Gaia
Gaia had long slumbered in her recovery. Healing from a wound dealt to her centuries ago when she was infected by cosmic plague so insidious, the only solution was a desperate gamble that nearly killed her. She survived that battle so long ago, but her children - the inhabitants of Gaia were almost exterminated. The remnant energy that permeated all the lands was turbulent to this day. This couldn't be seen in the eyes of man, but the symptoms were there.
Volcanoes erupted monthly, constant storms made sailing almost suicidal, constant earthquakes pockmarked the land with canyons, mountains, and deep crevasses, plagues regularly assaulted human settlements. Humanity never had much of a chance to establish a strong foothold. While these conditions kept humanity weak, it made monsters of the world unspeakably dangerous. The weak never survived the extreme conditions of the world, therefore the truly dangerous beasts were the only to propagate as the centuries passed. Gaia had only been fully awake for a mere decade and was horrified at the state of herself.

She lacked the ability to terraform herself, fine control like that was gone forever. Lost when she crippled herself cleansing the plague, but she could delegate...
Feeling her presence fade once more, Gaia acted. None of these people were worthy of the power she granted, but it was clear she would never again be able to rule her world and her next state of awareness may not be for thousands of years. All life would be snuffed out by then, and she could not remake them this time.
Seven mortals at the peak of their limited societies - seven pieces of her power. The most she could split her power, it would have to be enough. The struggle between them will decide who is most fit.
Good luck humans...
