Prologue for Book Two: The Mother Tree

Prologue for Book Two: The Mother Tree

The adventures broke into three separate groups, each with a specific task assigned to them. Izreea, Jareth, Grey, and Jonathan were tasked with finding more information about the Well of Souls, including any secret access points created by the Dardwain. As creators of the well, they needed to be reminded of their duty to fight any threat to those souls, and they should be forewarned of the godly entity heading their way. Since they were the slowest moving group with the most numbers among them, they were entrusted with the protection of Drock, the spell to alter time for the entire world embedded in the soulless shell of a human.

Sparrow, Myrum, and Jaya were to ensure the fracturing of Dule Van’s leadership was resolved and to convince the council of the school to aid them in their plight. If Dule Van committed to the fight ahead, then other schools of magic and their cities would hopefully follow their lead. They also wished to directly enlist Marcus’ aid, regardless of the council’s decision on the matter. Marcus was by far the most powerful known sorcerer at the school, and his aid would be a great boon to their cause.

Colson and Lone Wolf were traveling to the kingdom of Jersal. Jersal was on the other side of a great sea, making their trip the longest of the three groups. Since they were both enhanced, Lone Wolf by his magical birthright and Colson by his guardian stewardship, they could reach it much faster than the others. Jersal housed the largest library in the known world, cared for by an order of scholars called The Socha tia Vissan, or “The Seekers of Knowledge”, and the pair had hoped they could find clues to the whereabouts of some of the other dragon guardians from the library and its keepers. They also wanted to sway the leadership of Jersal, beseeching them for aid in the unavoidable battle for the human race. Colson had spent time in Jersal’s military, so he was aware of their customs and mannerisms, making his presence vital for their small group.

During their journey, Colson felt a familiar presence touch his mind as if an old friend was calling him. He was the steward of water now, and felt a kinship with the power of light, as both elements are used to grow life. That kinship pulled at him, impressing on his mind a general direction. The travelers decided to postpone their visit to the library across the ocean in Jersal, intent on seeking out the source of Colson’s impressions.

That is where everything went sideways.
