When I dream, I dream of my childhood home. I used to live in a small town, filled with nice people. In my dream, I'm a monster, ripping them all apart and feasting on their insides. Eventually, I reach the outskirts of town. There stands my sister, starting up at me with an empty-looking gaze. "That's all you are, isn't it?" Her face morphed into one of pure horror as I reached down and threw her up into the air. The world goes black as I listen to her let out a blood-curdling scream.
--
I open my eyes, staring up at my bland looking grey wall. I take a deep breath, considering If I should even bother with getting out of bed.
"Oi, Martial! Your friend is here!" I hear my cousin yell to me through my bedroom door. "Roxas? The hell's he doing here?" I whisper to myself before yelling to her that I was coming. I hop out of bed, throwing on a black t-shirt I find hanging off my bed and grab my glasses.
I walk downstairs, finding myself in the building's shopping area. My eyes are first drawn to a man in the prime of his life. His physique is a perfect mix between muscle and fat, covered by a red sleeveless shirt and a black apron. He easily looks like he's in his twenties, but in truth, he's coming close to his 157 birthday. This man is my grandpa, and he's been granted eternal youth. He'll never die of old age, and in exchange, he was originally supposed to become a mage's slave. In a turn of events, he asked for her hand in marriage, and she'd clearly said yes. She's out on a business trip for a few days, leaving me and my grandpa, (Matthew Dulmas) to man the shop.
Behind Matthew sit a multitude of different swords, daggers, and guns. He's a weaponsmith, creating tools that take advantage of a magician's magic to become a powerful addition to someone's offense.
"Yo, Martial." I turn my head to the closest example of a playboy that could come to mind. Styled black hair and a black vest and pants hide a completely average body type.
"What brings you? You find an issue with your sword?" Roxas shakes his head.
"No, no. I was coming to tell you I got my confirmation letter." My eyes go wide.
"You got in? That's awesome, man." I give him a high five.
"Yeah, it is. Hey, check your inbox. They may have messaged you while you were down." Both me and Roxas had applied to Saint-Victors Military Academy. I'm not really sure why I bothered though. Its not exactly a rare thought process that humans are genetically useless. Thankfully I don't live in one of the three continents. Otherwise, I'd probably be serving someone tea in, if I'm lucky, a pair of boxers with a chain around my neck. I take my glasses off my shirt and put them on. They boot once I hit the power button and the AR screen appears in front of me. To my left is some basic information- Name, Date, Temperature, etc. To my right are some apps, one of them being my email inbox, which has a small notice symbol on it.
I do my best not to get my hopes up. I mean, there's just no way that-I go quiet. "Martial? Are you okay?" Roxas waves a hand in my face.
"I got in." I feel tears welling up in my eyes. "I- I got in!" I cover my face to contain my celebratory laugh.
"Hell yeah man!" Roxas wraps an arm around me. "I can definitely get drunk to that! Now all you need to do is pay the 10000 dollar deposit and you're all good." Roxas adds with a smile. My laugh vanishes. 10000 dollar...deposit. 10000. 1-0-0-0-0.
"What's with the face man?" I can tell I've turned a pure white.
"I'm fucked." I hang my head. In my peripheral vision, I can see my grandpa rubbing his hair, unsure of what to say.
"Well, how long do you have to pay?" I hear him say.
"Till August 31st. It's May 1st, though. Surely that's enough time to-" Roxas is interrupted by Matthew falling off his chair. "S-sir?!" My cousin has leaned down to help him.
"How little are you guys making?!" Roxas starts prodding me for answers.
"Not enough to save up 10,000 dollars." I retort.
"Well...I mean, can't you just get a job?" Roxas asks.
"What job? No one's hiring, and who the hell is gonna hire a human over a magician?" I sigh, sitting down on a nearby chair. "I mean, I'd have better luck sucking people off for cash." After that, an idea pops into my head.
"Wait, your not actually gonna do that, are you?" Roxas gives me a worried look.
"No, no. I have something else in mind." I take a deep breath and look my friend dead in the eyes. "Roxas, can you name me any human pornstars?" The whole store goes completely silent.
