THE LAST STAND

The golden twilight was slowly giving way to the cold night. Autumn was giving way to winter. Hilbert, Elwin, and the others arrived in the Southstar realm on white dragons. Amadeus was outside the castle. The castle wall had been repaired by Hanemann with magic, and there were traces of the funeral pyres in the open field in front of the castle. The companions descend from the dragons staring in woe. Morgan goes to a tree and rests from the long trip. Everyone goes to meet Amadeus, who hugs his companions and shakes Matilda and Elwin's hands when Hilbert introduces them. Timo messed Amadeus's hair as usual and they smiled at each other.

“It's great to see you all!” said Flick with a smile on his face.

“What happened here, Amadeus? Does it seem that this place was the scene of a devastating battle?” Hilbert asks scanning the battle site.

“Three malevolent creatures attacked last night! We defeated them, but we lost almost two-thirds of our allies. It was a very fast and ferocious attack.” Amadeus had a sudden a change of expression.

“Are Marjorie and Charlotte okay?” Hilbert looked concerned when he asked.

“Yes. Charlotte was decisive in yesterday's victory!” Flick tried to recover from the grief he felt. “Let’s come inside, my friends. King Allende awaits your arrival in the meeting room.”

Everyone enters the castle, Charlotte runs into Hilbert's arms, and Hilbert kisses her with great passion.

“I said I would return the kiss, didn't I?” says Hilbert looking into the bright blue eyes of his beloved one.

“I thought it would be doubled!” Charlotte kisses Hilbert back. Hilbert's companions were leaving for the meeting room. Leon was approaching.

“Hilbert! Don't take too long. We need to discuss a serious matter!” Leon scolded as he was coming down the main stairs.

“I missed you too, Henry!” Hilbert laughed at his friend's serious face. At that moment, Marjorie jumps on Hilbert's back, covering her brother's eyes.

“Guess who?” said the princess with a laugh. Charlotte laughed at the scene.

“The gray-eyed brat? C’mon Marjorie that old trick again?” Hilbert started to laugh and Marjorie irritated, tugged on the ears of her brother who held the helmet in one hand.

“You fool! I missed you.” Marjorie hugged Hilbert and he kisses the princess on the forehead as usual. Gödel was laughing at Hilbert, Marjorie approaches Gödel who was protecting his lower parts, but is surprised by a hug.

“I missed you too, Gödel! You smell so good I could fall in love!” says Marjorie with a smile on her face. Gödel was starting to blush.

“I also missed you, little brat! Come back in five years maybe,” says Gödel, embarrassed by the comment.

“Let's go to the meeting hall or Henry will come back here and pierce our asses with his spear!” says Hilbert and the others laugh at the comment.

As they entered the hall, King Bruce had dark circles under his eyes and was seated in the center of the large round table. Holt was on his right and Hanemann on his left. Everyone else had already sat down. Hilbert and the two girls sit close to each other. Hilbert is shocked at Bruce’s worn-out appearance. The king began to speak cadently.

“Greetings! Drackonius Dorogon, the celestial golden dragon, sacrificed himself in order to prevent, Leviathan, the black dragon, from arriving at our planet!” Charlotte and Marjorie start to tear up and refrain from crying.

“There is no more energy signature from Drackonius or Leviathan. Even their spirits were destroyed,” says Elwin, with regret at the loss of his friend.

“We lost a significant amount of soldiers of the Royal Guard, but mostly from the Dragon Brigade. What have you been able to discover about these wretched enemies, Hilbert? Elwin?” says the king looking deeply into Hilbert's eyes and then at the elf.

“An ancestral being named Arkhatov wants to bring the Black Wizard back to this dimension! He needs a body that belongs to my family line to receive the spirit of that being. He orchestrated all of these attacks!” says Hilbert.

“Black Wizard? Then the legend is real! I see. Is it all?” asked the king looking at the window towards the moons.

“He was sealed at the bottom of the sea by the first elven king thousands of years ago and cannot leave that place. Arkhatov intends to take advantage of the alignment of the moons so that he can destroy them and free the Black Wizard from his prison in another dimension.” Hilbert responded with some concern for the state of the king.

“Marhg Naroth is the only chaotic entity that would be able to null the spell of the sunken island and break free Arkhatov. The bodies of Marjorie or Hilbert would serve as a receptacle for his spirit. Genetic and aura compatibility would allow the wizard to fully recover his powers. Marhg Naroth left this written at ground zero!” Elwin adds information.

“The moons influence the tides and also the air masses! If they are destroyed the world will be a place devastated by tidal waves and gales! We need to stop reacting and start taking action!” says the king, slamming his fist on the table. “Here are the most skilled, strong, smart, and intelligent people I have ever met! We need to put an end to this madness. We need a plan!” The king looked wide-eyed at everyone at the circular table. Silence washed over the place for a few moments. Bruce tried to calm himself.

“We need to destroy Arkhatov, but it would be a very difficult task!” says Elwin.

“We need to think of a way to completely end the existence of this immortal! We really need a plan! What are his weaknesses, Elwin?” asks Hilbert thoughtfully.

“The only thing that can hurt Arkhatov is the celestial aura. Other spells and attacks would be a waste of effort, for he can regenerate his body at absurd speed! This world has been in peace for so long that there were no countermeasures when the children of Chaos dared to rise again. All those who cannot manifest this aura would be doomed to perish!” says Elwin frowning.

Marjorie gets up and exudes the celestial aura, making that energy cover the bodies of everyone in the room. Everyone felt their power increased hundreds of times and were amazed by such outstanding power.

“Dorogon taught me to use the celestial aura of the gods and I can manifest it in your bodies!! Dorogon told me that I could even face the gods’ manifestation with that power.” Marjorie stopped emanating the celestial aura. Everyone was amazed at Marjorie's power, but Elwin was baffled by the girl's progress.

“In all my existence, I have never been able to feel that kind of power before!” the expressionless elf was astonished. After he composes himself he proceeds to speak again. “That would work! Everyone in this room would be able to face the manifestation of the gods or Marhg Naroth, but the outcome of the battle would be a mystery!” Elwin looked at Marjorie in amazement.

“Mystery or not, I am itching for kicking his ass! He is also responsible for Fenriz's death and this bastard will pay for this!” Gödel says angrily punching the palm of his hand. Henry and Amadeus were impacted by the news. Marjorie and Charlotte had been very saddened by the fact and could not hold their tears.

“This coward tells his lackeys to attack the life of my promised bride, the life of my allies, the life of my soldiers, and the security of my kingdom and is also responsible for the death of my only and most precious friend. He will pay dearly for it!” King Bruce was furious again. The king's words ignite the flame of determination in the hearts of all present.

“I have a plan!” says Hilbert with a sly smile. And everyone was looking closely at Hilbert. “The success of this plan will depend on two assumptions that need to be confirmed! Can the enchantment that seals the island under the sea be undone? Is Arkhatov also vulnerable to sunlight?” Hilbert looked at Elwin.

“Yes to both questions! But Arkhatov would only be weakened by Pyro's flame. Arkhatov has already faced all kinds of enemies, including the physical manifestation of the gods in the first celestial war. He is very powerful even weakened by Pyro's light. Attacks with the celestial aura would be like normal attacks for him…” Elwin was thoughtful.

“What about the supreme enchantment that seals the island?” asks Hilbert.

“I need to know the exact location of the submerged island, unfortunately only my father knows where that place is. I was banished from the kingdom and there is no more record of the exact whereabouts of Black Iron Island. The enchantment has no energy signature and hides Arkhatov's presence. If I return to the palace I cannot guarantee that I will come back alive.” Elwin is silent for a while and then completes it. “Undoing this supreme enchantment will cost my life!” says Elwin coldly. Silence returned to the room.

“We must think of another way to do that then.” Hilbert was thoughtful again.

“No! I accept my destiny and no one can stop me from doing that. The Chaos champion does not expect this kind of onslaught. That would be very efficient. Furthermore, the princess is much more powerful than me and will be of added value in battle.” says Elwin calmly and starts looking at the door. Elwin teleports outside the big door and then opens it by holding a man by the neck. “How Drackonius could allow this! I was able to read the mind of this human child and he is a spy working for a servant of Arkhatov!”

Everyone gets up from their chairs and glares at the man who was trembling with fear.

“Have mercy! I beg!” the man was crying.

“What about the people who were murdered?” King Bruce approached the man. “You thought of them when you brought valuable information to that being of darkness! MORE THAN NINE THOUSAND PEOPLE HAVE LOST THEIR LIVES!” the king shouted with great fury.

Unauthorized duplication: this narrative has been taken without consent. Report sightings.

“I had no choice! I need the money because my daughter is very sick! I didn't think people would be hurt!” said the man trembling and crying.

“What he says is true! I could read this human's mind!” says Elwin emanating the celestial aura from his eyes.

“You are still spying despite all that happened! You are now sentenced to death!” the king went to an ornamental armor and took a sword and approached the man who begged for mercy.

“Wait a minute, Bruce!” says Hilbert. Reactions to the king's actions were quite different. Hilbert speaks again. “This couldn't be a better opportunity, now we have an advantage! Elwin! Make sure that this man's answers are true. I can save your life and make sure your daughter has the best Whitecastle physicians and medicines at her disposal! If you help us to double-cross that traitor, of course!” the elf emanated celestial aura in his eyes again.

“I promise I'll help you!” says the man in desperation. Hilbert looked at Elwin, who nodded in the affirmative.

“Is the person employing you, Napoleon Serraphin? Would you take him false information so that he can be deceived?” asks Hilbert.

“It's him. I can take that information to him! I hate that man!” says the man a little calmer and Elwin nodded.

“Great! Elwin, can the healing magic of the celestial aura regenerate limbs or body parts?” asks Hilbert. Everyone was surprised by Hilbert's question.

“It can, but when the soul leaves the body it doesn't work anymore!” says Elwin, amazed, already knowing what the prince was going to do.

Hilbert takes a knife from Charlotte while everyone looks on innocently. Hilbert plucks out his left eye. Everyone was amazed by the scene! Elwin regenerates Hilbert's eye with its aura. Hilbert held his eye in his hand and then put it on his forehead laughing at Gödel, who was also starting to laugh out loud. Everyone looked at that scene disgusted, with shame or anger of both friends.

“Take that eye to Napoleon Serraphin and say that I died in yesterday's attack and that you removed my eye as evidence! There is no other eye color like this, so he will take your words seriously. Put that eye in some embalming liquid. I am going to prepare a horse that can reach great speeds due to a potion and also supplies. I ask you not to stop until you find Napoleon. If you fulfill your mission you will be well paid, you will keep your life, you will be forgiven of betrayal, you will get rid of Napoleon's blackmail and your daughter will have the best treatment that Whitecastle can offer. Do we have a deal? You know your other options are pretty bad, don't you?” Hilbert smiled at the man holding out his hand. The man gives Hilbert his hand and stands up with tears of joy in his eyes.

“Thank you, Prince Hilbert! I will not forget your mercy! I shall perform this mission!” says the man. Elwin nods positively. The man leaves the room and everyone is looking questioningly at Hilbert, who is sitting calmly next to Marjorie.

“What are you up to, Hilbert?” Asks the King surprised.

“What do you need to fish, Bruce?” Hilbert smiled at the king.

“I don't know, for I have never fished before!” said the king innocently. Again the reactions to Hilbert and Bruce were, again, the most varied.

“Forget it! Napoleon will take that eye to Arkhatov as proof of my death! Hence, we will know the exact whereabouts of the sunken island that Serraphin must know for sure!” says Hilbert confidently.

“What if he doesn't take the eye to Arkhatov?” asks Leon.

“Men like him are very ambitious for power and glory! I've known him since the days when we were in the Royal Guard. Always clinging to the strength of others, like a coward, doing everything for glory or influence. He'll go to Arkhatov or give my mom the eye expecting some kind of recognition. Either way, we'll get him red-handed, capturing him and Elwin will be able to extract the necessary information of the lost island whereabouts. We just need to be cautious when following his spy and Napoleon. And I think Morgan can do this job from a great distance without being detected. Morgan is already following this man right now!” says Hilbert calmly with orange eyes.

“Hilbert, you are very smart indeed!” Bruce says looking at the prince with admiration.

“Is there any way to hide our spiritual energy, Elwin?” Marjorie asks.

“Only if someone is too weak, or maybe dead!” says Elwin. Gödel remembered information and started to speak.

“There is a rare plant that can be found in the Southstar grove that slows down your heartbeat and makes you sleepy, the Morten weed. You will not need to eat during the period they are under the effect of this plant; your bodies will be consuming very little energy. It is used by my brigade to trick predators that hunt living creatures; the aura of beings also weakens when they drink tea from that plant. I used it myself to check its effects. You will only wake up hungry and thirsty. It is not lethal at the right dosage and the antidote is easy to make.” says Gödel.

“That would work! After everything is ready. I will magically transport myself to the realm of white stones! I mean, Whitecastle! So, my aura won’t be detected sooner than it needs to be.” Says Elwin staring at the table.

“What about those armors that Galadror made for us? Don't you think that aura that they emanate would be detected?” Matilda asks.

“Arkhatov knows the energy signature of my aura because he confronted my ancestors! And you know why it is possible to detect the presence of the White bloodline. Other than that, there will be no problems if they are not on the islands to the northwest. My great-grandfather's celestial bow, which is held by the copper-haired child, and my grandfather celestial bow held by Timo can only be detected if an arrow is shot! The dragon spear will also be able to inflict damage. ” Elwin looked at Charlotte and then at Timo.

“Is there a way for you to survive this enchantment that raises the island to the surface, Elwin?” asks Eckhart sadly staring at the elf.

“Unfortunately, there isn't any method I am aware of. Don't worry, Timo. I only ask you all to make my sacrifice worthwhile. I ask that you deliver a letter to my sister! I will write it and leave it to you!” says Elwin without fear of the imminent end of his existence.

“I promise I'll do it!” Eckhart looked at Elwin with tears in his eyes.

“Let's make preparations for our return to Whitecastle!” says Hilbert confidently.

Everyone was making their preparations to return to Whitecastle. Gödel goes to the forest to pick up the rare plant and after he finds it prepares a tea according to the appropriate dosages. The antidote is also made with the same plant and a few more ingredients. Matilda went to the castle forge to repair Leon and Flick's armor. Charlotte and Timo were aiming with normal bows outside on the training ground. Marjorie was in her room. Amadeus meditated in the woods and was already able to stabilize the celestial aura. King Bruce was in the throne room with Hanemann, Leon, Holt, Hilbert, and Elwin.

“We will need the fastest horses to get to Whitecastle!” Leon says thoughtfully.

“Even so, it would be a week until you get there if you do not stop anywhere and without these speed potions!” says Holt.

“It would be very loud to use dragons and their auras are easily detected when they are flying! You could alert this traitor,” says Hanemann.

“What about the magic transport scroll?” asks King Bruce.

“It lost its effect!” says Hilbert.

“I can restore the effect of that scroll! It just needs to be energized with the cosmic aura. When I was transported to the Forest of Shadows I felt a remnant of energy in the other three scrolls that you left on the way. I destroyed those other three so they couldn't be tracked. I have memorized the magic symbols and I can make another one capable of increasing its transport capacity, then I will be able to transport myself a little more than halfway in order to not be detected. I will make another scroll and leave it there! Even horses can be transported.” says Elwin with his arms crossed.

“It will buy us a good time, but we need to wait for the spy to return to the kingdom,” says Hilbert, looking at Elwin and adds. “He left just now with the fastest horse using magic speed potions. I think his journey will take three, or maybe four days. I can see from Morgan's eyes that he is not far from Southbridge.” Hilbert's eyes were orange as he continues to speak:

“If we leave tomorrow, halfway there, it will be approximately three days of travel without any type of magic potion for the horses; this would help to keep us unknown. We must prepare a simple wagon so that they can carry my body and Marjorie's.” Hilbert spoke those words making the approximate calculations of days and trajectories while his eyes returned to normal color.

“We will give you simple clothes so that you can pass as peasants and you will be able to store all your items and weapons in one more wagon and also several supplies. I think that would help even more!” says King Bruce staring at the large round wooden table.

“That would be very good, Bruce!” Says Hilbert still concerned with the king’s worn out countenance.

“What about the attacks they will possibly suffer?” Holt asks looking at Hilbert. Elwin is ready to respond quickly.

“Arkhatov spends much of his chaotic and elemental aura of the shadows to bring the ancient ones back to this dimension. From the signature of the energetic traces left in the last fight here, I can assume that the Chaos champion still needs a few days to recover all of his powers. The human aiding Arkhatov is his eyes on the surface.”

“That is good, it will be a journey without supernatural enemies!” said Hanemann, smoothing his beard.

“It's all settled then! We will leave tomorrow after we rest!” says Hilbert confidently.

“Would you have any last requests?” Bruce looked sadly at the elf. Everyone was beginning to be saddened by the fate of the brave elf. A brief silence filled the room.

“Just an inkwell, a quill, and a parchment,” says Elwin coldly.

“It will be provided! I prepared a room for you, I will take you there,” says King Bruce, getting up and heading to the exit of the throne room with the elf.

Bruce takes Elwin into the room and asks a servant to provide the items requested by the elf. Silence took over the meeting place again. Holt approaches Leon and hands him the Dragonslayer. Leon holds the Spear and gives it back to Holt. Hanemann and Hilbert were looking at that scene with mixed feelings.

“Keep it,” says Leon and he looked down for a second then sighs and mends “It is like the golden dragon said before its own sacrifice… if we are all wiped out of that battle… there will still be a chance of retaliation.” As Holt grabs the spear back he nods to Leon.

No words were needed to be said for the decision the warrior took to not carry the legendary spear, and all left that place with their heads full of thoughts. Bruce goes to Marjorie's room, as he knocks on the big wooden door the princess answers him with a smile.

“Excuse me Marjorie; I really need to talk to you.” says the king a little shy.

“Come in, Bruce! What do you need?” asks Marjorie sitting on the bed.

“I came here to wish you a good journey! The Southstar kingdom will always be your home. Come back when you want and also leave when you want, I'll leave this room reserved for you. And about marriage, I don't want you to accept it if you don't want to, because after all, that would be very wrong. People must get married because they love each other. I think this is the right thing to do.” said the blushing king.

“Thanks, Bruce! I don't love you, but I like you! And I really enjoyed my stay at this place. I would love to come back here!” Marjorie said with a smile. Marjorie gets up from the bed and hugs Bruce. “Don't say you don't have friends anymore! I will always be by your side if you need me to,” said Marjorie, still hugging the king with her eyes closed. Bruce started to weep and hugged Marjorie back.

“Thank you, Marjorie! I will be waiting for your return.” says the king turning away and leaving the room. Bruce stayed in his room for the night.

The night passed quietly, Hilbert, Gödel, and Timo were in Henry and Amadeus' room and were already asleep. Matilda was sleeping in the room that had been assigned to Charlotte. Charlotte and Marjorie were sleeping in the princess's luxurious chambers. Elwin was writing his letter in the bedroom and after he finished writing he started making the magic transport scroll and later to energize the other. Since elves did not need to sleep for ages, Elwin was meditating after he finished his chores.
