Author’s Note: I was informed of my silly decision of keeping the stats of Daren the same so, I decided due to his infancy stage where all of his stats were 1 (or 10 in Intelligence/ Wisdom) also I stupidly put in one of the chapters Dexterity + 1 from being hit so, I added that point to Vitality and changed the chapter; so I’m going to increase all his stats by 4/5 which would make his base stats 5 – whilst the normal base stats are 10 and I’ll explain that later within in the story; apologies for the slow releases due to school, I haven’t really gotten much time to be writing but, I promise when I get a chance you’ll be getting a massive chunk of chapters to serve my readers justice.

Daren Lancaster’s Perspective
I finally woke up, I need to stop fainting after I’ve gone through hard training or fighting because, it certainly won’t help me in the future; when I’m on adventures or fighting very difficult people but, I think that ‘ Willpower ‘ stat should help me from now on. I hear shouting and banging downstairs and was curious to what was happening. I tried to force my body to stand up and go downstairs but, I was unsuccessful in my attempt; sitting down on my bed in silence, I can hear silent whimpers and couldn’t handle the tension which led to my curiosity overwhelming the current pain I’m feeling in my legs.
Standing up, I try to move towards the door which seemed so far away and my feet were steadily getting heavier creating a lot of noise when I moved. I finally got to the stairs and then made my way downstairs; noticing that my mother was clutching her eyes and silently whimpering. I approach her and said: “ Mother why are you crying? What is wrong…? Did something happen with dad? “ my tone inquisitive and sympathetic, my eyebrows shaping into a frown; surely dad wouldn’t want to make mum upset from what I’ve seen, he is as caring and loving like mother.
Shaking her head gently as she wiped the tears underneath her eyes which looked a little darker than normal – most likely from the crying; turning her head to me and hugging me tightly which leaves me puzzled. Kissing my forehead, she tells me: “ Your Father has not done anything; I was just thinking about the past. You’ll know one day. “ her tone still having signs that she has been crying yet, trying to pull a vague smile on her face.
I nod my head and she points towards the food that she left for me; when I go retrieve it, I turn around and notice she wasn’t at the table anymore and steadily making her way upstairs. I best leave her to her own devices, something is certainly plaguing her mind and I don’t think I can help right now; I have to become stronger and wiser to make sure my mother never has to suffer like this… Ever.
After eating, I notice that I’ve only been resting for a few hours since the spar and I decided that I would sleep until the next period of training with my father; I was quite excited due to the few abilities that I’ve got, certainly I can now put up a fight on top of that with my swordsmanship that I’ve earned through hard work. Including my【Eyes of God】and【Battle Foresight】I’m sure I can be considered a challenge now; anyway after finishing eating, I prayed to whatever God(s) my mother keeps so dearly to her heart, asking them to guide and protect my mother; then head to my room to sleep until tomorrow morning.
This time around, I was awoken by my father who was fully equipped but instead of his usual social and friendly demeanour; I was met by a somewhat-cold and stern one. I got up and got ready silently before, following him outside. Instead of our usual walk upwards to the Guard Courtyard, we were walking towards the exit of the settlement where your usual low-level monsters where (like Slimes and Wolves), looking up towards my father with a bemused expression and said: “ Father, why are we going outside of the village? Aren’t there monsters? “
Looking down at me still retaining his stern expression as he told me: “ Yes there are monsters, this is your next set of training. I’m going to be making sure that you are strong enough to protect yourself in the foreseeable future. “ he smirked at me which eased the tense atmosphere quite a bit and I returned the childish, gleeful smile back to him.
We walked for several minutes before, approaching a small forest which my father then muttered underneath his breath without glancing at me: “ We are going to be hunting, wolves today. I’ve got my specific reasons and I think that the best way of training you would be through combat experience. “ a smirk appeared on his face before, he continued to walk on urging me to follow. Walking deeper and deeper into the forest, the sunlight was becoming dimmer before, near to non-existent but luckily for me, my eyes adapted nearly instantaneously but not perfectly became similar to night-vision goggles.
“Can you see them?” my father bent his body as he began to sneak silently in near perfection which left me in awe of his sneaking skills; I followed his lead and carefully watched my step as I followed him. Narrowing my eyes to see what he was looking at; I momentarily activated【Eyes of God】to see what he was talking about; I see a pack of five wolves as they were furiously feasting on several rabbits. Glancing at my father after deactivating【Eyes of God】I gulp and asked him: “ Yeah, I can see them; why’d you ask ? “ looking down at me with a sadistic smile, he then whistles so loudly I thought my ears were about to fall off.
After, I recover from the loud whistling; I notice my situation turning to face my father… He disappeared. Why the fuck would he do this? Unfortunately, I’m going to have to face these wolves by myself as they growl underneath this breath slowly strolling towards me on all fours; they steadily surround me in a 360 angle.
My thoughts were muddled up and my heart started beating much faster; I was hyperventilating as I unsheathed my trusty wooden-sword holding it like I’ve never done swordsmanship training before, my stance was messed up and I kept on turning around to look at the wolves that were growling in all directions. My head started to spinand I was puzzled at what I was supposed to do; fighting with a human was much easier because, they weren’t oozing massive killing but, this time… No one was here to save me and no one would know if I died here.
Activating【Eyes of God】I try to realign my thoughts and prepare for combat because, I came to a realization that they would attack me regardless if I was prepared or not; moving back into my stance putting my feet together, standing up straight and clutching my sword’s hilt with both of my hands glaring at the opponent in front of me.
Arthur Lancaster’s Perspective
As soon as I whistled, I used my speed and distraction to swiftly and silently climb up a tree that was beside Daren; I had to make sure it seemed as if I deserted him to make him think that he is by himself. If someone was to continuously look after you and watch over you like a hawk; how could you develop true battle sense? You have to fight like your life depended on it because, surely you’ll not be with your guardian for all of your life.
Watching my son chaotically and anxiously turn himself around to face the several wolves who smartly surrounded him; I thought to myself: “ Is he truly my son ? With the way he is reacting, I don’t think he can ever become a warrior... Although, he is quite young.” Although, I must admit that my thoughts wasn’t fatherly but, he wanted to be trained and that is exactly what he is going to get; if he can’t overcome this obstacle, he should just stay in the village and become one of those simpletons such as Farmers, Blacksmiths and etc.

Glaring at my son; I notice that he stopped moving completely turning around in a direction that I could see his fac; he then closed his eyes going back to his usual stance which made me unconsciously nod my head in approval of his actions and he then opened his eyes
…!
Daren’s iris slowly turned sanguine-red as a white magic-circle began to steadily become more opaque and visible… I didn’t know my son had something like this; this is going to be interesting…
Daren Lancaster’s Perspective
Ability Gained “Battle Steady” (Passive) Through your realization and otherworldly reason; you’ve noticed that staying in dismay and panic in battle could lead to your untimed death; you’ve now gained the resistance to be moved emotionally or feel panic during battle.
- This works unless a massive amount of a certain emotion overwhelms your mind; disabling this passive.
- This passive cannot be increased or levelled
Dismissing the notification; I glanced at the wolves slowly rotating around calmly counting the number of opponents who beat me in quantity 5 : 1. Trying to recall the feeling of mana being pulled at in my abdomen when my mana was used to activate my【Eyes of God】in an attempt to manipulate that feeling to feel the life force in my surroundings…
Ability Gained “Sense Presence” (Active: Basic Rank 1) Through the attempt to weave your mana outside of your body; to record the existence of other living beings with mana; you’ve gained the ability to sense the presence of those around you in a limited distance.
5 Mana per second
- You can only sense the existence of those with mana around you in a 5m circumference
- Circumference increases as your proficiency with this skill increases
Quickly scanning over the contents of the notification; a grin slowly appeared on my face before, I activated【Sense Presence】which allowed me to feel all the wolves within the circumference of my prowess which was luckily all of them; maybe that’s because I was so focused on sensing the ones around me, my body adapted and formed a skill which allowed me to sense just around the needed distance.
The wolf at 260 degrees clockwise was running towards me at a high speed; which would take about 3s to reach me but, for me to turn around would take 4s so, I decided to go anti-clockwise which took me about 2s with my speed compared to the wolf; it then pounced at me which I responded by moving to the side and then turned to its direction as it landed on the floor smacking my wooden sword with as much strength that I could muster aiming to gain minimal fatigue as it looked dazed for a second; taking this advantage I changed my stance according to my father’s teaching and lunged towards the rib-cage of the wolf…
Interrupted by another wolf who was exactly behind me; running at the same speed as the previous wolf to save his pack-member. It took three seconds for it to reach me but, I reacted within two seconds aiming to slash horizontally at its jaw but, then I could sense the three wolves moving in through their excessive, loud growling. “ I have to escape getting cornered, else this can end very badly. “ I thought to myself.
Jumping backwards to avoid being surrounded and cornered by the wolves; I could see the minuscule impact I made on one of the wolves being barely injured from my head attack but, I can finally see that being calm and composed wins the fight albeit, all the damage that I was doing was blunt. In what seemed like an instant, I see four of the wolves head slide off which left me bemused and in veneration… Turning to see my father that was by my side smiling at me with blood dripping from his wooden-sword which radiated with intensity and glaring at it with my【Eyes of God】made me feel as if I was going to faint.
“ Dad, what is that dense aura around your sword ? “ I spoke in an inquisitive manner before, he looked me with shock and replied: “ That my boy, is imbuing mana into a weapon; this is what you do… You begin to channel your mana through your mana veins to whatever hand is holding the weapon; then you allow it to flow into your weapon as if an extension to your arm and you maintain that feeling trying to shape it to your will; in this case I’m trying to sharpen the blade and strengthen the durability and hardness of the weapon. “ he said with a smirk; whilst speaking he retracted the augmentation then went through the process of imbuing his mana into his weapon, to show me how he did so. I watched carefully, trying to picture the process as knowledge started to flood into me.
Ability Learned “Mana Enhance” (Active: Basic Rank 1) Through observing the action of imbuing mana into a weapon with the【Eyes of God】and understanding the process of the augmentation. You’ve learned how to replicate the process sufficiently and nearly flawlessly.
5 Mana per second
- You’re capable of imbuing mana into a sword increasing its hardness and sharpness
- As you increase your proficiency with this technique, you’ll be able to imbue your mana with things which are virtually near-impossible to imbue your mana into and it’s efficiency increases
Ability Gained “Mana Manipulation” (Passive: Basic Rank 1) Through understanding the process and observing the process with 【Eyes of God】and mentally imaging the process you are now capable of manipulating mana on a very basic level; which are one of the perquisites to utilize magic.
I smirk at the notifications I gained and requested to my father if I could handle the wolf in front of me and he then sheathed his sword whilst replying: “ I always intended to do that, else I would’ve killed them all. I have high expectations for you, meet them Daren. “ his tone retaining its seriousness. Surprisingly, the wolf hadn’t attacked us before now but, glaring at it now it seemed to be mourning and whimpering over the death of his pack; now glaring at me with rage and sorrow whilst growling much louder than before.
“ It seems angry at me… It’s now or never. “ I thought to myself, as I was channeling my mana through my mana veins which I could feel that there was a lot of them and began to try enhance my wooden sword with it which was fairly hard but, I succeeded and my blade was now coated in a gold lustre which looked mesmerizing but, excessively draining instead of maintaining the swords shape and humbly enhancing it; it seemed like I was showing off and wasting mana unnecessarily which pissed me off but, I couldn’t do nothing about it.
I got back into my stance as I notice my father has once more disappeared. I focus once more on my previous skills giving all my attention to the wolf in front of me; thinking about my【Battle Foresight】and activating【Sense Presence】as an insurance, in case he gets behind me.
This was the battle that was going to decide whether my progression, halts or continues…
