Volume One Chapter 4 Narator

In Ancient Times

Long ago, before any possible measurement of time can be comprehended there existed the world. It was beautiful, near faultless and it was also empty of all life and even the potential of it.

However although no true ‘life’ existed there were many beings there that made it their home.

Beings such as the Eementals, existences of great minds and powerful wills that controlled certain aspects or 'elements' of existence itself.

The ones who had ruled this world since the beginning of its existence.

Thus considered the rightful and lawful rulers.

But the invaders latter known as the gods did not care or even think of such truths. They started war with them, and as there were thousands upon thousands of ‘gods’ and only 12 great Elementals, after a long struggle with many deaths on behalf of the invaders side, they were finally able to ‘win’ by sealing the creatures known as Elementals away into the crust of the world.

A powerful seal won at great cost, but also a most faulty seal, for it allowed some of the magic and life force of the sealed to leak out.

So when the gods transferred over their dominion and created their preferred life forms…at the same time as an unforeseen result children created from the Elementals or rather their power were also born. Chaos children they were called and also more commonly Demons.

The gods were quite annoyed by these Demons, which quickly became the top of the food chain and ate many of their creations. And now and then would destroy them as a mortal would destroy an insect a fly.

However they never seriously entertained the true solution, which would be to more securely fix their seal and then kill the Demons.

Partly because they utilized the excess magic to their own purposes and thus did not have to use their own energy and life force. But mostly it is believed because they were just lazy and did not want to work on so large a scale a task.

And so the seal continued to leak magic and the life force of the great ones, as it slowly weakened with the unintended promise of one day releasing them.

Time passed and a variety of mortals known as Humans came into the land through a random breaks in the fabric of time space. They were weaker than the natives of that world but they were clever and soon they thrived. They were a mainly peaceful folk so when they met other races most of the time there was not conflict but friendship.

This friendship created fertile grounds for love, over time some mated with the intelligent and clever but the comparatively frail races brought by the gods known as the fey as well as occasionally the strong Demons. And from those unions half-Demons, and later on powerful Humans of demon and fey linage were born.

For a time there was peace and all races lived in harmony.

However soon the gods came up with a fearful thought, a thought that would destroy everything.

It was a simple and easy to understand idea. That it was probable that the great ones would consider Demons and those of demon linage their children when they awoke or vice versa.

With the invent of this idea came an even more frightening conclusion: that some of the Demons upon realizing the truth might decide to prematurely break the great seal and release the Elementals back into the world.

Threatened and fearful of this possibility the gods decided to end any hope of it coming to fruition prematurely.

At this time it had been quite a while since the Humans had first came…and many of them as is the nature of such mortals had already forgotten their origins with the exception of a few fuzzy legends.

If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

Being weak, fanciful creatures too clever for their own good their own story telling tendencies worked against them and soon even the legends became mere myth and folklore.

Knowledge is power, and thus the loss of knowledge is a loss of power a great weakness and the gods who before had been shunned by the humans who had brought with them their own beliefs now had an opening of which they could exploit.

The gods searched and studied the humans, and then carefully cautiously they sent their most seductive and faithful fey as their messengers.

These fey went first to the human families they felt were the most bigoted the most proud hearted, those who supported the practice of human superiority. Ones who didn’t take much convincing by the seductive fey to make their leaders make the marriage of Demons and humans forbidden.

Demon-Human marriages gave a mired of advantages, which included a longer life do to the close proximity of magic, and the high probability of having strong children.

So to many humans the decision seemed ridiculous. However it can almost never be said that bigotry was logical.

And to ensure success the most beautiful and charismatic fey always went to most poor spirited and weak hearted humans in positions of power as well and they tempted them with a new version of the truth. One in which Demons were evil, and Humans were the beloved children of gods who should fight that evil.

Although it started slowly, and there were some who realized the danger and rejected the influence and fled, the gods were patient and their messengers most clever and eventually their efforts paid off.

With the help of the gods those who accepted this new way became powerful and were soon able to take control of other families, then villages and even the few cities that existed back then.

To the weak close minded individuals such lies was became not only believed but welcomed, and the ideology spread with a speed unsurpassed. Soon it became a view of not the minority but the majority. And so humans became a race known by their hatred of Demons and great pride in their supposed superiority.

Through assassinations of those that would be against it as well as other dishonorable tricks, this dark culture strengthened mostly unimpeded, and towards the end rather than rebel the few that were secretly free of prejudice and or corruption either left or were killed.

It was not a pretty thing, but to most of the other races, even the Demons it seemed mostly harmless one. For as everyone knew those of demon lineage were always many times stronger than the strongest human. When someone who has obvious weaknesses brag about their strength it is hard to take them seriously.

Demons also had the power to naturally and instinctively use magic, and could teach those with thinner blood the basics. They were also naturally from the moment of their birth much more physically strong then ‘weak’ humans who would remain helpless and vulnerable for a good portion of their youth and then become so again in their old age.

They thought, reasonably, that they had nothing to fear from Humans and their hatred, and the Humans that didn’t hate were potential friends and mates. Some Demons even felt that the ‘weakness’ of Humans were cute.

And Demons were always impressed by loyalty and some of the brainwashed humans though truthfully devoted to the point of obsession from the outside looked like loyal citizens obeying their leaders.

To those that rebelled or maintained their friendship with them, the Demons offered sanctuary, however those who ‘consorted’ with demons were also painted as demons.

The world became divided.
