(Ilua’s POV)

(Ilua): “Familiar Exhibition?”

(Louise): “Yes! So, do you have anything showy to do?”

Sitting on the grass, I gazed at Louise. What the hell is this, this exhibition?

(Ilua): “Sorry, but can you tell me exactly what is this about? I’m a bit lost here…”

(Louise): “Alright, I’ll explain. The kingdom recruits the sons and daughters of noble families that won’t inherit their households, thus, losing their nobility in the worst cases. This way, they can recruit the noble children and give them jobs, be it knighthood or as a lesser noble with chances of going up the ranking. This Exhibition show off the power of the familiars, raising the chances of being recruited!”

(Ilua): “So you’re not the first child of your family?”

(Louise): “No, I’m the third daughter of three. The one that will inherit our house will be most likely the one that my oldest sister marry to. I have to look for a good job.”

(Ilua): “Heh~.”

(Louise): “So, I need you to make a big show! Can you do it?”

I get up, patting off my clothes without even knowing if they are dirtied. I smile to Louise and say:

(Ilua): “Of course! Just let it on my hands, I’ll make a big show!”

(Louise): “Fine, I’m counting on you. I’m going now, I have to attend to my class.”

(Ilua): “Sure. Good classes.”

I wish to her as she goes away. I’m quite free right now, but Siesta is working, and I don’t have anyone to hang out now. Whatever, I’ll just find a good spot and take a nap. After a few minutes searching, I find a good spot under a shadow and kay down there, with my eyes closed.

(some time later)

As I wake up, I heard a conversation that picked up my interest.

(student n#1): “It seems that the familiar of that Zero Louise will be on the Exhibition too.”

(student n#2): “Heh~, will he be as bad as his owner?”

(student n#1): “OF course he will, didn’t you heard? She summoned a simple commoner!”

(student n#2): “I heard that he defeated that Guiche of Bronze though.”

(student n#1): “Surely these rumors are false, there’s no way that the familiar of the Zero Louise, who never ever was able to make a simple magic work, could summon something other than a commoner. It’s actually surprising that she managed to summon him.”

Zero Louise… I heard that before, some students were murmuring that by her back. She never mentioned nothing to me. She probably knows about this nickname, I remember seeing her face turn cold once when she heard that, but she recovered so fast that I thought that it was irrelevant.

It seems that I was wrong, huh. I think that I should know a bit more about my master, this won’t do. I normally don’t like nobles, most of them are arrogant and think of themselves as the center of the world.

But that doesn’t mean that all of them are. No I don’t feel like making something simple in the exhibition, for the sake of my master. I give up on sleeping again and go take a walk around the school. During my walk, I meet Siesta and we talk a bit while walking together.

(Siesta): “Will Ilua participate on the Exhibition?”

(Ilua): “Yeah, I’m Louise’s familiar after all.”

(Siesta): “Do you know that her majesty will be in the audience of the Exhibition?”

(Ilua): “Her Majesty? You mean the Queen?”

(Siesta): “Well, you could say that… but I think that the correct term right now is Regent Crown Princess?”

(Ilua): “What do you mean?”

(Siesta): “I don’t know the details, but since the King died recently, Her Majesty the Queen stepped down from the throne. She said that she couldn’t keep ruling the kingdom due her sadness, so her daughter, the Crown Princess Henrietta Tristain is now the regent.”

Hoh, that’s something unexpected. Suddenly stopping and holding my hand, completely surprising he, Siesta holds my hand and gives me an angelical smile.

(Siesta): “Good luck on the exhibition! I’ll be rooting for you!”

I smile to her and gently squeeze her hand.

(Ilua): “Thank you, Siesta.”

She slightly blushes and says smiling.

(Siesta): “Un!”

After that, she ran back to do her job while I walked around a bit more. So, the regent princess will come here, heh? Good, this will give a good boost to Louise’s reputation between the nobles. Killing time walking around, and see everyone training. Guiche, a blonde girl with curled hair and even Kirche is training with her salamander. She spots me and wink at me, sending a kiss. I simply ignore her and keep walking.

I should search for Louise, she must be free by now. Walking around, I finally spot her. Getting to her, she calls me and make me come with her to other place, away from the other students.

(Louise): “Alright, can you show me what you will use on the in the exhibition tomorrow?”

(Ilua): “it’s fine for me, but you should step back a bit, I don’t want to hit you.”

(Louise): “Alright, but what you will use?”

(Ilua): “I showed you that I can use magic, right?”

(Louise): “Yes.”

(Ilua): “I will use something like that, so please, step back a bit.”

(Louise’s POV)

I stepped back. I watched as Ilua closes his eye and kneel, closing hi hand and touching it on his forehead. Suddenly, a golden light appeared under him, and a golden magic circle spread around him for a short time.

While the golden light was still floating on the air, he opened his arms, keeping his elbows close to the body, and his body floated a bit. Then, white beams of light fall from above, hitting the ground around him in a great show of lights, leaving behind white feather made of light.

While still floating, a powerful golden thunder fall on him, going straight through and hitting the ground. Sparks of the thunder hit the feather in a chain, making them explode in golden and white particles.

(Ilua’s POV)

I land on the ground after using Lightning Storm on myself without getting hurt right after I used Divine Pillars of Light. The sequence that I used to make this little show was Soothing Sunlight, Divine Pillars of Light and Lightning Storm.

I used this fancy move once, but it was only the two last ones. I decided to add Soothing Sunlight just make it prettier. I used a smaller scale version to show to Louise, but the one that I will use on the exhibition will be larger and showier.

I look at Louise, with as funny expression on her face. She notices that I was looking at her with a smug smile. She blushes, puffing her cheeks and talking angrily.

(Louise): “You’re my familiar, so I don’t expect anything less than that!”

I was dumbfounded for a moment before laughing, making her even angrier. She’s surprisingly cute, isn’t she, not being honest with her feelings.

(Louise): “What are you laughing at?!”

(Ilua): “Nothing, nothing. Do you have any class now, Louise?”

(Louise): “No, I don’t. Come with me, I’m a bit hungry, let’s find something to eat.”

(Ilua): “Isn’t the dinner hall closed at this hour? They aren’t serving meals, right?”

(Louise): “Now that you mentioned it, it’s true. Dammit, I shouldn’t have skipped lunch because of that lesson...”

(Ilua): “It’s alright, just wait for me in the room, I’ll grab something for you in the kitchen and bring it to you.”

She looked me, with a doubting face.

(Louise): “What are you talking about? You shouldn’t have permission to enter the kitchen.”

(Ilua): “Don’t worry, I have a good friendship with the staff of the kitchen and most of the servants of the academy, and I even help them sometimes when I’m free. I can easily get some extra food from there without problem.”

(Louise): “You… I just take my eyes off from you and you already make this kind of thing?”

I just smile, without saying anything. She sights.

(Louise): “Alright, I will be in the room, don’t make me wait for too long.”

(Ilua): “As you wish, Milady.”

I say, making a polite bow with a hand in my chest. She puffs her cheeks again, slightly irritated. After she walks away, I quickly go to the kitchen and get her a simple meal, that’s enough to kill he hunger and is surprisingly delicious.

After she finishes eating, we chat for some time until dinner. After dinner, we prepare to sleep. I sit on the floor and lean on the wall, with Frayed leaning on the wall over my left shoulder, with my left arm hugging the blade. I don’t have problem in sleeping like this, and Louise stopped bothering herself in asking if it’s really alright.

She’s still up, turning off the magic light as she speaks.

(Louise): “You better rest as much as you can, I don’t want you making a sha-!”

She stops talking when I touch her lips, my other hand with my finger touch my lips, asking her to stay in silence. She stays quiet, and I whisper to her.

(Ilua): “Someone’s coming. Follow me.”

We hide behind the door. When the person that’s coming here opens the door, he won’t see us. Slowly sliding Frayed from its sheath, holding it on my right hand in a reverse grip, Louise is standing behind me clutching my clothes, feeling nervous. The door is opened fast, and even before it’s opened completely, the invader enters the room.

Of course, the invader stops immediately when it feels the tip of my blade on its neck. Without moving the blade, I use my foot to close the door. The invader is covered in a dark purple mantle with a hood covering the face.

(Ilua): “Turn around.”

The invader turns around, facing us. The hood hiding his face in the shadows. Moving my sword under the hood, I take it off using the sword. It’s a pretty girl, with fair white skin, blue eyes and sort, purple hair. She’s quite a beauty, actually.

(Louise): “Your Majesty!”
