Reality Shattered - Children of Atlantis Book 2
South American Ice Shelf - 29th Century - A night on a glacier.

South American Ice Shelf - 29th Century - A night on a glacier.

Enid and Hazel found themselves falling again. There was a white mass coming up quickly beneath them and their blue wings of energy flared out form the back of their armor. The wings fully deployed, and this time seemed to create drag properly and the pair landed on their feet. It was still a bit hard, but the ground was slippery. The boots of their armor shifted to get them traction. They were on a massive field of ice the wind bit at their faces. Enid barely noticed. She glanced up at the sky and it was a grey haze instead of blue sky. It wasn’t clouds. She wasn’t sure what it was. The wind was howling across the flat open ice plain. Hazel was starting to shiver. Enid leaned close.

“Put your helmet on and gloves on!”

Hazel closed her eyes and the helmet slithered out of the Atlantean body suite and covered her head with a shaded face plate. It had a HUD, not that Hazel could read it or even knew what it was. She started to breathe easier and her lungs began to thaw out she could feel heat from the armor all over her body. Warm air blew across her face. She turned to her mom and started shouting.

“Mom! Where are we?”

Enid laughed softly.

“You don’t have to shout I can hear you fine.”

Hazel tapped the helmet looking around inside it. Enid just didn’t even bother trying to explain.

“If I didn’t know better, I would say we’re on a glacier. But the sky looks wrong. That isn’t clouds. I’ve seen something like it before after a nuclear explosion or a volcanic eruption. But my suit isn’t detecting any radiation.”

“Could we have gone back further?”

Enid waved her hand dismissively.

“No, we definitely went forward. I’m sure we went forward.”

Enid reached opened the Atlantean pack and pulled out her cell phone. No signal. She pulled out her satellite phone, no signal. She frowned inside her helmet and put them away.

“Maybe we didn’t. But we can’t stay on the glacier. The temperature is already -40c and I think it’s still supposed to be daytime; It’s probably going to drop to -60, or -70 when night falls. Our armor is good, but I’m not sure if it is that good.”

Hazel threw up her hands.

“Which way mom?”

“I’m not sure, she looked around.”

The glacier was flat as far as her eyes could see, nothing in any direction. She looked to the sky again, no sun, no stars. Nothing to navigate by. She threw her hands up.

“I don’t know hon, I don’t know.”

Hazel pointed in a direction and started walking.

“Where are you going?”

“You said we can’t stay here, so why not just pick a direction and start walking?”

“But there might be nothing in that direction.”

“Mom there might be nothing in any direction, but you said it yourself if we stay here, we will probably freeze to death. Well, I will freeze to death. So, we might as well pick a direction and start walking, we’ll either freeze, or we’ll get somewhere.”

“The wind is coming from the that direction, so let’s head in the opposite direction so at least we’re not fighting against it.”

Hazel nodded. They walked for hours. Enid had been right. When the sky darkened, they were stuck in the pitch black. It was so completely dark that the helmet’s light amplification night vision visors were doing nothing. Her helmet was reading -78 c. Enid felt the cold seeping into the armor. Enid put the compass away. They couldn’t even see each other when side by side it was so dark. Enid dug in her pack and pulled out a flashlight she turned it on, it flickered to life. She pondered how long it would last in this sort of temperature before the batteries went from paste to frozen solid. She glanced at Hazel who seemed okay and shined the flashlight ahead of them.

“How are you doing hon?”

“I’m okay, but the armor is getting cold.”

Enid dug into her pack and pulled out a plastic wrapped bundle. She pulled it out and offered the flashlight to Hazel who took it and looked into it and regretted it immediately because she was temporarily blinded.

“That was smart.”

“Mom!”

“Well, what did you think would happen?”

Enid was tugging the bubble parka out. She helped Hazel get it on. It was a tight fit her daughter was a larger woman then she ever was. Enid then pulled out a pair of winter boots, these were not modern, in fact they were Hazel’s old ones. Hazel pulled them on.

“Better?”

“I can’t really move in this coat. Was it your daughters?”

“No, it was mine and its good until -60c Between that and the armor you should be good.”

“Mom, I’m getting tired and I’m hungry. I don’t know how much longer I can go on for.”

Enid put her arm around Hazel and helped her move forward. The wind was at their backs, so that was a blessing. She held the flashlight out in front of her. It flickered and went out about fifteen minutes later she opened it and closed it and tapped it. It was done. She put it in her pack. The pair walked on for what seemed like an eternity. Hazel was stumbling by now and it was still pitch black. Enid couldn’t even see the tinted helmet, let alone her face. Hazel eventually went down. Enid tried to move her but the cold was even getting to her now. Her body was sluggish. She couldn’t feel it, but her flesh was starting to freeze inside the armor. She shook Hazel. She was starting to panic. All her fears about the dangers of bringing Hazel along seemed to be coming true. Then she heard Hazels soft snores. She’d fallen asleep on her feet. Enid’s helmet was reading sixteen hours since arrival. Daylight should be coming soon and with that her armor would been enough to keep her from being frozen solid. She sat there for a long time her only companions the soft snores of her daughter and the howling wind across the glacier. Enid’s skin tore when she moved now. She could heat herself up by burning blood…but if they had gone back in time to an ice age this glacier could go on for days and days. She could deal with being frozen at night and using a bit in the morning to thaw out, but if she ran out it would not end well.

Her eyes were frozen in place by the time she heard a deep humming in the distance. It was traveling fast. She pushed blood to her body, and it began to warm up. Not fast enough she saw lights in the distance in the sky. She felt her skin tearing and shredding as she dug into her pack. She pulled out a flare gun and launched two of them into the air one after another. The air vehicle was passing several km to the left of them. She watched it to see if it had noticed. It changed course and she pulled out a road flair and stood up waving it. Her helmet notified her it had detected a radio signal and she could hear someone speaking what sounded like Spanish. It took her a few repeated sentences to start to make out what they might be saying.

“This is New Amazon bound TC-6401 out of Buenos Aires to New Amazon control. We just saw flares go up from the North Brazil glacier. Sending cords. Should we assist?”

“We have them on satellite imaging. They won’t last long enough for us to get out there please assist if your corporation authorizes you to do so.”

She turned her eyes as the bright lights blinded her the aircraft whatever it was kicked up a lot of snow from the glacier. It settled down and two shapes came out bundled in heavy clothing. They helped her onboard then went back for Hazel. Enid couldn’t make much out about it, but it didn’t have any wings, or rotors. One of the men ran a device over her and then Hazel. He looked normal though one of his hands was made of metal. He was speaking English.

“This one is going to need immediate medical when we get to New Amazon. She barely has any vitals.”

He laughed after he scanned Hazel.

“The big one’s fine, she’s passed out sleeping like a baby, no frost bite.”

Enid thawed out quickly in the heated air ship. She felt it lift off and jet forward. She couldn’t see much besides a pile of boxes labeled with a stylized TalisCorp logo. Which was in English. Enid’s body rapidly healed the damage she had done to it by forcing it to move when frozen nearly solid. She didn’t trust someone just waving a wand over Hazel and saying she is fine. She unsealed her helmet and it merged back with her armor. One of the pilots had seen it happen without Enid noticing. She jumped when he made a woah sound.

“Shit I thought you were almost dead kid.”

He held onto a bar on the top of the craft with his human hand and was holding a lit cigar in his other hand. She definitely wasn’t in Kansas anymore. Enid was staring at his metal hand, her daughter’s slumbering form forgotten. He scratched his scruffy cheek. He could use a shave. He had naturally dark skin he looked down at her again. She still had her Sarah face on.

“Do you speak English blondie?”

Enid snapped out of her weird daze, cybernetics, and her brain was trying to process that there was a glacier just south of the equator. She didn’t even pick an English accent, which usually ended up with her sounding like she was Scottish with some upper class British thrown in.

“Yes. Sorry.”

“Holy shit Chuck, she’s British!”

“Don’t get many of you down here. You’re kind of young to be out in the middle of a glacier yourself aren’t you? Your mom take you salvaging with her? Did your vehicle break down?”

Enid locked down at Hazel and laughed. He took another puff of his cigar surprised about her laughter.

“No, I’m the mother she’s the daughter.”

“I look young for my age, and no we had no vehicle.”

“What the hell were you doing on a glacier then? You not right in the head or something? Must have been desperate to do that.”

“We were experimenting and well, it didn’t go as expected so we ended up in the middle of a glacier.”

“You with WTO? I Heard they were doing some super high-level teleportation shit out by Pluto. Didn’t think that kind of crap was allowed on Earth. What am I saying of course you are WTO, who the hell else has the kind of money for sweet armor like that? Is it liquid metal?”

“Something like that. It’s a trade secret.”

“Oh, got it.”

“Thank you for rescuing us. My daughter probably wouldn’t have made it to New Amazon.”

“No problem. We were ahead of schedule anyway. And you are a ticket to a sweet, sweet express trip through customs. Which means that me and my man Chuck will have an extra four hours of rest and relaxation at Cloud 9.”

Enid shook Hazel but she refused to wake up. Enid let herself fall back down on her butt. The man pointed the chewed end of his cigar at Hazel.

“Sleeps like the dead, huh. Ya, my teenage son is like that. Stays up to all hours on the systemnet impossible to wake up for school drives my wife to drink.”

He put the cigar back in his mouth and offered his cybernetic hand to Enid.

“I’m Keith.”

“I’m Enid and this is Hazel.”

Enid shook out the Sarah form and let her true shape form.

“Holy shit. You got some sweet cyberware there lady. Not a bit of it showed up on the scanner. Must have cost your Corp a pretty penny.”

He held up his cybernetic forearm and hand. It was painted black.

“TalisCorp cheap as fuck. Lose a hand on the job they give you one of these bargain brand ones. Like ACME corp or some shit. Must have been under the knife for days for a job like that. You one of those full conversion jobs? Brain in a jar? Would make sense, you not showing up on life scanners after being so cold.”

“Something like that.”

“Shit! Never met a full conversion that looked anything close to human. Is that synthetic skin? Looks real. Can I touch it?”

Enid held out her hand and he took it with his flesh and blood one. He touched her skin and squeezed a bit.

“You can barely tell except for how tough it is to squeeze. Oh man. Chuck you gotta see this full conversion job. Think they’ll sell me one for my wife?”

Enid heard a response this time.

If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

“Quit being a pig, Anderson!”

Keith laughed.

“Sorry ma’am, didn’t mean nothing by that.”

Enid smiled.

“Its alright I get what you’re saying. There were a few times I wanted to trade my husband in for a new model. Nice big package, firm chest. Non-feminine facial features. Hell, any features at all besides a nice long…”

I’m not laughing Enid.

Keith laughed at her and took another puff from his cigar.

“I like you Enid. You got a good sense of humor. Your husband back in New Amazon?”

“No, he’s actually just a brain in a jar, does a lot of talking, but not much doing.”

“Seriously?”

Enid nodded.

“Shit bet holidays suck.”

“That’s not the only thing that sucks, let me tell you.”

“How’d the kid take it?”

“She’s okay with it, they talk a lot, she’s only his stepdaughter.”

Enid had no idea why she was flirting with this married man. It could have been the cigar, or the wide shoulders, or the fact his jeans were leaving little to her imagination. He had an attractive face too. Scruffy and unshaven. More than likely just an emotional response to her husband being murdered and her child being trapped in amber. Whatever it was she just went with it.

“So, how’s it work? I mean he can’t exactly keep up with his husbandly duties, can he?”

“I do whatever I want with whomever I want.”

“Is that so?”

She shrugged.

“Yep. He even encourages it.”

“Man, that has got to suck, a wife as fine as you, knowing she’s doing God knows what with God knows who. Stuck in a jar.”

“Well, he had a choice to say no, but I guess being able to talk to me was better than being dead.”

She pulled Lucius off her pack and laid him in Hazel’s arms, she stood up and stretched. She looked Keith up and down again. She knew she should be stopping herself. This was reckless but he was a man’s man. She wondered what it would feel like with someone with a cybernetic arm. She slipped her finger down the front of the armor and it opened slightly as she did, so she shifted to her Sarah face. Armor pressed out further.

“So, which do you like better? My talking business body, or my combat body?”

His eyes looked down at her new cleavage. He shifted uncomfortably pulling at his jeans.

“The blonde…definitely the blonde.”

She had a few more second thoughts run through her mind, but he was here, she needed to replenish her blood from warming herself up and healing the damage she did. No, she didn’t, she was the energy Lucius had drained from the fallen angel. But she had used some and who knows when her next chance would be. It had been a while since she had it straight from the vein so to speak. There was something to be said about the warmth of human blood. And who knows what kind of security the city had. If she fed she’d be flush and healthy looking even without the sunlight. She inched closer.

“I uh…”

“How long do we have before New Amazon?”

“About thirty minutes.”

“Sounds like enough time to me to get warm, how about you?”

She was right in front of him now and she had her fingers in the waistband of his jeans.

“Ya…I…”

“You know, I used to be a fighter pilot. I’ve never been inside a cargo hauler. It seems pretty big. Do you guys take long trips?”

“Oh ya, we’re gone for days at a time. Have bunks and everything.”

He wasn’t stopping her, so she slid her hand inside his pants and touched him. He jumped a bit.

“I’m guessing cloud 9 is some form of…entertainment. Do you have your cloths on or off?”

He nodded and pressed forward.

“O…off.”

“Would you like to get warmed up for it?”

She reached her other hand up and split the seam of her armor further down. Now her chest was barely being held in and he could see down her perfectly sculpted abdomen. She kissed him on his lips he was hesitant.

“I mean unless you don’t want too.”

She started closing the seam of her armor. He put hand down and touched hers and pushed it downwards.

“Lets not..uh be too hasty, you might overheat in that…armor.”

“Okay…”

*****

After they finished, she grabbed him and bit his neck and she gulped down his warm blood. She only took a few mouthfuls before releasing him and healing his neck with a caress. He looked out of it. Enid slipped her armor back on and made her way to where Hazel still snored through it all.

“Anderson? Anderson! Get the fuck up here I need to hit the head before we get stuck in customs.”

Enid saw a man’s head poke out. Keith came rushing up tucking in his shirt.

“Sorry man…”

“Whatever just take the controls.”

The last fifteen minutes of the ride were quiet. Chuck walked by, he was a skinny older man his hair had turned grey long ago. He nodded to her as he passed. She smiled to him. Once Chuck had passed by Enid moved into the cockpit.

“You mind if I watch?”

“I don’t mind.”

He did a double take when he noticed she’d reverted to her red hair and younger appearance.

“So…what are you doing after you deal with your corpo bs?”

“Shopping, definitely shopping.”

Keith tried very hard to focus on his controls and the landing path on his holographic HUD. Enid shifted back to her Sarah appearance. She was enjoying Keith being distracted by her. He flipped another couple of switches. He looked up at Enid.

“I got room 83 at Cloud 9 already reserved I would love to…spend more time with you.”

“Cloud 9, Room 83.”

Chuck moved past her and into the co-pilot’s seat. Enid looked at him.

“Keith said I could watch you guys landing, you don’t mind, do you? I used to be a fighter pilot but never got to fly cargo.”

“You must be WTO ex-military then. Hey didn’t you have red hair a minute ago?”

Enid shook her head and shifted to her real face and body.

“Holy shit, that is some sweet ass tech.”

Enid nodded.

“Got to love the military cyber-tech. You still in then?”

Enid shook her head.

“Corp security then I bet. How the hell did you two end up in the ice field?”

“I cannot say. Its classified.”

“Shit, you are into some spook stuff. Got it.”

“I’m guessing you called us in then?”

“Ya, we had too, unscheduled stop, we coulda been dumping cargo. Or selling some on the side. Need to make sure cover our asses.”

“Oh well, I’m sure my employers can deal with it.”

“What?”

“Don’t worry about, they rarely disappear people, usually it’s just a non-disclosure agreement and deleting records, I mean hardly ever.”

“Uh…”

He looked at Keith, he looked back at Enid.

“She’s fucking with you Chuck.”

Enid laughed.

“The look on your face.”

Chuck looked back at her and shook his head.

“You really did get me, almost pissed my pants.”

Keith laughed.

“Did you forget your diaper again old man.”

Enid looked out the front. The cargo hauler was flying in the dark and there was a holographic HUD leading it towards a target there was a wall of fog around it the transition made the craft shudder. Enid held on. Keith looked up at her.

“Weather barrier. They blast heat out all around the dome, weather’s about ninty degrees warmer inside. Causes some turbulence. Must suck in those fighters.”

“Oh no, I flew off of carriers.”

Then men looked at each other. Keith looked up at her again, his eyes lingering on her barely contained Sarah breasts. Enid realized there was probably not enough ocean that was not ice covered to have aircraft carrier.

“Holy shit you’re a starfighter pilot?”

Enid nodded to Keith. Chuck looked up at her with a new appreciation and his eyes also lingered on her chest.

“Holy crap, I thought you was talking about a hover carrier. You must be a good pilot.”

“I can fly anything, anywhere. I was best of the best. Thirty-three confirmed kills. Over a thousand sorties, only one plane that wouldn’t fly again and that’s because I cracked her airframe landing on the carrier, she had a lot of battle damage.”

“Oh, you must have fought in the Mar’s uprising and the Jovian Conflict. Shit girl you look good for your age.”

“Chuck she’s a full conversion cyborg she’ll look good for her age when she’s six hundred.”

Enid had read her fair share of science fiction, not sleeping had its advantages. Of course, sleeping also had its advantages. Once they cleared the fog bank caused by the weather barrier a massive domed city loomed out of the darkness. She couldn’t see much since it was still night. But the scale was difficult to comprehend after being stuck in the distant past for almost a century. Below she could see a well-lit road leading to a metal gate that was sealed. The dome was tinted and while she could make out blobs of light she could not see inside. There was a much bigger gate higher up that extended outside the dome. It was about three hundred feet up. She watched while Keith expertly piloted his craft through the doors after they opened and down a short tunnel, they were flying in open air high above the city. The path was marked by glowing hover beacons. She saw massive buildings; she’d refer to them as mega structures she’d describe the area as downtown if she were in the twenty-first century most had a bright logo. One golden building had the name Aurelius Corp in bright white across it, it was the only one she knew. She smiled when she saw it. That meant that no matter what currency they used in this new world she could get it easily.

Chuck had been looking at Enid who hadn’t noticed because she was too busy taking in the sites. After living for twenty-three hundred years, she looked forward to being surprised. This was bloody amazing.

“Ah, you’re Aurelius Corp! Shit, no wonder you got all that tech.”

Enid shrugged. And continued looking out of the window of the cargo hauler. They were approaching a building that resided in what seemed to be an industrial section of the dome. It was massive and she could see cargo haulers going in and leave in the air and low on the ground below. She also saw several large craft arrayed on top of the building. They had swept wings and massive thrusters on the back. She guessed they would be spacecraft. One lifted off with what seemed like a hidden VTOL system and flew out of another much larger tunnel.

Keith pointed at another one of the craft.

“I bet you flew those.”

“I had my own personal craft. One of my daughters bought it for me for my birthday.”

“She own a corp or something?”

Enid smiled, who knew maybe she did. If she were still alive. Enid assumed she would be, there is no reason Eyre should have died because of a little ice age.”

“I’m not sure what is up to now, it’s been a while since we’ve spoken.”

“Where’s she at?”

“Canada last I heard.”

“NAFTA? You got family all over don’t you.”

The cargo hauler was receiving remote telemetry and went onto autopilot and it flew into what looked like a massive parking garage for space craft. It docked at umbilical hatch which extended as they approached. Enid nodded. Looks like she’d seen everything she was going too. She leaned down and kissed Keith on the cheek.

“I will come meet you at Room 83, Cloud 9 if I can before you leave. I would like to continue getting warmed up with you.”

Keith blushed Chuck gave him a look. Enid feeling impish leaned down and kissed Keith full on the lips with tongue. And stood up and looked at Chuck.

“Thank you for rescuing us from the Glacier.”

Chuck nodded and watched her go, her form shimmered, and she was back to her real face again. Chuck looked at Keith and punched his shoulder. Enid couldn’t hear their conversation of the noise of the docks. She wondered how Hazel was still sleeping through it. She must have woken up at one point because now Enid’s coat was being used as a pillow and Hazel’s helmet was gone. A few minutes later Keith came through and went to the doors and they slid open. On the other side were six men in overalls. Behind them were a man and a woman with orange jackets on and red crosses on white patches. The woman was chewing gum and had a tablet in her hand.

“You reported a couple of people on the glacier and one being critical did she make it?”

Keith looked confused for a moment then shook his head.

“Sorry, I was wrong, she was fine, she’s a cyborg read my scanner wrong. Thought she was frozen to death, no body heat, but she was fine just needed to thaw out her synthetic flesh.”

The woman sighed and shook her head.

“Wish you’d said something sooner.”

Chuck laughed.

“He was too busy making our guest comfortable.”

The woman looked to Enid and the sleeping Hazel.

“I bet he was. Ma’am if you felt you were inappropriately touched or felt undue pressure to return the favor of being rescued, I can help you file a formal report.”

Enid smiled.

“Oh, it was inappropriate for a cargo ship, but it wasn’t unwanted.”

The woman shook her head and the male paramedic smiled. She sighed.

“Okay, if you change your mind, you have twenty-four hours to file a complaint. Though their Corp employers may allow longer. Are the two of you okay? Do you need medical services?”

Enid pondered for a moment. She knew anything that Hazel had suffered would heal rapidly if she were to shift, and she was fine. She shook her head.

“I’m fine, and my daughter is just sleeping. She could sleep through an earthquake. Her suits bio-monitor says she’s fine. Just a bit dehydrated.”

The woman nodded.

“How old is your daughter?”

“Sixteen.”

“She’s a minor then. Do you mind telling me what you were doing out on the glacier with a sixteen-year-old girl?”

“I’m sorry I cannot. Just that ending up there was an unfortunate accident.”

The woman frowned.

“Did your vehicle crash? Do you need to hire a salvage team?”

“No vehicle.”

The woman looked at her with narrowed eyes.

“I am under a non-disclosure agreement with my employer as is my daughter.”

“I’d like to speak to her.”

Enid nudged Hazel with her foot, and she didn’t stir so Enid kicked her a little harder in the arm. The armor flickered to life forming the plating and an energy shield shimmered into existence. Enid’s foot was flung backwards. She swore a few times under her breath. Everyone who was nearby jumped a little. The ones who were watching them directly were wide eyed. Which was basically Chuck and the two paramedics. Hazel looked up at Enid, she spoke in medieval Japanese, it was the language they had become accustomed too. She rubbed her eyes and groaned.

“Are we there yet mom?”

She glanced down at her arm and the round energy shield and it vanished, and the armor rearranged itself into its standard textured body suit. She looked around saw all the strange faces and probably would have been more shocked if she weren’t so half asleep.

“Mom, where are we? Weren’t we on a glacier?”

“We were rescued. You’ve been sleeping for the whole trip. A lady wants to ask you questions.”

Enid motioned to the female paramedic. Hazel made a little whining sound.

“Can’t we do this after I’ve had more sleep?”

The woman was scrambling to find a translation app. Finally, it started worked and she raised an eyebrow. The male paramedic leaned in and spoke to his partner quietly.

“You know what, it doesn’t matter. Just use your ident chip and acknowledge you declined medical attention and we’ll let you be on your way.”

Enid didn’t move a muscle and stared at her. The female paramedic’s partner tugged her arm forcibly and looked at Enid.

“You know what ma’am, we were never here, you were never here.”

He looked at Chuck and Keith.

“I didn’t see any signs of anyone who might have been rescued on the glacier, you must have been mistaken. Right?”

Chuck and Keith looked at each other and shrugged.

“You know glacier’s at night all kinds of strange things happen.”

“See, you were never here ma’am, please uh, don’t mention this in your report to WTO command.”

Enid waved. The woman was glaring at him as he tugged her away. She was speaking loud enough to be heard.

“That wasn’t even remotely by the book Khan.”

“Ya, and I don’t want to get my ass hauled into a WTO black site because I dug to deep in their shit, did you see that tech? Programable matter, energy shield. A full conversion borg that looks perfectly human. And that kid. You better bet she was a genetically engineered super soldier. No Kim I’m not fucking with that kind of hardware or backing. They were on a glacier in the middle of the night and neither of them has an signs of being frozen. Shit has WTO spook squad or special forces written all over it. Best policy is to stay the fuck away.”

“You’re fucking paranoid Khan.”

“Better paranoid then disappeared.”

Enid lost the rest of their conversation and offered her hand to help Hazel up.

“Get you’re boots off they are going to stand out here.”

Enid made sure no one was looking and put them in the pack she looked at her very expensive military surplus coat the sleeves were ripped at the seams. She sighed and just left it there. It was useless now.

“Mom, what were they saying?”

“I’m trying to think of how to say it in a language you understand so it will make sense.”

“They think we are high ranking soldiers and did not want to deal with the paperwork.”

“I sort of get that. Why is that man looking at you like he ‘knows’ you?”

“We hit it off. We should get out of here. The next officials that come by probably aren’t going to be so easy to distract.”

Enid looked at Keith and winked.

“Hopefully I can see you later.”

Hazel glared at her mother.

“I didn’t need to understand that to know you had sex with him.”

“No, I didn’t, Sarah did.”

“Mom you need help, seriously, you’re not here a day and you’ve already had sex with a strange man.”

“He was cute.”

“Mom he’s old.”

“And what am I?”

“I’m just saying you look my age. Usually if you’re going to do that there is a marriage involved. I mean why else…”

Enid shook her head.

“Lets just get to Aurelius Corp. I need to make sure we have money, and I am suspecting this armor will stand out a lot here.”
