Episode Fourteen

The streets of Scav Town were a mix of paved concrete and gravel. The roads themselves were wide enough to allow half a dozen pedestrians to easily traverse it with ample personal space. On all sides of the roadways were concrete buildings of assorted size and nature. Those which were constructed along the peripheral of the town were typically of a industrial application. Foundries, salvagries, a few munitions plants and more. As the four scavs ascended a number of stairs, Bokep found that the “ground level” and the adjoining floors they had first arrived on what somewhat unique in its architecture. Whereas the first several levels were mostly concrete with a more open areas, the upper levels were more makeshift with criss crossing metal catwalks as opposed to the structurally sound bridges of the initial floors.

As they continued on their way, the small squad began to descend once again and found themselves in a much more decorated zone. Banners of the three Super-States hung along different streets as Bokep saw himself in the middle of what was like the city square. In this case it was more like a circle. There were Three main roadways in and out of it and a statue in the middle of what appeared to be a macro-suit adorned with all manner of religious items. Candles burnt all around it, filling the otherwise stale air with a moderately pleasant scent in incense and bunt wax.

Continuing his sight seeing, Bokep saw that there were also three paths which were dead ends. Along each path was hung a serious amount of flags and banners. Bokep could make out the Europan and Euruskan flag and banner, but not the third. Working off his deductive reasoning skills, he presumed they were the Euruasian colors.

At the end of each pathway was a large building. There were a small collection of uniformed and seemingly civilian type individuals entering and exiting each one.

“Those are the embassies. That one over there is our drop off point.”, Said Ellie, pointing towards the building draped in Europan banners.

Turning around to reply, Bokep saw the others kneeling at the statue and chanting some sort of prayer. He himself, although familiar with the increasingly common Macro-worship had never participated in it. Having come from the Steppe, he was brought up in the traditional Orthodox Faith and had remained steadfast in it.

Waiting for the others, Bokep soon heard a commotion come from behind him.

“You, stop! Thief!”, Came an older man as another man, likely several decades his junior took off running.

Bokep started after the fleeing criminal, but as a rifle round deafened the room and crowd of travelers dispersed, Bokep saw the same young man dead on the floor. Knelt next to the body was a scav, rifle in hand. He took the stolen articles from the body and gave it back to the old man and began picking through the corpse’s pockets, then leaving. Presuming the scav was one of the guard for Scav Town, Bokep paid it no mind, but made a conscious note not to mess with anyone who worked as one from now on.

As the crowds began to move once again, the others got back together and they headed towards the Europan embassy.

“Did you see the thief get dropped by that guy?”, Bokep asked Ellie as they walked.

“No, but I heard it. They don’t have police in Scav Town, but if you see someone commit a crime of theft or murder, you can kill them and have first dibs on their stuff on the condition that whatever they stole is returned.”, She replied.

“I suppose a warped system of justice is better than no form of justice at all…”, Figured Bokep as they entered the embassy.

Before they were able to continue much further, the four need to surrender their weapons. Reluctantly, Bokep handed over his rifle and a sidearm he had taken from one of the numerous bodies outside, but kept his SHR1MP in a concealed holster. As they were led further into the small complex, each Europan guard or official either gave Bokep a death gaze or seemed otherwise disgusted by the presence of his Euruskan Army uniform. He hadn’t forgotten that these were the guys who killed his friends, most of whose bodies he had never found. He’d play nice for now….. For now….
