Words, not dialog, kept scrolling through my mind. Like a chat room they crawled through my brain, burning inside my head - most of it I already knew during my fascinating experience as a lion’s chew toy. However, as I was being torn apart. I failed to really understand anything they said.
It's difficult to read when you're being devoured. I did, however, realize something horrifying—I would be conscious for the entire spectacle of my death. Every rip and tear of my flesh would be felt, as I bore witness to my own consumption. I was too numb to defend my already broken body.
After what seemed like an eternity, the lion finally satiated its hunger. By then, the excruciating sensation of my flesh being torn off had dulled, and my body was blissfully numb.
The little lion decided to take a nap on what little remained of me. You know, from this angle, if you disregarded the fact that a substantial part of me was in its stomach, another portion scattered around us, and my freaks blood smeared on its face, it was kind of cute. The gentle rise and fall of its breath made it resemble a regular big cat.
For now, I had nothing to do. I was suffering from the status condition Paralyzed, rendering any movement impossible. I deduced this by simply wondering why I couldn't move.
User Condition: Paralyzed.
Yes, just like that. A monotonous, indifferent voice informed me of the issue with my body. It hammered home that this world was nothing more than an all too real game. It would be fun, if the pain sense was removed. Voice-san, can we hurry up with a patch update!
Even if I weren't paralyzed, I doubt there's much a dissected human child could do under the weight of a lion. So for now I could only stare death into it…seriously, its kinda cute. I’d pet it if I still had a hand.
Despite the agony I endured, I managed to cope. This was likely due to the skills I acquired while dying.
I know it might sound strange, so let me explain. Throughout what I'll refer to as 'the tutorial,' I learned that this world was nothing more than a game—a video game, to be precise.
If I were to guess, it was created by the entity I encountered earlier, who decided to teach me a lesson for reasons unknown. From now on, I'll call him Dick. It's a cute nickname I came up with when I discovered what it feels like when a cat treats your still beating heart like a chew toy.
Anyway, as the lion slept peacefully, boredom crept in. You'd think I would have bled out by now or something of the sort, but no, I'm just paralyzed. Go me!
To kill time, I found myself accidentally opening the game menu. There were seven options: Pause, Settings, Display, Magic, Equipment, Status, and Quit. Before you get too excited, Pause, Settings, and Quit were all grayed out, and clicking on them had no effect. Trust me, I tried. In fact, I think Quit lost a little color after my many, many attempts.
The Magic section was disappointingly empty. I possessed no magical abilities. Well, no surprises there, but a few starter spells would have been nice, not that they would have helped much. The Equipment section was equally barren. Nary a robe. Thanks, Dick! Status, however, was quite interesting.

Alert: Status condition changed - Paralyzed cleared; event timer ran out.
Oh! The timer ran out... Why was there a timer though? Well, it doesn't matter. The important thing is, I can move now! Well, sort of.
Except, I'm nothing more than a tattered corpse. So all I can do is watch the lion sleep tonight. Just kidding! Even the dead—or near dead in my case—can seek revenge! I can only imagine how agonizing the pain would be without Pain Resistance v6 as I slowly pull my last remaining limb from under the lion's head. It still hurts, but the sensation feels strangely muted.
Drawing it back, I take careful aim. My strength is only at level 3, and without a reference chart, I have no idea if that's good or bad. It would be great if I had a magic spell, but Dick didn't give me anything to start with.
All I have is this torn and tattered limb and one chance to strike its weak point. Bone is said to be stronger than steel, or at least that's what I’m telling myself right now, and this lion inadvertently sharpened mine into a point. Yes, I'm missing a hand, and there's a sharp bone protruding in the most unpleasant way.
Without hesitation, I thrust it at the lion. I dig it deep into its slumbering eye. It sinks through the rough eyelid, piercing deeply. My elbow is the only thing preventing it from going any further. Well done, my level three Strength!
Come on, Pain Resistance 6, you've got to do your part.
As I grit my teeth against the pain that twists my entire body, the lion lets out a mighty roar, lifting its head and taking me along with it, my arm still lodged in its eye. Ha! I rise with a thunderous roar! Oh no, don't shake your head like that! No, my guts are going to spill everywhere! Oh, God, no! Ugh, I think I'm going to be sick.
In an attempt to distract myself from the sight of my organs being flung out, I focus on inflicting as much pain as possible on the lion in the only way I know how. Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle. Hehehe! Take that! My wiggling arm of justice! None can escape! Come back!
With a powerful swipe of its massive paw, I'm sent flying, my arm no longer embedded in its eye. With a bang here and a slam there, I land about five feet away from the lion.
Come on, buddy! You can do better than that! Come here! Just a little closer, and we can try again! This Pain Resistance skill is something else. I've died a good three more times since tumbling away, though I only know this because the error messages keep coming.
After some more groaning, the lion finally looks my way. Damn, it's lost a lot of blood, and it looks angry. This is where I would wet myself if my bladder hadn't been tossed about somewhere. I suppose there are some saving graces.
I raise my remaining limb—it may not be there physically, but in my imagination, it's extended middle finger provokes him. He charges at me once again, talk about déjà vu. Or not. In an anticlimactic twist of fate, it is the lion who falls. Not from me, I'm nothing more than a lifeless corpse at this point But to the surprise of both of us,more so for the lion, another entity joins our merry group. Whether it's the scent of blood or the commotion caused by the lion earlier, another predator has joined the party.
It had the frame of a dog, but that's where the similarities ended. Its four thin legs barely covered the bony structure they were wrapped around. When extended, they reached eight feet in length. Its body seemed unnatural, as if it were slowly melting. Countless ripples and teeth adorned its leathery top surface, giving an impression of toughness. On the sides, the skin drooped, weighed down. The creature's underside bulged, as if it had tried to squeeze itself inside. Near the junction of the neck and torso, two more limbs, just as thin as the legs, sprouted, forming into three-fingered hands with sharp claws. The neck defied logic, open at the bottom, with visible ribs acting as support, holding its head aloft. And the head elongated, ending with a dry nose. The eyes were black, absorbing any trace of light, while the mouth presented the most grotesque sight. Its upper jaw housed a multitude of twisted and sinister teeth, while the tongue was long, thin, and dry. The bottom of its mouth was missing.
It was this twisted creature that appeared out of nowhere, swiftly picking up the lion with its thin arms and tearing it apart. It shoved one half into its mouth, all the way into its stomach, then turned to face me. Sweat and blood pooled around me. This thing was unlike anything I had ever seen before, and it was deadly. It stared at me for what felt like an eternity, its black eyes threatening to consume my soul. Then, it turned away, and relief flooded over me, causing me to finally, finally, lose consciousness.
