“Appraisal.” Soren whispered well he stared at the high priest.
Name: Astarin.
…
…
…
Appraisal failed.
The high priest glared down at Soren, “follow the others.”
They all walked single file through a large corridor, after ten minutes Sir Elis stopped and pointed to go through a plain wooden door.
“God dammit, I got transported to another world, why the hell do I still have to deal with school!” Kurt complained
“Take your seats.” The women at the desk instructed, “I am Maria, I will help you advance your level in order to take on the wight of the world. EXP potions have been placed in your inventory’s for the purpose of training.
The summoned rifled through the air pulling out a thin vile with a glowing blue liquid.
“Teacher I don’t have one.” Soren said
“The church will not waist potions on dead wait, if you want levels so bad go to the forest and kill some monsters.”
Soren glanced at everyone and all but Jason turned away.
“Ma’am would I be able to share my potion with him?”
Maria got a incredulous look on her face, “Of course not, when Astarin gives you something the only thing to do is accept it with much reverence.”
“There is a ton in—-”
“Its fine I don’t need it.” Soren interrupted. No point in getting Jason in trouble.
“Those who have taken the potion begin to meditate, it will increase your level without a need to fight monsters.”
Once seated Soren closed his eyes and began to focus. He didn’t feel anything and after only ten minutes Kurt spoke about his level raising to level two, after an hour Soren was the only one still at level one.
“Level status” he had found out through experimentation he could pull up specific sections to gage just key information, it also prevented him from having to worry about the large boarder blocking his view in a fight.
Level: 1 (EXP 1/100)
At least it went up I suppose.
“The class is over, go to the mess hall to eat dinner.”
Soren stood and waved at Kurt and Molly, they had been friends for years but the two turned away and acted as if he didn’t exist.
Jason, his older brothers best friend did not, he was nearly nineteen but had to retake the final semester because of minor theft.
“I don’t like this they all are treating us to nice, Kurt and Molly are being total ass holes, and the teacher hasn’t said a word to me since we got here.” Jason’s tone was a mix of concern and frustration.
“Appraisal.”

“your level—-”
Jason clamped his hand over Soren’s mouth before he could say another word. “How do you know?”
“I have Appraisal.” Soren whispered, Jason’s stats came up once again and he swatted them away.
“I was gonna keep it a secret I figured with how the others are treating you I can’t risk fessing up, could you imagine how they would treat a farmer?”
“Why did you not advance? Even the janitor gained a level, and he was asleep.”
After they continued walking Jason whispered, “I didn’t take the potion.”
“How is it fair you get that much, and I only gain 1 EXP.”
“Keep your voice down! In Juvie we were taught to manage are outbursts through meditation, thats all I did, this shit is stressful.”
They reached the dinning hall, in the middle of the room was a fire with wooden benches on all sides, a expensive looking chandler hung from the ceiling emitting light from its many candles.
There was eleven large stained windows, four on the sides and three behind the high priest who was raised above the lead table.
The summoned were told to sit bellow the priest since they were the guests of honer. More likely so the priest can keep his eyes on us.
Once seated Astarin gave a toast. “We are thankful to be in the prescience of a true hero, as well as friends he can depend on. they may not have all been winners.” He paused, looking directly at Soren before he continued. “But once we get enough of them to level 100 we will be able to go on the offensive, kill the demon king, and restore piece to the land.”
The amount of cheers this man received seemed unearned. Soren looked at a random spectator and sighed. “Appraisal.”

Appraisal could not be completed due to the effect of mind control.
Soren Blinked, “Jason I don’t think we should hang around here.”
“Can we wait tell after dinner? I’m so hungry I could eat a horse.”
The trays were brought out loaded with hams, potatoes, carrots and many more vegetables and meats. The aroma alone sent Soren’s stomach roaring.
“Check the food boy.” Whispered some unknown person in his ear, he glanced around for the speaker but could not find them.
“Appraisal.”
Item: Tainted food
“Jason don’t eat it its poisoned!”
“What!” his fork clattered to the floor. Drawing the attention of many. “Sorry.” He apologized then lowered his voice, “What should we do?”
Soren looked at the fire in the middle of the room, “I got a idea.” he got up and walked directly towards it all eyes followed his every step. Jason joined him after retrieving the hook from where it had fallen.
“Now that where being watched what’s your bright idea?”
“Pretend your praying!” the two stood in silence for a minute before Soren blurted out “Blessed be the name of Plaga.”
Jason replied “Amen” and the two tossed the food into the fire. A sinister laugh erupted as the fire morphed into a face of flames that looked familiar somehow.
The laughter stopped, and every flame in the room flickered out. Moments later a wave of energy pulsed from the extinguished hearth pushing everyone over and shattering stained windows.
Astarin stood to his feet and pointed at Soren and Jason, “Seize them!” Astarin declared and guards approached from every angle, they grabbed Soren by the arms and the two were led into the depths of the cathedral, after what felt like a eternity, they were unceremoniously tossed in a cell.
“Well that worked out splendidly.” Said Jason, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
Soren leaned against the wall, “What were we supposed to do?”
“I don’t know say we felt ill?”
“You boys appear to have gotten yourselves in quite the bind.” The dark priest had his hands in his lap meditating right outside the bars.
“Who are you?” Jason asked
“Its fine he was in the summoning room, his name is… you know I don’t think you ever told me you’re name.”
“The names Pestis. I’ve been given first watch.”
Jason knit his eyebrows “Arn’t guards supposed to ignore inmates?”
“We can commune if we want to, as long as we are willing to deal with the consequence of our actions. However, that will not be a problem.” Pestis pulled a key from his black robe and opened the door. “Shall we head out, given the execution in the summoning I believe you know what your fate will be if you stay.”
The man lead them through catacombs, its maze like structure would surely be a death sentence if they were to get separated from Pestis
Soren broke the silence, “Where will we go?”
“I know someone in the deep reaches of Laveena he will grant you safety to level up.” Pestis stopped and felt the wall. “Here it is.” He pushed a stone, and the wall shifted to the left to reveal a latter.
The pungent smell burned Soren’s nostrils, “What is that.” He said well pinching his nose.
“Quit over reacting, it’s just the city’s sewer system. Once outside you won’t even smell it.”
The three climbed the latter breaking the darkness into a cool summer night, the moon raised high in the sky.
They followed Pestis as he lead them east, after they were well out of the city, the distant sound of alarm bells could be heard.
