Chapter 12 - Betrayal

Chapter 12 - Betrayal

A stumbling figure ran outside of the tall building while clutching its stomach.

"Those f*ckers killed Ye Ran! I swear that I, Hei Long, will avenge him even if it spells my death." Hei Long gritted his teeth as he got in his car. The white leather quickly tainted with the blood coming out of the gunshot wounds. He knew that he wouldn't last long without going to a hospital but something told him that if he went to a hospital he would come out in a body bag instead.

Vroom

Hei Long pushed down on the pedal and sped off into the distance. Everything he had worked for was being destroyed right before his eyes and the only thing he had left was his gun, his bag filled with gold and his car. Naturally, since his enemy struck, they struck to kill and he was sure that he was far from being safe by escaping those guards.

As long as all of the high level executives in his company were killed, there would be no way to pin the blame on the Liang family, and due to their influence an investigation most likely would not even be thoroughly conducted. If Hei Long survived, he could use his connections to attract the spotlight and then reveal the connection between the murders and the Liang family.

"Right, I need to call Chief Nang.'' Hei Long took out the phone in his pocket with shaking hands. If he could report this to his friend who was the Chief of police then at least the Liang family would suffer a bit. After all, Hei Long did have some countermeasures set when he decided to break the Liang monopoly, however he did not think that he would cross their bottom line so soon!

Ring

"Come on, pick up," Hei Long urged. After just two rings, he heard a loud sound as he was crossing an intersection.

BOOM

A black car going full speed at the intersection violently T-boned into Hei Long's car and sent it rolling. Inside, the airbag was immediately deployed and he felt his seat belt tighten. The car with Hei Long in it rolled around a few times before coming to a full stop ten meters away.

The car which rammed into him was somewhat deformed but it was still in drivable condition, it was apparent that it was an armored car. Inside, sat two men in black suits who stepped out and started walking over.

Inside the totaled car which was lying upside down on the road, Hei Long was covered in bruises. "F*ck" was his last thought as he finally lost consciousness. Right after, one of the men opened the driver door and carried him out after struggling to unbuckle his seatbelt for a moment.

Darkness

Hei Long opened his eyes. He was in a warehouse, in front of him was a group of people. Out of instinct, he tried to move his hands but he found that they were tied up behind him. Unfortunately, he was handcuffed and his movement produced a clunking noise.

One of the people in the group looked in his direction "Oh, so you’re finally awake huh?" A youth dressed in extremely expensive designer clothes strolled over to the spot where Hei Long was sitting. "No dumbass, I'm asleep."

"So you have the time for humor even before your death?" The youth stood near Hei Long and bent over, looking at him straight in the eyes with a slight smile. He stretched his hand out and pressed down on one of the bandages.

"AARGH!" Hei Long screamed. It could be considered both a blessing and a curse, the bandages which were applied to him likely saved his life but at the cost of him living out the rest of it in pain.

Once again, he reached in, but this time his hand darted under the bandage and his fingers wiggled into the bullet wound. As Hei Long continued screaming, the youth once more spoke "How does it feel to suffer because you were betrayed by your friends? I guess that Uncle Fang in the security company who you were so close to, cherished the few million we gave him more than the friendship you had."

"WHAT? Impossible, IMPOSSIBLE!" A bucket of cold water was seemingly tossed on Hei Long's head. It was acceptable if Uncle Fang had his family taken hostage or was threatened, but to be done in for a chunk of cash? To Hei Long that was unacceptable. He worked extremely hard in order to finally strike it rich, building a business from the ground up from such a young age and putting in countless hours to make it rise. Just when he was celebrating his first real success, the world crashed on him so quickly. Hei Long was one of the few people who had a bottom line while still becoming successful as a businessman, he valued his relationships and did not stand on corpses to rise. What drove him to near insanity was that after all this time, his friendship was burned by a mere chunk of cash and all of his friends and colleagues died a horrible death.

"You must be lying, YOU MUST BE!"

Seeing his raged expression, the youth's face grew an even bigger smile as one of the masked men came forward. Slowly taking off the blank mask, a middle aged face was revealed. Seeing it, the crazed Hei Long's face lost all expression. The man standing before him was the same Uncle Fang who was his family's friend for years.

"Do you not believe me now? Haha do you think the world runs on friendship? No it is all about benefits and you my friend have crossed the line by making us face a loss." The expression of Uncle Fang next to the young man wasn't pitiful or remorseful, instead it was twisted in a malicious grin. Next to him, another masked man appeared and took off his disguise as well. It was another familiar face, and also Hei Long's last hope, Chief Nang.

Seeing Hei Long's lifeless expression, the young man laughed. What he loved seeing the most was the hope of others being crushed mercilessly. He kept on smiling while slowly strolling around him and talking "Unfortunately after a company's recent success, the board members were found dead after Hei Long, the CEO, went berserk from a mental illness and an overdose which resulted in him opening fire on them during the celebration party. He was later found dead after committing suicide in an empty warehouse. That sounds like a nice headline doesn't it?" He spoke those last words while bending down and looking at him eye to eye, a mere breath's distance from his face.

Unexpectedly Hei Long actually laughed as if hearing some funny joke. The young man was completely surprised by the sudden change when Hei Long took initiative to lean forward violently in his chair.

"What? -" They both came crashing down and the moment they did, Hei Long violently chomped down on the face which was looking at him so arrogantly before. In the small amount of time it took for the guards to snap out of their shock, his face quickly became a bloody mess but Hei Long did not relent.

"AAAHH"

"YOUNG MASTER!!" The group of men hurriedly rushed over and pulled out their guns.

BANG BANG BANG

Unfortunately, it was too late for their young master. Hei Long who just got shot multiple times rolled over and lay on the ground powerlessly, hearing the youth who was still screaming next to him.

"Hehe" His face revealed a grin, the youth lost his nose, half of his lip and his left eye in that short scuffle. It was said that even a hyena, an animal renowned for its cowardice, fought back during moments of life and death; this was definitely proved true by Hei Long. Even if he died, he would make sure that his opponent would not forget him for the rest of their life.

In the short moments before all of his organs failed and he died he actually felt the calmest, "Although subordinates and friendships are a form of power, they can betray you in the blink of an eye. To truly control the world, one needs to rely on his own strength. Even with all my wealth, I still died like a dog. Hahaha, in the end it was a mere chunk of cash that killed me." Thinking about the situation, Hei Long started to laugh while spitting out blood. For some reason, as he thought about his life and his downfall, something seemed to click in his mind. As he lay there, a pool of blood slowly formed below him and his former lively face drained of color. The only thing remaining was that laughing expression.
