Chaoter 3: The Eternal Flame

Chaoter 3: The Eternal Flame

Marvin a middle aged man of medium hight sat at the table. The food smelled amazing, the company however was shit. Marvin didn’t mind some of the teachers at the school he worked at. But why, of all people, did it have to be Eric who was only hired because he is the deans son.

It was supposed to be a cozy job clean the hall ways and wash bathrooms, what the hell was with this anime bullshit.

He grabbed a fork and shoved a bite of the dinner in his mouth.

Marvin rested his face on the table, Its not like I wanted to be alone, no one wanted me. Fuck who ever came up with this damn class description.

“What!” screamed the young man to his right.

When Marvin looked two of the students had gotten up and began to pray before the fire.

Should I follow them? No observe only, don’t do anything to get yourself killed.

He watched as the boys tossed their poisoned food into the fire, it flickered, and the most bone chilling laugh Marvin had ever heard assaulted his ears.

It was at this moment Marvin was alone, the room that was previously there was now nothing but white space.

“Hello, you must be one of the summoned.” A man said as he walked towards Marvin. He was tall, dressed in all red, with a crown of fire resting in his hair.

“Who are you?” Marvin tried to sound as confident as possible even though he was on the verge of soiling his pants

The same sinister laugh as the fire came from the man, “I am the Eternal flame. I did not expect such a offering tonight, sadly the boy is guarded from me. I’m sure plaga is fuming.” The Eternal Flame said the last part with so much glee their was no mistaking his animosity for Plaga “Anyways enough about me I want to know about you,” he leaned his chin on his palms as if holding himself up on a desk, “your soul was the only one in that room without a claim.”

The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.

“Just a middle age man getting through life. Nothing of interest to anyone of this world.” Marvin added the last part in hopes the god would release him.

“Oh dear boy—-”

“I am forty three years old and in no way a child.”

Why the fuck am I yelling at a god? He’s gonna kill me for sure now.

“I am sorry I have long since forgotten the age length of humans, I myself can not return to my own world but I am just visiting A…” he paused for a minute looking for the words. “A old friend.”

“Here is the thing as a guest in this world my powers are limited so as much as I would love to burn Plaga’s little pet project to the ground, I can not. Would you oblige?”

“Excuse me?”

“Would you help me burn the world to the ground? It’s pretty clear, once you’ve delt with plaga’s pests I will send you back to earth

“You’re insane there are kids out there. Why would I—-”

Marvin fell over as a wave came from the extinguished hearth shattering all the windows in the room.

“Seize them” the high priest screamed and after the two boys were gone he ordered everyone to get back to there meal.

“Murry, do you know what happened?” Eric asked getting back into his seat.

Marvin got to his feet and sat back down. “Heck if I know, also the name is Marvin.”

Eric got a rueful smile on his face, “Nice try Murry I’ve known you for six years you gotta try harder then that.” Eric punched Marvins shoulder.

Ten years. Marvin thought to himself. “If you say so.” Marvin went back to eating, he groaned when the Notice about harmful substance showed up after every bite.

several hour’s passed, at this point all of the food was finished.

Astarin stood, tapping his for against the side of his goblet to grab the attention of the room. "Thank you everyone for coming to this most joyous occasion," the high priest began. "I would like to take a moment to acknowledge the accomplishments of the heroes that have been so gracious as to..."

Marvin tuned the man out. this had the feeling of a 'welcome graduates to the rest of your lives' type speech. Marvin had heard enough high school valedictorians to last him a lifetime.

There was more important things to think about. This eternal flame guy was first in a long line of people who could fuck Marvin over without losing any sleep. Yes the priest was bad in his own right, but Marvin was sure his power still had limits.

He was pretty sure he dodged a bullet, what kind of a person wants you to burn everything? The flame god Marvin supposed.

Notice: Unfortunately, The Eternal Flame has smiled down upon you.

Flame wall level 1 acquired. Heat level 1 acquired. Fireball level 1 acquired. Scan area acquired.

Why the fuck?! Didn’t I tell that asshole to take a hike?

Message from God: you never said it aloud.

Wait, can god’s here my thoughts?

Message from God: I am the only one since you currently reside in my world.

Plaga?

Message from God: the one and only.

"...has fallen. As the moon rises, we must prepare to meet the coming night. you are all aware of your usual positions of the battlements. Go man them so we might strengthen our defenses and ward off the coming evil."

“Battlements?” Kurt asked a tinge of fear in his voice.

“Don’t worry young hero you will be shielded from harm.”

A soldier broke through the doors, “The demons have lunched an—-” his words were cut off along with his head, the giant form of a bull with horns stepping over the decapitated body. His beady red eyes focused on the head table.

“My liege has sent me to kill the so called hero’s you pitiful humans summoned, the two in the lower dungeons have already been handled now prepare to die!”

A row of knights stepped before the head table their swords raised. “You will never break the will of Plaga’s people.” Sir Elis screamed.

The high priest began casting a spell, once his chant was over a wall of light surrounded the knights.

“Ha you think feeble human magic will protect you?” the bull snorted fire before he charged, as soon as his horns hit the light he was blasted into the rear wall.

“Ugh what magic have you employed.” He crawled backwards puffing out smoke.

“Should we lock him in the dungeon for questioning High Priest?” Sir Elis asked.

“No such filth can not be permitted to stay in the lands owned by Plaga, not even in the lowest of dungeons. Sir Elis, send it back to hell.”

The bulls eye’s filled with shock, “Wait thi—-” he was executed without another word and removed from the room.

“I am sorry for the disturbance it will always be safe for you in the capital.” Astarin assured them.

I’ve seen high school plays more convincing then that.

Marvin was going to ask a question when Eric who was cowering behind him said, “It is much appreciated we look forward to getting stronger and banishing all the filth in this world.”
