Reborn as a Goat
Chapter 4- Defeat and death

Chapter 4- Defeat and death

“YOUNG ONE WAKE UP.”

Yuji, who had just settled down comfortably on the ground, with Hope for a peaceful sleep, was abruptly jolted awake by a shout. As the thunderous voice pierced the air, he struggled to shake off his drowsiness and focused on the source. This goat bore numerous healed wounds and a pair of twisted horns, far inferior from the old goat he had encountered after arriving on this world who gave him advice.

“Furious goat!” For unknown reasons, this goat in front of him looked toward him furiously.

“Can I help you?” asked Yuji. Despite feeling exhausted and tired, he did his best to keep his eyes open so he could understand what the goat was angry about. But to his surprise, the furious goat took a few steps back instead of answering him, yet its gaze remained fixed on him without wavering for even a second.

Upon witnessing the goat's behavior, Yuji became alert. The goat's actions stirred an ominous premonition within Yuji, a sense of impending danger creeping over him. Recalling past experiences, he recognized that goats typically exhibit such behavior moments before launching an attack..

Yuji, who was lying down, stood up. His first thought was to run away, but could he? Probably not. He doubted he could escape from this goat. Considering its size, this goat has reached adulthood long ago, so he will not win in strength either.

“What’s wrong with this goat?” He wondered himself, he calculate his odds of winning. But as a kid goat, only a few months old he couldn’t see any possibility of winning.

“Sir goat, please calm down. What have I done to anger you?” Yuji asked, but there was no answer. It seemed the goat wasn’t interested in engaging in a useless conversation.

Thinking about all the options he has in his hand, Yuji sighed. He thought of one of the two options in his hand ‘It seems I have no other choice'.

“Mother, help mother. Where are you mother? A big bad goat attacked me. Your child is in danger. Mother"

As a kid goat he shouldn’t be far from his mother, there’s no way a mother goat wouldn’t save its kid. But despite calling for a few more times, no one came to save him.

“Kid, I am giving you a chance, if you can block one of my attack and still stand Gildir will let you live.” said the goat without a reaction.

"You can also talk!” Yuji recognized the name Gildir, that goat taken away by the human also shouting Gildir’s name, saying Gildir is a loser.

Yuji stopped all his useless thoughts and took out a pilpil grass and started munching on it with a hope that the healing properties of the grass might be able to help him if he got seriously injured. Since this goat looked so serious and angry for unknown reasons it would be better if he doesn't take the risk.

With a flicker of hope, he scanned the vicinity, praying for the intervention of an adult goat from the few observers nearby. But no one came.

Gildir’s heavy breath filled the air as he charged toward Yuji with relentless speed.

In a hope to survive, Yuji lowered his head, bracing for the inevitable head-butt—the only defense against a fatal injury for a goat like him. He can’t outrun nor can he dodge this goat.

‘Bam’

The clash reverberated with a deafening crash as Gildir collided with Yuji, hurling him several meters away.

Yuji rolled on the ground and tried to control himself. Disoriented, he attempted to rise, but a sharp grunt escaped his lips, his world swirling in confusion. The sensation of wetness trickling from his nostril and the ominous drip from his head intensified his agony.

Struggling to stand, Yuji gazed at Gildir with his blurred vision, his head weighed down by unimaginable pain. Blood dripped slowly from his head to the ground.

The unsettling thought, 'Am I going to get killed by a goat?' dominated his mind. Fearful of another blow, he raised his head, observing the goat preparing for a second head-butt. Despite the impending danger, Yuji stood firm, determined to face his fate honorably, even though there is no honor dying at the hands of a goat.

In the following moment, another force collided with him, and his weakened legs gave way, causing him to collapse to the ground. The pain emanating from his head engulfed him entirely, and darkness slowly encroached upon his fading vision.

“I am going to die, I am going to die”

"GILDIR, THAT’S ENOUGH," a voice pierced through Yuji's despair, offering a glimmer of hope amid the darkness. With blurry eyes, he turned towards the savior: a goat with brown, mottled skin and a distinguished beard. However, before he could discern more, darkness overtook his vision, and he slowly slipped into unconsciousness.

“Enough? I haven’t even started!” Gildir's retort echoed with a chilling laugh.

“He's dying. How can you be so cruel to your own kind?” The bearded goat's words carried an air of disbelief as he glanced at Yuji, who had already lost consciousness.

"Look who is talking. So what if he dies? He’s just an outsider. It’s his luck that I haven't killed him in the first attack. He doesn’t have any place to live here," retorted Gildir with a sinister grin playing on his lips.

“IMPUDENT! YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO DECIDE THAT!” thundered the bearded goat, his voice filled with righteous indignation.

As the bearded goat’s furious response echoed, Gildir turned towards the elder goat with a menacing glare. An invisible tension thickened the atmosphere, as if a great battle would take place at any moment. However, no one made the first move, they kept glaring toward each other for a few more seconds in silence.

Soon this silence was broken by Gildir. Gildir directed his gaze towards Yuji and raised his voice. “It's not me who doesn't want to protect his own kind, it's you."

"How long are you going to protect him?” Saying this, Gildir left, so did the few goats who were watching the show.

With Gildir’s departure, the bearded goat approached Yuji with a solemn expression. A shadow of concern crossed his face as he leaned in closer to unconscious Yuji.

“Hang in there boy. Don’t let go,” he whispered, with a voice tinged with a mix of compassion and urgency.

The body of the bearded goat suddenly emitted a vibrant green glow, accompanied by a stir in the surrounding wind. Gradually, the goat's form brightened, enveloping Yuji in a radiant aura, slowly and miraculously blood coming out from wounds on Yuji's head slowly closed and mark of the wound completely disappeared.

Seeing this a smile appeared on the face of the bearded goat. After a few moments, the intense glow subsided and vanished completely, leaving the bearded goat panting heavily on the ground. He gazed upward, muttering, 'This darned old body of mine.'

While the entire process unfolded swiftly, a few keen observers noticed the spell's use. Among them was a man standing on a balcony, he has short hair and a medium-size beard, his whole body marked with the signs of battle. Dressed in a standard shirt and pajamas, he exuded rugged charm. From his point of view, he surveyed the bustling city, observing its people, homes, and the protective wall encircling it.

As he was looking toward the horizon , suddenly his eyes glowed and a frown appeared on his face.

“Someone using a healing spell! But that direction is,” this man immediately thought of something, and the frown on his face darkened. He walked back inside the room.

“Is there someone?” As he shouted, a man wearing heavy metal armor rushed inside. ”Lord?”

“Summon Craith, tell him to lead a force to the north and investigate what’s happening.”

With a firm nod of understanding, the soldier swiftly departed, the urgency of his mission evident in his determined stride

The man then slowly walked back to the balcony and kept looking at the departing soldiers as he glanced at the north with a frown on his face.
