"Do you believe in reincarnation?"
Daniel, who had been typing away on his laptop, looked up from the screen to show me his raised eyebrow. "Where'd that come from?" He chuckled out.
I shrugged and leaned back into the couch. "I was just reading about it in a book... It's weird to think about what we all lived past lives we don't remember."
Daniel shook his head and said, "You'll never know if it's real or not, so there's no point thinking about it."
"But if it is real, what would you want to be in the next life?"
He tilted his head and rolled his eyes up, almost as if he was trying to look at the thoughts processing in his head. "A cat." He blurted out after a moment.
"A cat?"

"Yeah." Daniel looks to me with a smile before scrunching up his nose when he saw the look on my face. "Don't look at me like that. One, they're cute. Two, they don't give a fuck about anything. Three, they're cute. Four, the only responsibility they have is having sex. Five, they're cute-"
"Okay, shut up." I smacked his arm, "We're still not adopting one."
"Oh come on! Just one," He whined, "A munchkin! They're tiny! Fluffy! And cute! And-"
As Daniel continued to rant on his love for cats, I quietly get up and go around the couch to stand behind him. After countless times, I put my arms around his neck in the perfect position that relaxes me and quiets him down. He leans into my embrace and hums, "Why can't we get a cat again?"
I bury my nose into the crook of his neck and kiss the soft skin, "Why do you need a cat when you already have someone as cute as me?"
He huffs, "You're so petty."
"Oh, insulting me now. Guess we won't go to the cat cafe this weekend." I quickly hurry away to the bathroom, laughing to his indignant yells behind me.
Such happy, simple moments, are what I miss the most. The warmth of his skin, the smell of his hair, the little squabbles. Those are what made my life perfect. He was my world, and I wouldn't have ever imagined a life without him.
