Lorelai stood in stunned silence, Fiona Windrider’s invitation replaying in her head, settling like a warm ember within her chest. The headmistress of Miraculum had recognized her potential and she was determined to not squander that perception. A mix of excitement and disbelief washed over her as she gazed down at the map in her hands shaking with anticipation, the path to the academy.
She turned to Ian, who was still recovering from the shock of the encounter. The tone of superiority he had moments ago had crumbled, leaving only confusion and envy in its wake. Lorelai felt a surge of satisfaction; not only had she proven her strength to herself, but she was also on the brink of a new beginning by standing up for herself.
“I guess you’ll be seeing me at Miraculum after all,” she said, a hint of playfulness in her voice. Ian’s eyes flared with frustration, but he quickly masked it with a forced grin.
“Just remember, Lorelai, it’s not just about the strength of your class, but how you utilize its abilities. The academy is filled with the best of the best and I aim to stand with them,” he retorted, though there was a tremor in his tone that suggested doubt, was that nervousness?
“Then train harder,” she replied, feeling a newfound confidence in her words. “I know I will. I have no intention of losing my admission.”
With a final glance up at the moonlit sky, she turned on her heel and set off in persuit of her new destiny, the thrill of adventure coursing through her. The stars twinkled above as if cheering her on.
As she walked, her thoughts turned to what awaited her at Miraculum. Would she find friends? Allies? Perhaps even mentors who could help her understand her powers? The possibilities were endless, and the anticipation fueled her every step.
Before long, she arrived at the orphanage. The familiar creaks of the wooden floorboards and the distant sounds of children sleeping were bittersweet reminders of where she came from. She moved quietly through the dimly lit hall, searching around for supplies she could bring with her, except she never really had anything. No personal mementos, and food in the orphanage was scarce enough as it was, she wouldn't feel right taking any with her. Her heart started to accelerate, in the excitement will all the changes she forgot an important thing and now she was panicked about it. She had to pee.
As she packed her things, her face turned red at how something as simple as going to the bathroom turned into a whole event. Her mind then wandered to the imp’s words about the favor owed. What would it entail? She brushed off the concern she would cross that bridge when she came to it. Her mind was filled with thoughts of the academy and the potential it held.
After a good nights sleep, she was ready, Lorelai stepped outside again. Her breath visible in the chilled morning air, the sun yet to peak over the horizon. It felt like a new world was opening up before her and she was determined to embrace it, the map clutched tightly in her hand.

As dawn broke, painting the horizon in hues of pink and gold, Lorelai found herself on the outskirts of the town, ready to begin her journey. The path twisted through dense woods and rolling hills, the sound of chirping birds and rustling leaves a soothing backdrop to her thoughts. The excitement for the opportunity to test her new abilities mixed with the thrill of the unknown, propelled her into territory too dangerous for her to enter previously.

Hours passed as she walked, the sun climbing higher in the sky. She took time to practice her skills, with her trusty stick, she practiced her sword skills. With a flick of her wrist, she executed [rapid thrusts] analyzing the damage and speed of the strikes. She had concluded that the technique should be used more against a single opponent rather than multiple. It felt exhilarating, the power the skill granted her, the class providing an innate feel for what movements are correct. She would, however, need formal instruction at some point
“Crimson Lightning,” she whispered, her thoughts now shifting. She hadn't even done anything and already reached a tier of magic that no one else has. Touching her chest, she closed her eyes as she let the beating of her heart settle. What are they going to expect from her now? Would she be able to meet those expectations? She was lower than a commoner until yesterday.
As she traveled, the path eventually led her to a clearing, a breathtaking view stretching out before her. The landscape was dotted with vibrant wildflowers and ancient trees, a peaceful contrast to the bustle of her village, time seemed to slow down here. Lorelai couldn’t help but smile at this world brimming with magic.
Her peace was short-lived; a rustling in the bushes caught her attention, and she instinctively shifted into a fighting stance, ready to defend herself. Out of the underbrush stepped a creature she had only read about in old tales: a forest sprite no bigger than her index finger, its shimmering wings glimmering in the sunlight.
“Hello, traveler!” the sprite chimed, its voice high and melodic. “What brings you to our enchanted woods?”
Lorelai relaxed slightly, curiosity replacing her initial wariness. “I’m on my way to Miraculum Academy,” she replied, her excitement bubbling over. “I just awakened my powers!”
The sprite’s eyes widened with interest. “Awakened your power? You've always had powers deary."
"What do you mean? I only just turned seventeen yesterday, I had...a...the biggest change of my life."
"You are as you should be, closer to your true self, but since you had a big day I'll leave you a warning. Be wary, the forest is fraught with dangers. Lurking in these woods are things that seek to test those who bear magic.”
“What do you mean?” Lorelai asked, a sense of unease creeping into her excitement, sprites and other spirit type creatures had a nasty habit of knowing more than they ought to.
“The forest is alive with guardians and enforcers. These creatures can sense those that bare a status sheet, and may seek to draw you into their games. It’s wise to tread carefully,” the sprite warned, its wings fluttering nervously.
Lorelai racked her brains for all the creatures she knew of near her village. She would often listen to the folktales travelers told outside the tavern. There wasn't any creature she could think of that matched the sprite’s words. She had come this far, and she couldn’t turn back now. “Thank you for the warning. I’ll keep my guard up,” she said determined.
With a nod, the sprite smiled. “May fortune favor your journey, Lorelai of the Martial Force!” And with that, it took flight, leaving a trail of glittering dust behind.
Lorelai took a deep breath, the sprite's warning echoing in her mind. She resumed her journey, her senses heightened. Every rustle, every whisper of wind became amplified, her heart racing with the thrill of adventure.
But just as she crossed into the deeper part of the woods, which marked the halfway point to the academy she felt something, something that made the hair on the back of her neck stand on end. A chilling presence lurking just out of sight. It sent a shiver down her spine. Whatever challenge lay ahead, she would face them head-on, she was returning to who she once was before she was wrestling with despair.
“Bring it on,” she muttered, a fierce grin spreading across her face. The forest may have its dangers, but she was no longer afraid. She was awakened, and she was ready for whatever came next.
