend of the sea has had his eye on Domenic.

Domenic makes a deal with Jones. At first glance the deal is everything Domenic could have ever wanted, and he makes his way to Tulisang where he explores his new abilities and trains his awakened magic with the wizard Marcus Renshaw.

However, Domenic is tracked down by a task force set on eliminating him before he becomes a greater threat. As he flees he discovers that the father that he never met is somehow connected with the task force hunting him down, though he slips away aboard a slave ship, the Consort. There he has his perceptions on slavery changed, as it has become something that dehumanizes and abuses it victims. Though he butts heads with Captain Burdette, he does not expose his abilities or kill anyone, even saving the crew from attacking sirens.

Making enemies out of the sirens turned out to have repercussions, as they retuned and attacked when the ship was vulnerable, using their charmed victims to capsize the ship just before a heavy storm. Refusing to allow his crewmates to die, he offers everyone the chance to become his cursed crewmen, and claims the ship as the Death’s Consort.

No sooner has he finally gotten his hands on his own ship than his master Davy Jones appears. And Jones isn’t exactly satisfied with Domenic’s performance …
