(13-0) An Answer on Purpose (Oakley Oldridge)

(13-0) An Answer on Purpose (Oakley Oldridge)

Whether or not they realize it, everyone has a purpose. A role to play. They might not accept their role, they certainly might not like it, but it is theirs nevertheless. Now please don’t confuse my statement with some sort of determinist dogma. I’m not trying to imply that your fate is preordained. If anything, I’m a proponent of quite the opposite. Everyone has free will, but it’s just a simple fact that everyone has an ideal path they should be taking. The path that will lead us all down the correct route.

But as I said, not everyone will follow that path. Some people can’t recognize their purpose. Sometimes you might even have to fight for your chance to follow that path. It’s not always something that will come naturally to you.

The fact that people are capable of not fulfilling their purpose is all the more reason why individuals such as myself are necessary. That’s my purpose. To help guide those who can’t guide themselves.

That’s the role I’m intended for. I’m disabled, weak, and my augmentation is unpredictable. Yet I’m capable enough to see the big picture. I can see what needs to be done. I can understand why some people are meant to serve beneath me.

I can also understand why some people are meant to be above me. I’m by no means perfect, just better than most.

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

That’s something my father will never understand. He has no problem using others, but he can’t imagine being used himself.

That foolish man thinks Princess Elodie is his equal. That the two of them are compatriots, working toward the same goal.

I’m not sure how much longer I can suffer that insult toward her.

He needs to accept the fact that Her Highness Princess Elodie is his superior. There’s nothing wrong with recognizing that you’re not on top, if anything, it’s an incredibly important trait. A piece of true wisdom. But too many people seem to focus their attention on finding those beneath them rather than those above.

Perhaps I’m just more perceptive than others, but it only took me a moment to realize that Princess Elodie wasn’t someone with an equal.

That’s why I have to fulfill my purpose. I need to become someone capable of replacing my father as soon as possible. Then I can properly administer Velstand in a way that will truly benefit Her Highness.

It’s not about what benefits me, or even what I want, it’s about what needs to be done. And I’m the one who's been chosen.

How can I be so sure? Because it was Her Highness Princess Elodie herself who chose me.

After years of being treated as nothing more than a defective liability, someone finally managed to see my worth. Isn’t that proof enough that Her Highness is worthy of admiration? That she’s the only one worth following?

As long as it remains one of the Free Cities Velstand has no future, I’m sure of it. But by following Her Highness it can gain a new purpose. Its true purpose.
