AMONG THE STARS

His tail flows through his own pool of star as his fins guide him in twirls of galaxies. One spiral of stars and planets, though, has remained his favorite for a long while now.

He’s watched it evolve from a large star that imploded in on itself and gathered debris from other stars. He remembers the space dust bunching together until other smaller stars began to form in groups and make these smaller orbs called planets. It doesn’t seem long ago, how one little planet caught his eye out of the eight others that emerged from a rather tiny star. He enjoyed watching this little planet evolve from its beginning with multiple life forms coming into existence and becoming more over time.

It warms his heart to hover over this particular planet and watch the little creatures from afar. To express his love and interest to the life forms of this planet, he allows the light from the stars to reflect off his sleek scales.

As time went forward of his relationship with this planet, he noticed that some of the creatures began to take a basic outline of his image. He took notice to how they would move through the blue liquid with ease just as he does through the stars. Sometimes he catches himself chuckling at the way they sprint through this fluid and hop out of it occasionally.

Some of the creatures managed to flop out of the liquid and land onto something more solid. The strange substance is more crunchy and difficult to travel through than the blue stuff that the critters were living in. However, this didn’t weaken his interest in their development.

From then on the critters started to take on a different form, a more odd-looking one. The creatures with his form still exist, but now there is a new species. They have four wiggly things protruding from their bodies instead of fins, and two of them to travel around this solid thing that floats in the liquid.

To them, it must have felt like an eternity to have of advanced intelligence. He recalls when they began to form groups within the species. They began to split and call themselves different things." "Israelite, Palestine, Greek, Turkish," what do all these words mean to them?

Despite their sudden quarreling, however, the Greeks specifically finally begin to take notice of his performance from above. They stand amazed and record his movements in the stars from their small planet, praising his beauty and prosperity at the beginning of their year. This pleases him. Finally, after giving them so much of his undivided attention, they now give him their's in return. They study his patterns and record his movements in the sky, and he gladly performs for them with grace. They even gratefully give him a name, Pisces. Pisces, the constellation. They also have given his form a name, a fish. And, a name for what the other fish live in as well, the ocean. How wonderful it is to know what he is!

His joy lasts for many years, his people giving him all of this attention. Not long does it last, however, as the humans begin to stray away from worshiping him and move on to another god, science. They have not forgotten Pisces completely, but instead have decided that he isn't real, that it doesn't make sense for him to exist. They start to explain the phenomena of the world with this so-called science. This is how rain is made, this is why they have spring, this is how that star constellations move in space. He is now nothing more to them than a dazzling picture in the night sky.

This does not bother him so much as to what their science is doing to their planet. He watches in horror as the humans rage war against each other and develop something called the Atom Bomb. They've also discovered radioactivity and nuclear warfare. This chills him to his very core. They now have the power of a star's core in hand, and they are slowly killing their home with it as they live with a smile on their faces.

Luckily, they quickly understand the pain that they are causing. Some fight to save their planet, some only care about the fortune they make, and still others simply don't care.

Pisces finds it sad, yet intriguing to see how much the humans have changed over the years. They have more will and sense of self now. He can't help but chuckle inwardly whenever someone uses the word "selfish" because it has the word "fish" at the end. It always makes him wonder if it means that a person is a fish, but of course, he understands that they use it for people who care only for themselves. Now that he thinks about it, a lot of people are being called that now, selfish, they're acting that way as well. Is that why the planet is slowly dying?

More years go by and the humans are now becoming a new species, formed by their own nuclear waste. He finds it so fascinating to see how the creatures have completely changed in appearance again. They now have four arms instead of two and have six eyes. They even speak an entirely new language derived from their humam ancestors. They now call themselves Cah-Rahs. They have also given the planet a new name from earth, Shrutha.

The Cah-Rahs have developed advanced space equipment compared to what the humans had. They are now having regular space travels far beyond their solar system in search of other life forms. How can they not understand that he is a life form? Have they forgotten him and the other gods? How long will they roam about before the universe ends and he dies with it?

With this though, his heart begins to break. Yes, they come back to their home regularly, but they are leaving him each time they step onto a ship and travel across the galaxy. He overhears them of talking about someday leaving the Milky Way. Do they mean for good? If they leave the planet forever, what would that leave him with? Would he be left behind with a bunch of dead planets and stars?

He then remembers how little life is left in their star, Sol. Perhaps, it's best for them to leave. And, who says he can't come along with them? Maybe then they will remember the relationship they once had with him. Maybe he can find a new and more profound spot in the skies from their new home. It sounds like a great adventure! It would almost be the same as being beside them!

This thought encourages him to help their space travels. It could be possible for him to push their spaceships further than usual. He can also scope the universe in search of other planets that are suitable to be their replacement and guide them in that direction.

They begin traveling to a new home, and he glides beside them, protecting them. He can feel the joy swelling inside of himself again. The love that he felt all those years ago, back to the beginning, has come back to bless him and his people. He is happy, and they are happy. There is nothing in this universe, big or small, that can break their bond.

They will be together, forever.
