Information about this new world
It has been about five years since I was reincarnated into this world. And in that time, I learned more about it and about my family. First off, it turns out the female pika char was my mother, and her name is Yuna. The Charizard was my dad. His name was MIhoto but mom calls him Rafe.
They fell in love against their parents' wishes and ended up leaving their homes to live together peacefully. My dad was the second prince of his clan and was considered inferior to his eldest brother. He wanted to prove his worth, so he joined the military and that's where he met Mom. Mom was from a rival clan, the Moon clan, and she fell for his 'dashing' looks. Her words, not mine. In the monster world, monsters are separated by clans. My mom’s clan., the moon clan specializes in harnessing otherworldly energies. I haven’t learned much about the others but I overheard my mom saying that including hers there are over fifty monster clans that make up this world. Not only that, they each have their specialties and abilities.
“Livi come here I want to show you something,”
“Coming mother ,”
Mom is currently in her Kitei jōtai or her human-looking form. She taught me that staying in this form consumes less energy. I can’t change forms yet since I’m too young, but when I’m sixteen there will be a ceremony that reveals my powers and that's when I gain my Kitei jōtai form.
“Look there beyond the trees,” she said while pointing to a pillar of smoke a couple of miles away.
“ Livi. I’ve already told you about our world, but I have never told you what lies beyond. Our world isn’t the only one in this universe. There are others, some good and some bad. Hopefully, you will never encounter the bad ones, but I will still warn you. Although there is some malice between the monster clans our true enemies are the humans and demons. They don’t live in our world however they can come into this one.
The world isn’t as it once was. In the past, humans, demons, and monsters lived in harmony. We helped one another, traded with each other, and it was common for relationships to occur between races. But now a human or demon would rather slit a monster’s throat than live peacefully with us” Mother explained
Interesting. So there are humans in this world. There are even demons. That is so cool. I want to meet one right away. Someone, please pinch me right now!
“So, it was one of these humans or demons that started that fire,” I asked
“Yes, all of us monsters have a power we call magic. It allows us to create amazing phenomena by harnessing energy that would otherwise remain untouchable. Humans and demons are incapable of such feats so they can only destroy that which this world has provided us”
This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.
“Does that mean that humans and demons can’t use magic?”
“I suppose the answer to that question is both yes and no. Humans and demons can’t wield the energy around them. It is as I said before, while we monsters borrow these energies, humans and demons can only take it. Their bodies are essentially vessels. They can only hold a certain amount of magic. Monsters can always use magic if there is magic around them. That is how I know that either humans or demons are the cause of that fire. If a monster had created the fire, it would have gone out once its purpose was fulfilled. The fire we saw didn’t disappear so it must have been created by one of the other 2 races”
"Is it truly not possible to befriend humans or demons? In the future, I want to help anyone I can: regardless of race or background”
In my previous life, I became accustomed to being set aside and thrown away. Back then, I used to cry myself to sleep simply wishing that someone would help me. Until one day someone finally reached their hand out to me. That is when I realized that the world did not only consist of horrible self-absorbed people. There are kind people as well and I wanted to be that kind of person. Human, monster, or demon, I will always be a person that extends my hand.
At that, my mom's face twisted into something terrifying. ‘Listen here, humans and demons are all evil. They cannot be trusted. You do not approach them, you do not seek them out, and you will never, ever talk to them. Do you understand?”
I nodded hard in understanding.I have never seen Mom wear anything but a calm expression on her face, seeing this version of her surprised me a little. Her expression softened with relief when she saw that I understood her words.
“I am sorry for being so harsh, but I have seen enough people I care about get killed by their kind. And I... I don’t want to bear witness to one of their kind killing you as well” she said with a sad expression
“ I’m sorry too Mom. I will be careful, I promise. “
Well, there goes my chance to meet someone from the other race. Mom clearly has no intention of letting me meet a human or demon. Hmmm. . . What can I do to change her mind?
“Mom, if I become strong enough to protect myself, will you allow me to meet someone from one of the other races?” I asked
Mom put on an annoyed expression “ Did you not hear what I just said to you? As your mother, I will always protect you and wish you happiness; however, I can’t allow you to continue these delusions of yours. I will repeat myself once more. Humans and demons are dangerous so leave them be.”
She said that last part slowly like she was talking to some snot-nosed brat. I mean I am a child now but I’m not some slow kid. I pouted a little realizing that mom would never let me meet a human or a demon.
“Is my Livi pouting?”
“Dad?”
I was so focused on trying to persuade Mom I didn't realize that he came outside. Now that I think about it, Dad used to be a military officer before he left his clan.
“Dad, can you train me? I want to grow up and be strong just like you.,”
“I am indeed strong. Of course, I will teach you. But remember you asked for this, I will beat away every ounce of weakness in your body.” he said with a serious expression.
Mom sighed “Here we go. Just try not to break her”
His training cannot be that bad, right?
