Chapter 4 - Krag

"That's Krag-Alpha," Leland says as we approach the large castle. "It's the capital of Krag. If you try to get in with that army, you may have some trouble."

"Nothing I haven't dealt with before," I say. "Besides, I don't intend to hurt anyone. If whoever rules this country refuses to outlaw trans-reality magicks, I'll simply have to place a media feedback loop on his mind that constantly diverts any other thoughts towards a hatred of it."

"Uh... I have no idea what half the stuff you just said means," Leland says.

"Don't worry about it."

Leland falls back into the crimson cultists, examining the Victus Conductor with wonder. Leviticus speedwalks to catch up to me.

"Why did you take him with us?" Asks Leviticus. "Firstly, he's native to this reality, and secondly, he could get hurt."

"There was a time when I felt the same way he did, Leviticus. Desperate for magic in the world. But in my world, Primis Mundus, there was none, and there is none. Life was gloomy. This gives him a chance to not only enter a whole world of it, but also achieve his dreams." Leviticus ponders what I say.

We reach the colossal wooden drawbridge. As we get nearer, however, it closes. No matter. When we reach the edge of the castle's moat, someone from the top of the wall casts some sort of hex and amplifies their voice to a level where everyone can hear it.

"State your business here," demands the sorceress.

"I have simply come to propose a new law to your king. Is that a crime?"

"It is without an appointment!" The sorceress says. "The king is not expecting any company! You can't just waltz in here with a small army!"

"I suppose that's understandable," I shout. "I will still be entering the castle, though." I wave my casting gauntlet in front of me and a thin barrier of spectral force forms a bridge over the moat. The cultists mumble in wonder as we walk cleanly over the moat, the sorceress's attempts at dispelling the barrier failing due to my spell's pure concentrated power. When we reach the drawbridge, I socket my portable hole focus and create an area which we can walk through. Soldiers and knights try to attack me as I enter, but the four praetors stop them from ever reaching me with their skill in combat and their magical weapons. As the cultists enter, a massive battalion of soldiers marches towards us and forms a blockade separating us from the rest of the city inside the castle.

"You will turn back now!" A soldier shouts. "We won't move!"

"I can promise you, if you don't move, you will die."

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

The soldiers laugh. "We outnumber you over thirty fold! What can you possibly do!"

I signal for Leland to step up. He points the Victus Conductor at the crowd and the cultists watch as every single soldier is shocked by a highly concentrated stream of electricity and falls to the ground.

"Don't worry, they're not dead," I say. "When I recreated the device, I adjusted the Potentia (Energy) output to be about half of what it was before." We walk past the unconscious guards and head for the royal residence.

----------------------------------------

Citizens shrink away into their homes as we walk through the capital, a sight I am all too familiar with. In the center of the city, we are met with a legion of robed strangers, their numbers about the same as ours.

"I presume you are all sorcerers here to stop our march?" I ask.

"We can't let you go any further," a robed man says. His hood obscures his face, but I assume his authority outweighs the rest of the sorcerers as his robes are a brilliant gold instead of a dark green. "This is our home and we will defend it!"

"This happens every time I go somewhere, doesn't it? I travel, I am attacked, and I act in self defense, all the while being accused of committing some atrocity I never even thought of doing. Am I really invading this castle? Would I have not slaughtered all the citizens of this kingdom were that not my goal?"

"Your actions honestly perplex me, I will be frank," the elder sorcerer says. "But your mere presence here breaks countless international treaties! You must leave at once!"

"Make me," I say.

The legion of sorcerers all start chanting and pointing at the sky, pooling their magical power. "I sense no mana from you at all," says the elder. "You are a fool to try and stand against us!"

Old fool. They hurl a massive sphere of cracking electricity at me. It doesn't even reach me before it completely dissipates. "What!? You didn't even cast any incantation to dispel it!" The elder sorcerer is in shock.

I give my spear a light throw and watch as it pierces through the skulls of each sorcerer, leaving their brains and bodies splayed across the ground. It returns to my hand with a tink. The crimson cultists and Leland look at me in awe. Leviticus claps.

----------------------------------------

"When we enter the king's residence, remember that we aren't here to hurt anyone. Killing those sorcerers was self defense." The cultists nod at me.

When we reach the palace, I find the gate is locked. Although the guards try to stop me, I wave my casting gauntlet and they are bound to the ground with spectral chains. I punch through the metal gate and forcefully push it upwards. I hold it there so the cultists can walk through. Once everyone is inside, I see the king sitting on his throne.

"Your majesty," I say.

"Come from The Belfry to finally kill me?" He asks.

"You misunderstand my intentions," I say. "I've already told your men that I'm only here to propose a new law for your kingdom."

"Why should I listen? You've murdered my sorcerers, humiliated my guards, and scared my citizens!"

"It's not my fault if you are a fool of a king! Forgive my outburst. I promise you this law will benefit all of your citizens, trust me."

"I don't want to hear it! You've caused this city too much damage already! Don't think I don't know all about you, evil one!"

Interesting. It seems legends of my battle in the emptiness and my actions could have been propagated through realities by either gods or trans-reality travelers. I should look into this later.

"I challenge you to a duel," I say to the king. "Should I win, you will hear the law I propose. Should you win, you can kill me."
