The sound of footsteps. The sound of people talking. These were the sounds I heard when I woke up the next day. It took me a while before I realized what was going on, but then I remembered. I fell asleep in some ruins on an uninhabited island, or that’s what I thought. When I woke up, I saw lots of people around me, as well as multiple houses. This must be the village of the inhabitants of this island. However, the people here clearly didn’t have any plans of letting me leave, since I was locked up in a cage. There was no way of escaping, as my sword was taken away by the villagers.
The oldest one of the villagers had noticed that I’d woken up. “Silence!” he shouted. The villagers immediately stopped talking as they heard his call for silence. “Our ‘guest’ has woken up.” pronouncing the word ‘guest’ in a rather sarcastic way.
Everyone looked at me as if I was some kind of thief who came here to raid the entire island. I couldn’t really blame them, I am a pirate after all.
The old man walked up to me. “You were wrong coming here, boy.” The entire village glared at me. “I can explain.” I said, hoping to convince them I’m not here to harm them. “You have two options, boy.” The old man continued, ignoring my words. “You can either be killed immediately,” the old man paused for a second, “or you can fight with our mightiest warrior and die at his hands.” He glared at me, waiting for my answer.
Stolen story; please report.
“But I didn’t come here with evil intentions.” I said, hoping he’d change his mind, but he didn’t seem to be willing to cooperate with me. “To die or to die fighting, boy! Those are your choices!” he shouted at me. Guess I have no choice then. “Fine. I’ll fight for my life then.” I snarled.
“Good.” the old man said. He turned to the villagers. “The prisoner will be fighting for his life in the arena at noon!” he announced. The entire village let out a roar of excitement.
After everything had calmed down and everyone went back to their daily routine, a few people picked up my cage and carried me to the arena.
I was let out of my cage in a room next to the arena. The room contained various weapons of all sorts. The only two ways out of the room was through a prison like gate, which leads to the arena, and a wooden door that only opens from the outside. This must be the room where they leave people like me to prepare for the fight.
The people who carried me here already left and I was all alone in the room. The only chance I have to survive is fighting, so I decided to look through the weapons and pick the one I’m most comfortable with. I don’t know how strong the warrior is I’ll be fighting, but I’m not going down without a fight. I have to survive for my fallen crew mates.
