Chapter 3 - The Meeting

Jaden found himself in an empty space. There was nothing here, only darkness. Also, he was not in his own body but the body of some man and he had no control over his own actions. He looked around and notices a staircase behind him. He sees that there was a black colored throne at the end of the stairway and started walking towards it. For some reason, even though there were not many stairs but he was just not able to reach the throne. The worst thing was that with each step he took, he experienced a multitude of emotions ranging from joy, sadness, regret, anger, relief, and many others that even he had no idea of what they meant. When he looked back to see his journey all he could see was an endless void filled with souls. He instinctively knew that they were the souls of people who had died so that he could stand where he was today. Some willingly and some forced. He tried to run away from them but was unable to and all it accomplished was that there were just more unfamiliar emotions inside of him and more souls behind him.

He kept trying to run for what seemed like hours but still nothing changed. After running for a few more hours he came to accept these feelings and the burden of the souls that were sacrificed for him to stand at the summit. He stopped running from them and accepted them. Just as he did so he noticed that he was standing in front of the throne. He instinctively knew that the throne was calling for him. He stepped forward and sat on the throne and as he did so, fragments of memories, scenes unfamiliar to him were shown to him. Then a man showed in front and said "Do not repeat mistakes that I did. Cherish your loved ones because the burden of the Throne is not something that a single man can carry."

Suddenly Jaden was in control of the body and asked "What is all this and who are you."

The man and smiled, trying to reply but before he could, a mechanical female voice came out of nowhere.

"It's not time yet."

And the dream ended there and Jaden woke up in his bed. "That dream again...."

It's just like that. It was not the first time that Jaden had this dream and he had been having this same dream multiple times since the last 4 years. He did not even cry when his mother died when he was 6 and people praised him as mature or worried that he was holding himself back and encouraged him to cry if he wanted to. But how could they have known that it's not like he was mature or holding himself back, it was just because since he was 4 years old he had been experiencing emotions much worse than what he felt when his mother died. Sure, he felt sad, but did he feel sad enough to cry? The answer was no. He was praised as a child who was mature beyond his age but how could he not be mature when he had been having dreams that do not allow him to wake up until he accepts all those unknown feelings as his own and matures. He had been fearing what would become of him if these dreams kept on coming, will he still be Jaden after a few more years or be someone else entirely.

"No use trying to figure out the impossible. What would become of me is a worry of the future but right now I have to figure out my current situation."

Jaden stood up from his bed and started getting ready to meet up with his father. His father was the current House Master and was also the strongest Mage of his generation in the House. He was approved by 80% of the Elders of the House. His name was Anthony. He also has the most weight in the Council.

The was comprised of the most influential people of the House but recently the things were not looking too good for the House. Originally the House was more akin to a democracy. Here any and all people who could prove useful for the House were allowed to take part in the Council and decide the future direction of the House. But recently a new faction has emerged, the Control Faction. They want all the power to decide the future of the House to be in the hands of people born in the upper echelon of the House and those born lower should not have a say in the decisions. They take up 30% of the seats in the Council. Then there is the Equality Faction, comprised of people that think that the current status quo is correct and such changes are not necessary. It is headed by Anthony and takes up 40% of the seats in the Council and the rest are neutral and are taking the attitude of wait and see.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

This goes to show just how much of a mess the current House Messorem is and now that Jaden had gotten 2 skills with both being unknown, the Control faction will not let this chance to damage his reputation go. After all it is to be noted that Jaden is considered not only the future of the house but also the future leader of Equality Faction.

After getting his thoughts steady and ready to face the difficulties head on he left his room and made way towards his father's study room. He knocked to show his intention of entering and the entered the room. He faces his father everyday but he still can't help but be afraid. It's not like his father is dangerous looking or something like that. In fact, his father is really kind looking and gentlemanly. It's just that due to Jaden's high sensitivity to mana he could feel his father's rough and nearly out of control mana and could instinctively feel his body rejecting to follow his orders and going in. It all started when his once let out some of his mana to check Jaden's mana sensitivity when he was 3 and Jaden started crying and looking fearful of his father suddenly. Since then Anthony has always been letting out his mana near Jaden so that he could familiarize himself to exceedingly imposing mana. And now it has become one of Anthony's favorite pass times.

After forcing himself to enter, Jaden saw his father, a tall but handsome middle-aged man but hair darker than obsidian looking to be in his mid-thirties. After the man saw Jaden come in he smiled.

"I have come, Father." Jaden greeted first as respectively as he can.

"Don't be so stiff, Jaden. You are my son and not some outsider."

"Yes, Father." Jaden said as he smiled at his father.

"I can see that you are still afraid of my mana. That's not good for you Jaden, you should get used to it quickly. It will benefit you in the future"

"You also know that it's not that easy. You said it yourself that it took you 20 years until you were able to get used to grandfather's mana and yours is said to be even more tyrannical. I am trying my best here." Replied Jaden trying to complain to his father. His grandfather was an Elder of the House and was known to be the strongest of his time but was not the House Master due to his absolute lack of ambition for power. Getting used to the father's mana is something like a tradition in his family and until the son get used to the mana, he cannot be taught any skills of the House including [Astral Magic].

"Alright! Alright! Hahaha.... now fun time is over. We are getting late for the meeting. You should not worry about the meeting. Even though you are unable to use your skills but that doesn't mean that you will never be able to use them. Let's go and get this meeting started." Anthony was unable to hold back his laughter when he saw his son complaining and acting like an actual 8-year-old when he usually acts a lot mature and probably his immediate is the only one who are able to see him acting like this.

While this meeting is important but they most likely won't do something like asking me to remove him from the clan. Thought Anthony.

After travelling for 2 minutes, the Father-Son duo arrived at the Meeting Hall.

"Alright quiet down everyone. The meeting is going to start." Declared Anthony as he raised his voice and took his seat at the head of the table. Jaden just stood behind his father as he was still unqualified for a seat in the Council.

"First Elder, why don't you state the issue and reason for this meeting to be held?" Asked Anthony.

"Yes, House Master." Replied one of old people sitting at the right of his father. "The issue for the meeting is the skills that Young Master Jaden had and the reason is to discuss about future actions."

After all the people at the table acknowledged it with a nod Anthony continued. "Since we all are on the same page then let's progress with the meeting. Jaden, why don't you show us what your skills look like?"

"Yes, Father." Jaden then proceeded to use his skill [Analyze]. He felt like surroundings have changed and the mana coming out from his father was even more tyrannical than usual.

"Do you feel any different, Jaden?" Asked Anthony when he felt like something was peering his secrets one by one albeit the force was too weak to find anything. In fact, the same thing was felt by all the people present here.

"Yes, Father. It seems like everything has changed but obviously, everything is the same. Also, the surroundings feel much more overbearing than usual, like I can understand more than what I am used to."

"That's enough. Now try to use your second skill."

"Yes." Jaden then tried to use his [Decomposition Magic] but the result was the same as last time. Just a small flash of blue light for an instant and being left with a completely empty mana pool.

"Alright, that's enough as well. It seems like you are tired, why don't you go back and rest for now. We will let you know the results later." Anthony suggested when he noticed his son being tired due to mana exhaustion.

"Yes, Father." After replying Jaden left and went back to his house, hoping the result of the meeting would be in his favor.
