Chapter 5

After a few minutes of thinking, I come to the decision and order the servants to bring the furniture outside before the houses. In the time they were doing this, I begin making a stone wall around the gardens, so there won’t be any wild animals destroying it…

I also make a few little wooden shacks, for various things, like storing equipment and housing animals.

Finally my servants finished bringing out the furniture from the houses, so I am able to absorb the mud walls. Then with a full mana pool, I start building a foundation for the first house, followed by a basement accessible from outside under the stairs to the entrance , both build with mostly stones and only a bit gravel used for the foundation…

“Gerad do you know any craftsmen in this area who might be willing to work for me?” I have to get a few more followers, so why not really good ones?

“Yes my lord, there are three blacksmiths in town, one for the nobles one for the creatures from the slums and one for the normal villagers, I think the last of them might be willing to work for you. We have some farmers and a few magicians in town,but they work for the nobles or the adventurers guild.” He says while working with the others on the cart (seems to be damaged a bit) and only bows shortly towards me.

“Ask the blacksmith if he wants to help make this a more comfortable town, if he wants to, bring him to me.” with this order Gerad leaves hastily.

I start building the walls of the ground floor with stone bricks, on top of that, I place some wooden beams at the corners and important places like the doors,windows and the (planned) staircase to the first floor, and  “nail” big planks on the outside of the whole construction. The same made on the inside and then suddenly…

Ohh, there can’t be something as useful as that, but I think I should try it, or else I have to do even more work…

It really is possible, as I “choose” ‘yes’, the gap between the planks starts to fill with some kind of jelly. Is that really enough to make it wind and coldproof? well I don’t have to live inside it, so no complaint, it’s easy and it has to do for now…

After finishing the ground floors walls, I build a big wooden staircase that leads to a nonexistent first floor, firstly I make the floor with the help of big wooden joists, and on top wooden planks.

For the new floor I use the same tactic as before and build the walls and fill them with some magic jelly, I had to make some breaks to refill my mana pool, but finally I finished the first floor.

I don’t plan to add another floor, but some extra place might be good, so I constructed a big mansard roof -made out of wooden joists and clay bricks- on top of all, and filled the remaining gaps at the front an the end with the standard procedure of wooden walls and jelly in between them.

Now to make some rooms, I simply place some big wooden beam in between the ground and the roof, now I connect the beams with each other which results in some new rooms, that have at least a window opening each.

The remaining things are placing windows and doors, so I quickly place them, making them easy to close and open while getting them as sturdy and safe as possible.

Last thing to be done before the new house is finished, I make a big fireplace, so they can cook with multiple pots while also allowing them to have a bigger fire going.

After I finally finished the first house, I ordered my remaining six servants to get the things back inside.

Then I see Gerad coming back and with him is a big dude with short dark hair and a short  mustache, wearing some normal linen clothes with an leather apron on top of it, seems to be the smith.

Gerad bows towards me,  “this is the blacksmith you wanted to see, after hearing what you are, he wants to talk with you.”

“So you are this new Dungeon, Gerad told me something about how you want to make this city a better place to live in, tell me about that.”

“I want to recreate the glory from the times when the city ruled an empire, make the live of every citizens as comfortable as possible and help this region thrive and prosper.” After I told him that, he eyed me curiously.

“If what you say is true than you are an idiot.” with that he begins to explain to me where the faults in my thinking are…

To make it all short, there seem to be many parties in this town, trying to suppress the others, there are different noble clans, some thief lords and even some sort of secret sect, don’t know how this man knows about them if they are secret, but okay…

“To be honest I don’t get why all of that should be a problem, I don’t plan to conquer this country, I only want to help the people.” Asking him curiously, he sighs and begins to explain: “The problem is that the nobles and the governor of this city earn a fortune through the suffering of the normal and poor people.” At this part I interrupt him and ask: “But why wouldn’t they want to get the population healthy and effective?”

“They are people who got into their positions through simply being born in the right family, they lived like this their whole live, their parents who educated them lived like this, so why would they make something new, when they can live peacefully like at the moment?

That’s too much they would have to do, they are not used to working hard or adjusting.” The blacksmith makes his point clear, now I want to know if nobles give more mana than the common man…

“You have only mentioned the nobles but not the thief lords, what about them?”

“They only care about themself, they wouldn't do anything to help a stranger, let alone a dungeon. The best way to make good results would be either making your own group, to overtake the city or leave this place and search one with better condition…” He eyes the building in front of him, and looks over all the things that will go into the other two houses.

“I see, so I actually have to overtake the city, I hoped there would be another solution….

Do you have seen anything interesting, or why do you keep looking over these things there?”

The Man winces and with a somewhat forced smiling face  he turns to me: “Well, I have two children and my wife died because of the disease, so our house isn’t a proper living place anymore, I thought it would be nice to live in such a house as that”

Perfect, like that he will live under my order: “I don’t mind building a house for you and your children to live in, I only have to finish the other two houses, than I can build you a house with an forge for you to work in.”

He really seems to be delighted, and quickly bows towards me. “I would be honoured to live in a house build by you, and about the things you want to accomplish, I think we can at least try it, the city has to get some more laughter and colours.”

I order my servants to accompany him back to his forge and help to get his tools here, afterwards they will get his furniture and then help me getting the other houses furnished.

I quickly build the other two houses, exactly the same like the first, so it’s easier and I don’t have to rethink how each thing should be made…

Do you want to save the construction plan of the house? Yes No Due to building a structure with the same plan a few times, you are now able to place a complete building, if you have enough mana for it, if not you have to make floor for floor.

Ohh, nice little thing, obviously I won’t be able to make a house with my mana pool just like that, but building each  floor for itself should be a little faster than doing it completely manually, and it gives me the freedom to make only a basement.

The first load comes, some really badass looking hammers and big tongs, together with an anvil and some other things I don’t know because I’ve never seen them before.

They quickly look over the new houses, and leave to get the remaining things.

I begin to make a stone basement for the forge, big enough so they can store enough coal and iron or with whatever they work with. I plan to make ¾ of the basement ceiling into the floor of the house, while using the last quarter for the forge, and because of the fire I have to use more stone, which really costs more mana than wood.

Because of that I have to often absorb the few remaining bushes. Not that it bothers me to clean up, it’s just that I have nearly no remaining resources.

Finally, the ground floor is finished and I begin building the first floor, which I build also above the forge, so the heat that goes up through the smoke outlet does not just go away, instead heats the rooms a bit. I finish everything with the pre-used roof from the other houses, I only have to expand it a bit so it can cover the complete house.

Finally making the doors and windows, I can see my servants coming back, but they are more then before aren’t they?
