It’s safe to say that no one can get by without being a drain on something else. No one survives alone, it’s just impossible. Don’t bother trying. Society has evolved around the idea that we’re all in this together.
Even in nature, that’s how it works. You could give me all your worldly possessions and live out in the woods, but you’d still be relying on others. Need some fire? Something tells me you wouldn’t rip off your own arm and burn it. You’d rely on what nature has oh so generously supplied you with.
Animals are no different; it’s not like this is just a human thing.
And that’s not a bad thing either. Well, it doesn’t have to be. If you just take and take without giving anything back, well, that’s going to be a problem. But most people don’t do that. We engage in the most noble of activities in order to earn the support we need.
Work. We work. We get jobs. Part time, full time, temporary, under the table, contracts, they’re all good. In exchange for our time and skill, we’re given the most valuable type of support.
Money. We get paid. And then you can use that money to deal with the things that are a drain on your own life. In the end, we’re all just part of a big cycle, constantly draining money from someone while getting our money drained by someone else in return.
So basically, what I’m getting at is that vampires are pretty much the same. Stop treating us like some kind of monster! Everyone knows that we need blood, but don’t act like we’re the only people draining resources away from someone else. Sure, we take our drain on humanity a little more literally than most. Since when is being straightforward such a bad thing? If anything, you should be grateful. You always know where you sit with a vampire.
The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
Hmm? You’d rather not be sitting on the dinner plate? Don’t be so self-centered. We’re all in this together. Let’s work side by side to keep this crazy cycle we call society moving!
Besides, it’s not like we get blood for free. If you just take and take without giving anything back, well, that’s going to be a problem. But most vampires engage in the most noble of activities in order to earn the blood we need.
Work.
At least, that’s what this vampire does.
Then what about her? Was she working? Maybe, in a way, I guess she was. For someone like me, it’s too hard to tell. She had all the money she could want from the start, so I don’t know if calling her extracurriculars ‘work’ is fair.
She would say something noble about working toward a success more important than economic survivability. She’s always planning something.
I’m sure there are a lot of things one could debate about her methods, but again, I’m not really the one to comment on things like that. My schedule is already full. I don’t have the time to construct any kind of philosophical point.
The world she lived in was completely different from mine.
At least, I really wanted it to be.
Couldn’t she tell I was busy enough as it was?
