Chapter 9: A Curious Find

Chapter 9

The weak trainer's Stun Spore really worked. Was the only thing running through Brock's mind at that moment.

His Kabutops was killing the immobilized Pokemon and Rocket grunts with his sickles, cutting them to pieces before they could break through the paralysis. His Golem and Onix on the other hand were tackling bigger problems. The Water-types in front of them were continuing to assault them with Water moves like Hydro Pump, Surf and Water Gun.

However, when the attacks struck Brock's Pokemon a surprising thing happened. While much of their body was worn away by the fast moving liquid, the Onix and Golem continued attacking. The Rock Tomb they continued to use on them slammed and trapped the Pokemon with type advantage, usually killing them with one or two strikes.

One female Rocket whose Golduck was instantly killed glared at the Pokemon in front of her with a mix of anger and amazement. She was the last of the Water-type users that the Rockets had brought in specifically to counter the Pewter Gym's Pokemon. His Onix's black diamonds had grooves in them after being struck by the Hydro Pump, like deep ruts on the side of a road. Most of his Golem's outer stone plates had been blasted off by the rush of liquid. She shook her head.

"How…?" she said. "Just...how? How are your Pokemon able to move after enduring so much damage?"

Brock smiled.

"It's called type effective resistance training," he said. "Us military trainers routinely subject our Pokemon to super-effective attacks that allow them to grow used to the pain of moves that have an elemental advantage over them. This gives Pokemon a resistance to the damage they'll have to endure in battle and gives them a huge advantage over normal Pokemon."

Stolen novel; please report.

Onix slammed its body into the ground to create another series of stones that surrounded the female grunt as well as her four cohorts. The rocks created a series of walls that impeded them from moving anymore than a useless squirming. Five captives in total was all he needed to bring in for questioning.

"Seems that squirt, Red, came in more handy than I thought," Brock said as he approached the grunts. "I don't think I could have taken you all down on my own. I guess he's not so bad after all."

Brock took out the Pokeballs of his still living Pokemon to return Golem, Onix and Kabutops to them. He ran past the trapped Rocket grunts to arrive near the trans/jam machines. He looked over at the Geodude being drilled for their minerals to sigh.

I'm just glad the Rockets kept the extraction machines running. He thought. They need a fair amount of maintenance, which is why we station engineers and electricians down here. Good on them for not destroying the devices due to incompetence.

The gym leader then turned back to the tran/jam machines in front of him. He punched a few buttons on the machines for a few words to pop up on the small screens near the speakers. Brock narrowed his eyes at the small writing to view the communications log.

"All right…" he said. "Now to see who you guys were contacting."

From what he read, there were various locations.

Interesting. Brock thought. It seems they were contacting areas near Cerulean City, certain places between Saffron City and Celadon City and…

He was taken aback by the last place on the list, a city that had been contacted fairly recently.

What? He thought. No...this can't be right. This city is purported to have exactly zero Rocket activity for around ten years. And even before then there were barely any mentions of Team Rocket.

Brock scrolled through the screen in front of him, shaking his head.

And it's one of the most contacted places on this list. He thought. That...that makes no sense compared to what other intelligence agencies have discovered...how could Viridian City have this much Rocket communication going back and forth between it with so little sightings of them?
