Since not all readers have read xianxia novels and many are probably unfamiliar with the terms, this will work as a quick breakdown.

First of all, xianxia is a type of progression fantasy which usually takes place in ancient China and features cultivators, basically mages or warriors, who can get progressively stronger by cultivating. Cultivation uses qi, or energy or mana or whatever you want to call it. It's basically a type of energy present everywhere in a cultivation world which cultivators use.

That's pretty much it. Qi and cultivation are probably the only terms you really need to know as everything else will be explained later. A big part of this book is centered around laws but if you have no idea what they are, it's fine, the mc doesn't either in the beginning of the novel. Zhao Fan starts off as a newbie with little to no knowledge and the gaps are on purpose and will be filled as the story progresses.
