Epilogue: The Purging

Epilogue: The Purging

There was once a world, free from the oppression of Fate, free from the strings that now run our lives. The people, mortal or immortal, Cultivators or not, were free.

Free to loot, pillage and kill, or free to love, heal, and care. We touched the energies we wanted, and used them to create lives we deserved. The River of Souls wasn’t twisted yet, but a world that those who fell accepted as another journey to be undertaken.

And then, they came from beyond the stars, splitting the world in two. The most powerful welcomed them with open arms, with interest in both their lives and in the future. Yet the Visitors broke the freedom the ones in power provided and created their own regime.

They split the world into two and razed the weaker one to the ground, leaving just a few million mortals alive to repopulate the world. They forced the weak into chains of their own making, abandoning and banning the energies that made this world exist. Instead they forced the survivors to partake in their own energy, that which they called Heavenly.

The named themselves Gods and rose upon their thrones to govern one world. In the destroyed world, they challenged the survivors to grow powerful enough to break the void and travel to the world they deemed “higher.” The mortals didn’t know any better and strove, and worked, and populated the world.

Stolen novel; please report.

Many grew powerful enough to reach the “Heavens” while others wasted their lives reaching for a false dream. They became slaves, chained by strings they don’t even believe exist, striving to climb a ladder that never ends.

A million years passed, and the lesser world had not just regained order, but created an entirely new world, one that would’ve been unrecognizable to those that had existed before.

And yet, without rhyme or reason, exactly one million years from the day in which they first razed the lesser world to the ground, our so called Gods decided to do so again, this time in the form of agents from another world they called demons.

Citing an eternal war in the higher world, they sent their demons to the lower world and inch by inch, razed it to the ground once again.

And the survivors, they “saved” and once again followed the process which they’d used to originally name themselves divine. And over the course of the next one million years, the world changed, and grew, and created. And once again, exactly one million years later, the world they deemed lower was razed to the ground.

We are in the seventh cycle of their reign, seven million long years in which every single being on both worlds is oppressed without even knowing it.

And that which they call the Purge arrives once again. The demons stir in the lower world and the life of every single mortal is once again threatened.

It is the Purging, and no Soul is safe.
