Chapter 1 - A new adventure - Pages 1 - 3

The council and their worthless rules; not even worth the afterthought. They can’t stop me from bringing her along. There’s little they can do other than annoy me. They’ll go after her just to try and teach me a lesson.

He had fallen in love before, but it was the first time he had fallen in love so very deeply. Aulfrick grasped her hand firmly gazing at her. She was, is and will always be his everything.

Seagulls chirped with the sound of the rising tide. It was the dawn of a new day as the old dock bustled with life once more.

“I thought you’d like this place”, he smiled watching the corners on her lips turn upward. “This world isn’t completely unlike your own, even though some things are similar, others are very different.”

“My first jump and you couldn’t let me take it in could you!” her voice was stern as she tried her hardest to hide her smile. She always did that; it was one of the many reasons he loved her. Try as she might, she couldn’t tease anyone to save her life.

It wasn’t even a struggle for Aulfrick; he had eons of practice. Turning his eyes downwards; there wasn’t even a hint of a smile from seconds before. “I’m sorry love, I was just excited to…” she placed a finger against his lips stopping him mid-sentence.

“Smell that ocean air”, her eyes closed and chest expanding with the scent of the sea. “Feel the wind and spray of water against your face. This place, is so beautiful.”

Aulfrick leaned in gently pressing his lips to hers. The feeling of this moment could sustain him for eternity, “so are you my love.”

Isabella just stood there for a few more moments as she held onto Aulfrick’s arm just listening. Her heart was playing along to the beat of the ocean and seagulls; this would be a wonderful start of their adventure.

He took the first step holding his hand out as they descended from the grassy hill and walking towards the dock. “This is Spinner Island, it’s named for the local dolphin pods that swim these waters. I was thinking we stay here for a bit getting you acclimatized to this world as we go over a few things.”

Isabella didn’t answer; her gaze firmly fixed on the nearby brown and yellow flowers as she absently mindedly pulled Aulfrick along behind her. “Smell these, it’s like pine mixed with mango. It smells so pretty!” almost forcing him to smell them. “I’m sorry, what were you saying I got distracted? This place is so wonderful, I bet earth was like this back in the day”

Aulfrick smiled, “Well it still is, there are many rural places still left on earth. This place is similar that way although technology does vary from place to place. Some areas are more primitive while others more advanced. For example, the prime method of air transport here are blimps. I’ll take you on one when we get to an airport on the mainland. For now, we need to do a few things before nightfall including finding an affordable place to stay.”

Isabella’s eyes constantly lit up with excitement during their saunter through town. Kathi kabab, was her favorite after tasting all the various food from the local street stalls; she could eat some every day. She would have explored more and would have if not for Aulfrick pushing her into a lovely little room he rented above a local tavern.

“Since we left earth so suddenly, I only brought a little bit of money and no equipment or tools to help us out; we’ll be starting from scratch. It will be more fun this way especially since it’s your first time.”

The two of them sank onto the plush bed, the weariness of their journey evident in Isabella's slight yawn. Her gaze drifted to the window, as the fading sunlight cast a warm glow across the room. She turned to him, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. “Why didn’t we jump home first? I’d love to see where you’re actually from,”

“O there’s plenty of time for that later, we have all of eternity to go back home and see it. I was just excited to get you to a new world.” Aulfrick's eyes darted away briefly before hastily changing the subject. “There are several things about this world you will need to know.”
