A Real Friend

It took one hour for her to get out of the house, she wasn’t even incapable of deciding what clothes she wanted to wear. I really couldn’t understand what decisions were so hard to make. She has me waiting outside the front entrance of the building. It was quite the sight, a modern building yet towers over me, there had to be at least 5 floors. One of which Trinity has full control over. Even the front yard was beautiful. I feel so envious, a flourishing garden with a large wall surrounding the outskirts. Apparently there is even a training facility personally run by the Virtus family connecting to the main building. I breathe in deeply trying to relax, if I run into anyone else from the school I’m not sure what’s going to happen…Jason must have visited my old home at least once, he can’t be happy about this. Clenching my fist. That bastard isn’t gonna let go of me so easily, I need to find a way to make sure that Trinity is capable otherwise, she might die. She needs to be capable, relaxing my hand, the once blood smeared from the blood of my own kind. I can’t lose myself in my trauma like I did. I won’t be able to call myself human again, so it’s best if I don’t fight, especially so I can hide my true abilities behind the veil of the “Virtus companion”. A light tap on my shoulder pulls me back to reality.

“You get lost in thought a lot huh?” Trinity stands behind me, wearing a grey hoodie, shorts and some branded sneakers, Wike perhaps? “Those clothes took you an hour and a half to pick out?” I question her, prompting more nervous shuffles, she really is an open book. I am surprised someone is yet to take advantage of her. Either way it's gonna be a long walk to my house. “Let's get going then, it’ll probably take us half an hour to walk there from this part of the city.”, “Oh we can just drive!” she intervenes. Pointing to a parked vehicle just outside the main gate. “He's my driver. I already told him about our venture!” A man in a suit standing beside an open door. Man Virtus is rich, maybe there is nothing to worry about. Walking up to the car, the driver greets Trinity brightly, a large grin on his face as he closes her door.

“Uh…hey” I smile awkwardly, scratching the back of my head. His smile is gone as his eyes leer at me. “Get in the car leech.” he commands, malice heavy in voice pointing at the door opposite of Trinity. It was as much as I was expecting. As far as anyone else knows I’m a lower city dweller living in their homes, a part of the “Problem”. Who cares, my life will still be twice as easy as his once this sigil activates. I had never actually been in a car before, they are pretty common too. Just never left the city. Speeding down the road, it is quite exhilarating. Trinity giggles beside me,

“What's so funny?” I ask, she points to my arm, I wasn’t used to the speed and had tensed up my whole arm. “First time in a car?” asking me, “Yea…” I relax a little, “I kind of love it though.” Smiling. This is fun. Trinity is so relaxed, maybe I can finally just enjoy this new life for at least a short while.

It only took five minutes to get there. Really machines of the future are so fascinating…maybe once all this blows over I could study mechanical engineering. Calm down Redo It hasn;t even been a day yet, staring out the window, “Stop here!” I almost missed it, I didn’t think we would get here so fast, the driver curses as the car comes to a sudden halt. Throwing us forward.

“What the hell!” Trinity yells rubbing her forehead, “Do you want to get fired!”, “Sorry, sorry!” He pleads, glaring at me from the corner of his eye. I didn’t know the machines needed this much time to stop. Sorry pal. Exiting the vehicle the driver promises to remain there until all my items have been procured. Looking towards the staircase leading to my room, I can see a number of cars parked ahead of us, notably a slightly larger blue car with its engine sticking out with white stripes. “Jason is here.” My tone is cold and quiet. “Should we come back later?” She asks, wary of my change of attitude. “No. I’d rather he know now than later.” I gesture to her to follow me, “With you by my side I’m sure it’ll be alright!” I smile back at her before glaring forward, I hear shuffling behind me. Is she still nervous, “D-don’t say things like that!” I turn, to see her looking as red as a tomato, I put my palm to my head. Will things really be alright?

Walking up to the door, I can feel my heart pound. My veins want to burst with energy, I really need to calm down. After this encounter I might be free from his torment! Walking up the doors unlocked but it's quiet. Does he know I’m here? I open the door slowly, it creaks quietly and a foul stench reaches my nose. Vomit, they must have been drinking. I should thank Trinity for the night away, they would’ve beaten me to death with the level of exhaustion I was in. Entering the building Trinity is following close behind, someone is passed out by the bench, obviously one of Jason's underlings, I enter my main bedroom. Six people lay asleep on the floor, two familiar faces cling to a body I remember vividly. Jason, no wonder it's quiet, he passed out drunk as well. So pathetic, His whole crew lies here so vulnerable. I laugh to myself quietly, “What's so funny?” Trinity asks, “They’re asleep just get your stuff and let's leave! It reeks here!” I turn to see her pinching her nose. Dammit, Dammit all. I could kill them right here right now. It would be so easy. Just one little outward push of his heart while he’s sleeping and he couldn’t defend himself. “Trinity, can you leave?” she peers at me quizzically. My tone must’ve been too obvious, but this could fix all of my problems. If she leaves I can just stand from a decent distance and rip them to tiny pieces. Then I could live a happy life with Trinity. It would be so perfect! The power I would gain from their deaths would make her unstoppable! We could make Virtus the most powerful family in the world! They couldn’t replace me! Jason. Jason, I need you to die, for me. I need you to be erased. You’re replaceable, Unlike me. You can just die, meaningless. A part of my story. Hahahah, Please die for me, I want it to hurt, you can just die for me.

“Can you just die for me…?” I whisper quietly, Trinity stopping before leaving, “Hey Redo lets just go ok? My family can reimburse anything you’ve lost ok?” I stare at her, and she flinches. “Y-y-you’re scaring me…” I blink for a second. What am I doing, she’s right. This isn’t right, I can live the rest of my life without killing, come on. “Y-you’re right, Haha!” I walk over to Trinity. She relaxes a bit, “Sorry about that!” I laugh awkwardly, “It's fine, It's fine.” She says, but she seems unwilling to look at me face to face. I messed up. I thought I could control my bloodlust, but apparently not. It's the bastard Jason's fault, now I can’t get any of my family's old possessions. Whatever, I guess there's always another day. It’s not like they have any value to me anyway.

As we arrived into the vehicle, Trinity wouldn’t talk to me. Not even as the car began driving, have I messed up too much? Will she abandon me now that I’ve shown my true colours? I grit my teeth. I’ll just have to ride this out. Ten minutes pass, and we haven’t arrived home. “Where are we going?” I ask as nicely as I could, looking over to her. She’s also staring out the window. No response aye? I guess it is over for me. After five more minutes the car slowly stops and Trinity leaves the vehicle, where is she going? Not turning to me she stops, “Follow me…ok?” I peer at her as she starts walking towards a store. I leave the car, following a small distance behind. What is this? Stopping outside of the store, she stops again. “Wait here for a moment.”

Walking inside. Sighing, I look at the store's name. ‘Danny Veis Cold Cones’, an ice cream store? She exits with two large ice creams with several flavours on top of each and a large grin plastering her face. “Sorry for the silent treatment, I just wanted to surprise you!” Walking up to me, she outstretches her arm offering me the ice cream, I stare at her blankly. “Well, ya gonna take it?” I blink for a moment, before reacting, “Yeah sorry! I really thought I was in trouble…” I say awkwardly, she walks past the store, following the area opens up to a large park, with families of people dotting its field, a large tree at its centre. She sits beneath a smaller one on its outskirts. “Why are we here?” I ask, not really sure where the sudden desire for ice cream came. “I thought you needed a breather, you had a really scary face back there!” Her words were so simple, it didn't make sense to me. Why spend time making me feel better? Am I truly that valuable? “I need to know.” I ask her, “After seeing that, why don’t you get rid of me? ”She looks at me curiously, “Why would I? I don’t blame you, I can’t relate to your situation, or know how you feel. But I believe you’re a good person! I can tell you’ve really tried your hardest.” She smiles, and I look away. What an Idiot, doesn’t she know? I’ve killed so many people, people who had lives, I didn’t even ask their names. Just stole their power, I deserve nothing but death. Loneliness, and perpetual darkness. How-H-how dumb c-could you be! Tears start streaming from my eyes, Trinity coming from behind me. Grabbing on to my waist, Is this an attack? But she is so gentle, A hug? Why? “I know you’ve been through a lot, but me and you have got this! Trust me ok?” Her words seem to imprint on my soul. It feels so warm. Is this ok? I want this to be ok. Maybe we will be alright, “You idiot.” I tell her, and she lets go “.and after I said all these nice thi-”, “Thank you.” I cut her off, “Your idiocy is rubbing off on me you know…” I sniffle, I can’t believe such words could bring on such a reaction. Maybe it has been too long since I’ve known kindness.

She stares at the ice cream I haven’t even touched yet. “Do you not like those flavours? I didn’t know which one you’d like.”, “It's fine I’ve just never had Ice-cream before.” I reassure her, “Never had Ice-cream before? That’s ridiculous!” she shouts, “Well then we must have all the Ice-Cream there is, In order to find out which is the best for you!” She stands triumphantly. I bend over and I can’t help but laugh, “Yes, we should!” I truly don’t know if it's what I deserve but I thank Trinity with all my heart, someone who seems genuinely kind. That afternoon we bought so much ice-cream my stomach ached, a pain unfamiliar to me. It was good. After finishing we walked back to the car, my first real friend!
