He looked it over, it still looked pretty basic, but he had accumulated a lot of essence points, and even his specialization points were getting up there. Perhaps it was time to spend a few more of them. He pulled up the screen for ‘basic enchanting’.

Ethan looked it over and nodded to himself, ‘’I just need to put 3 points into reaching level 10. That will take me from apprentice to practitioner, which will likely come with some kind of bonus.’’ He put the 3 specializations points into basic enchanting, feeling something move within him.

Ethan reclined in the bath, the sensation of his newfound skill coursing through him. Without hesitation, he activated it, honing his senses to the subtle energies permeating the space.

A delicate tingling danced across his skin as he surveyed the bathhouse. To his amazement, he could visually perceive the physical well-being of those around him. Each person emitted a shimmering glow, revealing their vitality. The aura's brightness and intensity varied, indicating their overall health, ranging from vibrant and robust to subdued and weakened.

His vision now possessed an additional layer of perception. Translucent threads of energy crisscrossed the room, connecting objects, people, and the surrounding space. These threads pulsed with varying strength, indicating the potency of the energies imbued within.

His ears detected the gentle hum of enchanted energies, each with its distinct signature. Lingering traces of magical enchantments revealed their strength and intricacy. Notably, a large stone at the bottom of the bath glowed brightly with energy.

Curiosity got the best of him, and he touched the stone with his foot. He felt a pulsing presence within it, unlike anything he had encountered before. The energy felt elemental and primal, it felt like fire to be specific, but in a unique and unfamiliar way. The stone wasn't ablaze, but it seemed infused with the essence of fire and heat. He wasn’t sure how he knew that, but it felt instinctual, the skill telling him what he was sensing.

This new phenomenon baffled him, highlighting the vastness of this magical world beyond what he could have imagined. Science had its boundaries, but in a realm of magic, those limits began to crumble in his mind. His heart raced with excitement as he studied the rock intently through his heightened senses.

As a scientist at heart, Ethan's mind yearned to unravel the mysteries of the enchantment. He meticulously scrutinized the stone, attempting to dissect and comprehend its inner workings. However, the more he explored, the more enigmatic it became.

Frustration mingled with the excitement within him. The stone's enchantment defied scientific explanation, evoking a sense of wonder at its primal nature. It was a reminder that certain phenomena transcended empirical knowledge. That perhaps science could not explain everything, which in turn opened up completely new things to learn for him.

Despite his determination, Ethan eventually acknowledged the limitations of his understanding. He sighed, "I really need to get into the library; there has to be answers there." Slowly rising from the bath, he felt a bit dizzy from the prolonged warmth. He picked up his robe and made his way to the dressing area.

After wiping down and donning the work clothes provided by Adelaide, he returned to the shop.

Adelaide smiled at him as he came in, and took his dirty robe from him. There were a few customers in the shop, and they looked at him in interest. As he went to the workshop, he heard them asking questions about him to Adelaide, but he ignored that. He had work to do, and he felt ready to get it going.

First off, he needed to figure out the crystal. Basically he wanted to create a battery, one he could charge with essence. He was unsure how much essence the magnetism enchantments would drain, but that was a worry for after.

He sat down in a comfortable chair, closed his eyes and thought. He contemplated the inner workings of a modern battery. He envisioned the intricate chemistry at play, the flow of electrons, and the transfer of energy. It fascinated him how a tiny device could store and release power on demand.

He mused over the battery's composition, with its positive and negative electrodes immersed in an electrolyte solution. The movement of ions back and forth between the electrodes during charging and discharging processes. It was a delicate balance of chemical reactions, electrons, and voltage.

He imagined the enchantment, the innate properties of a battery serving as the foundation. Within his mind, he meticulously designed the ethereal pathways, drawing upon his understanding of energy flow and conductivity, but he felt a strange resistance.

He realized that the similarities between electricity and essence were clear, but that there were important differences. While a conventional battery followed well-established physical principles, the essence he was dealing with had its own elusive nature. It wasn't just a matter of understanding the flow of electrons; he needed to comprehend essence moved.

He had sensed that essence was not a passive entity. It almost had its own will, its own rhythm. It had always felt wild to him, but until now it had not conformed to his will. As he attempted to force it, It slipped through his grasp, evading his control.

He sat back with a gasp, his head hurt, and felt a strain like never before. Forcing it clearly wouldn’t work, but how could he bend it to his will without restraining it? How could he create a charging mechanism that resonated with the essence's intrinsic nature?

He took a deep breath and thought about it calmly, perhaps Instead of trying to impose structure, he should try to adapt to its ever-changing currents.

With renewed determination, he adjusted his thinking. He focused on a dynamic charging mechanism that mirrored the essence's ebb and flow. Foregoing rigid structure, It was now more a fluid interaction, a partnership with the essence itself.

In his mind he compared it to how a battery's ions moved back and forth during charging and discharging. But in this case, it wasn't ions, but the essence that flowed in and out of the enchantment. The structure of the enchantment acted like a conduit, gently guiding the essence as it moved it back and forth.

This dynamic charging process wasn't without its challenges. Ensuring a balance between the essence's strangely volatile nature, and the desired flow of energy into the enchantment was a delicate act. The essence could be unpredictable, and Ethan had to learn to adapt to its nuances.

Each time the essence moved, he needed to attune himself to the essence's current state. It required extreme patience, and an almost intuitive understanding of the essence's ever-changing nature. Ethan was not used to thinking in this way, he usually had clear answers and knowledge, and he felt like his world view was slowly crumbling. Walls in his mind felt like they were beginning to crack, and he sensed something more beyond it.

After countless iterations and endless adjustments, he finally achieved a breakthrough. His enchantment seemed to resonate with the essence, and was like finding the perfect rhythm in a symphony, that moment of perfection.

As the notification finally came, Ethan felt an overwhelming sense of accomplishment. He felt like he had taken a huge leap forward, that his understanding had deepened. He felt dizzy and wiped his running nose, only for his hand to come away stained with blood. He looked at the blood for a few moments, then he collapsed.

He wasn’t out for long, but he had fallen to the floor and felt like he had taken a beating. His head hurt, his vision was a little blurry, but he determinedly pulled up the notification.

Ethan sat up gaped at the cost of the enchantment, and he wanted to kick something. ‘’Why the hell is it so expensive!? Why..’’ He realized that the room was spinning, and clutched the table leg next to him.

After a little while he blinked, and he began to feel a little better, so he stopped to think about it for a bit. This enchant.. Was it too high level for him perhaps? Was that why it had proved so difficult, not to mention his current physical state. Perhaps it was simply a very powerful enchant. He had intrinsic knowledge of the enchant, and for a few moments he inspected it in his mind.

It worked like a battery, but something was different, shockingly so. This enchant.. It would charge itself over time if left alone. It would take time, but it essentially meant an endless supply of energy for whatever device it was installed into.

Ethan’s heart raced, ‘’That is not what I was planning.. Not what.. Did I think of a charging battery? The concept of charging.. It went into the enchant. If that is the case though, is this unique or have others discovered this!?’’

Ethan stood and began to pace frantically ignoring his headache, all the while mumbling to himself, ‘’if this is unique.. It could change everything. It is not very efficient true, but make enough of them, and I could power any tool I needed to without ever using my own essence..’’

He frowned, should he actually use it on the grinding device? It carried certain risks, Adelaide seemed decent enough, but If information of an enchant like this came out though, and it is actually unique.. It would have consequences at the very least.

Ethan pondered it for a long time, but eventually decided to go ahead with it. In the end he was too excited to not do so, what kind of scientist would he be, if he did not actually try out his new creation!

He carved the rune into the crystal, and began the process of pouring essence into the crystal. He was careful, and it took at least an hour of him sitting very still, and with his mind extremely focused on the task. He sensed that any distraction could be disastrous, so he allowed none.

Finally the spell finished and he felt the massive loss of energy. He sighed and collapsed into a chair, ‘’man.. I could sleep a week..’’

Just as he groaned that to himself, Adelaide walked into the room, and with a very annoyed looking Calandra in tow.
