The most successful pixel-art videogame of the early century garnered fans worldwide and formed communities who helped each other by giving guides and tips, the one and only
DynaFantasy I
Well-known for its innovative and unique gameplay, it was highly regarded as the game that changed RPG, Fantasy, and Adventuring games forever.
The main plot revolves around a Hero, the player, rising to defeat the final boss of this game.
The main objective is simple:
Defeat the Demon King that rules over the Demonic Realm who plans to invade Sterelia
The objective is not all that special, but the process is the one that made it unique, and the main feature of this game is its “Brutal Time Limit”.
The world continuously generates time-limited quests and events that the player has only one chance to complete, and failure results in various negative outcomes such as death and even affects key characters and NPCs in a bad way.
Choosing a quest might lock out other quests and might affect your relationship with the characters in the game. Failure to defeat the Demon King within a specified time would also result in a nearly impossible game progression, the portal to the Demonic Realm will open and you might as well restart the run since the enemies will be demons who are late-game enemies, and on top of that, they’re stronger the more time you spend not stopping the Demon King.
DynaFantasy is by no means an easy game, you can’t even choose the difficulty level, and many variables can alter each run of the game, no one was truly able to 100% the game and uncover the many hidden events and items, but a few has beaten the main objective before, including me.
No one can forget how you can raise affection points with characters in the game, you can even get married if your affection point is high enough, dynamic party setups and combos, multiple races, backstories for the key characters and even the NPCs, and many more.
Everyone had hoped for the 2nd installation of the series, but the developers never completed the project and due to an internal affair, the team disbanded, never to reunite again. The game lost traction and eventually, newer games appealed to gamers all around, and DynaFantasy I’s community came to a halt.
----------------------------------------
“… h- haa?!” I gasped awake, feeling a warm light touching my skin. Morning already arrived, I look around and see that I am exactly at the forest clearing where I ate the wolf’s meat.
It is a strange feeling; my head is clearer and I feel calm, but despite having a clearer head, I still can’t physically feel a thing. Looking back on the ground, it was not a dream, I did eat raw wolf meat and the dried blood-soaked ground is the proof. I noticed Clyde was idling by a tree, seemingly guarding me from everything that might harm me while I passed out, but thankfully there weren’t any.
… I’ve established that I’m a monster… there is no use denying it now.
Looking back at my hands, I have given myself another reality check. I have been reborn as a Zombie in the world of Sterelia, the world inside DynaFantasy I.
Stolen story; please report.
If what Hades said is true that he created this world out of pity because I died due to food poisoning and my life was a mess… what does he mean by my physical features being perfectly suitable for me? A zombie?
There weren’t any monster characters as the selectable main character, all of them were either human, beastman, elf, or dwarf.
The four races that you can select as the base race and then comes the starting classes that determine the build and gameplay of the run.
After uncovering secrets, completing certain missions, or beating the game while using a certain strategy or after completing hidden events, more races can be unlocked as the base and more classes can be selected as the starter class… but Undead was not a part of it, nor have I ever seen or heard of a class called ‘Zombie King’, an SS-ranked Class which I thought was unheard of, the highest class rank you can get was S-rank.
The Undead is a natural enemy in DynaFantasy, so it would be reasonable that it is not a possible selectable race for the main character… I have never seen any posts about an Undead being a playable race either.
Then… would the objective be different?
- What will I do in this world?
- How similar is this world compared to the DynaFantasy I that I know of?
- What happens if I complete the objective of slaying the Demon King?
- Will the world cease to exist and I get an Ending screen?
- How will I travel the world when I’m an Undead monster…?
These questions came to mind only now, if only I had a clear mind when I was meeting Hades, I could’ve asked him…
Lingering in regrets won’t get me anywhere. If this world truly resembles DynaFantasy, I remembered that you can check on a map to see a small layout surrounding the player. To my surprise, I see a map window in front of me when I think of a map, and it shows that I’m on the outskirts of Richlinet Woods, just barely entering the deep part.
The map is exactly like the one that is in the game, and I can see Linet Village not far from here, the starting village of the human race main character.
I can also see a goblin cave east of Richlinet Woods and a hidden area that I know of called the Shadow Sanctuary.
The Richlinet Marsh where I first came to be is in the West part of Richlinet Woods.
Having these options available to me, I know I can’t enter Linet Village… the people who attacked me and chased me down were proof… If I have no idea what I should do going forward, I should secure a safe place first and figure things out there.
Alright… to the goblin cave it is, I guess…
My safest bet would be the Richlinet Goblin Cave. I got up and walked to the cave with Clyde following behind me. It is among the first farming locations that you can visit, the goblins are weak and there aren’t many of them, there are even quests related to this in the Adventurer Guild.
You would ask, why would I make the goblin cave a safe place if there are risks of adventurers coming?
The cave itself is far away from civilization and roads. Adventurer NPCs in dialogues even said that they won’t go there because goblins are a pain to deal with.
> “The rewards aren’t even much, so going for the Kobolds in the Kobold Camp is way better!” – NPC Adventurer A.
Even in a fresh human race run, people on the forum would suggest that it’s more worth going to the Richlinet Marsh to farm for EXP because the zombies there are slow and a joke to fight against.
My thoughts snapped from the birds flapping their wings away and animal footsteps running away from me.
The sight of the woods when I walk towards the cave is peaceful.
The only noise I hear is Clyde following behind me with his raggedy and ghoulish breathing, of course, he will freak out the animals.
Speaking of which… Clyde Withers… I knew him to be an NPC that is a side-boss in a certain beginner quest…
A distressed adventurer would seek help locating two adventurers who went missing.
I’ve played that quest chain plenty of times and the result will always be a fight with Clyde, the one who kidnapped and sold a fellow adventurer named Melanthia Everglade to a slave trader.
The fact that I happened to already have him zombified in the Richlinet Marsh… the place where the distressed adventurer said both of them went missing at… I can make a fair guess at what date today is.
