Chapter 3: Nightmares

Chapter 3: Nightmares

I sit beside my sister, watching as she talks to her chat. The game she enlisted me to play with her is a weird one, some RPG that allows multiple main characters. I never got the hang of these games, the strategies and "builds," as she calls them, going over my head. Currently, were both challenging a dungeon for a quest of some sort. The chatters are just having a good time, it seems. A few donations come in and my sister responds to the messages attached.

"Yes Sam's my sibling. Can't you see how alike we are?"

The only real differences between us is our hair and eyes. While her hair is long and blonde with dyed tips, mine is a shoulder length brown. We encounter a few things in the dungeon, but they're all easily dispatched. Well, easily for her. I struggle a little. We finally reach the boss room. Before we go in, she helps me set up all the buffs I need. Then, we head in.

The beast we're facing is huge. It takes up most of the space. She starts off with a massive critical hit, halving the monster's health immediately. My turn comes, and I correctly choose the spell to cast to weaken it to further crits, as she's told me. The monster's turn comes.

It does something that surprises us both. It turns its seven pairs of slitted green eyes to us.

"What the-"

Before I can even finish the thought, the wall to our apartment explodes. A huge, bloody snout pushes its way in, snuffling and snorting. I jump up, moving to pull my sister away. A glance back at the head emerging into our living room reveals it to be a massive badger.

When its eyes fall on us, it explodes forward. Two screams sound out, one cut short by a CRUNCH. The horror in the green eyes of my sibling freezes me in place. Her heads flop down, dangling.

I glance away just in time to see the badger's claws swinging for my head. I don't have time to move, to dodge. They connect, and my vision spins. I stare as my head falls to the ground. I stare up at my green eyes, and down at my gold eyes.
