Chapter Four

Chapter Four

I feel amazing. I wish I could just lay here in bed all day. Well, I kind of have to since I can’t walk yet… Ya, let’s just forget about that. But still, waking up from a good peaceful night's rest with no nightmares is amazing, but gaining the will to leave the comfort and warmth of your bed and blankets is one of the hardest trials in the world.

But still, getting out of bed has to be done. At least for now, until I’m able to crawl. After that, I’ll just sleep whenever I’m tired and lounge around blissfully.

It truly is a joyous day. I’m going to crawl to new heights. Figuratively, of course, I can barely crawl on the floor; going uphill would be a bit difficult. Nonetheless, it’s the perfect day to become stronger.

Along with my body becoming stronger, my eyesight has improved dramatically. I didn’t notice it until now since the changes must have been subtle, but everything was blurry when I was born. My Mother's hair and eyes weren't just a simple pink. She has Magenta eyes and long, curly Fuschia hair reaching her lower back. Speaking of my Mother, her name is Julia. I still don’t know her maiden name or our family's last name. Maybe they don’t use that tradition here, and she still has her maiden name.

Well, that’s something to figure out some other time. It’s not too important currently, but it’s something worth looking forward to. A completely brand new world with MAGIC, I mean real magic. It’s incredible that I get to experience all this. Also, human evolution is incredibly different compared to my old world.

Not only my mother but the two maids as well. Their features are vastly different than what was possible in my other world.

The first maid had Azure blue Hair that reaches her shoulders and eyes that seem like I'm looking into the ocean; her name is Ella. She seems to be my exclusive maid. She appears to be in her late teens. If I count my past life, we would probably be around the same age.

At first, it looked as if Ella was disinterested in me, but I think she's grown attached to me after taking care of me all this time. She usually has a stoic look, but I can see her smile sometimes now when she's taking care of me.

Eve was the maid sitting down in the corner when I was born. She has Burgundy red hair that reaches her shoulders as well. Her eyes are beautiful. They're a nice Carmine red. She seems a bit older than Mother, but not by much. She should be in her early thirties. As for her job, it seems she’s my Mothers exclusive maid, considering she’s at her side for most of the day.

Enough about them, though.

I'm unsure exactly what I look like since I haven't seen my reflection yet. But my Mother says that I have my Fathers' eyes and hair. So I must look like a gray-eyed baby with black hair. For further details, I’ll need to find a mirror first.

As for my Father, it turned out that he’s the Grand Duke of some empire. I hit the lottery this time, didn’t I? I also have a younger brother. He’s just been born, from what I can tell.

Yes, I know having a brother half a year younger than me is impossible; And no, it’s not that pregnancy is shorter in this world. He appears to be a half-brother. This world seems to have concubines and other practices that most would call outdated in my past life.

I haven't seen my Father since my birth. I'm unsure if he's visited since I sleep most of the day, but I doubt it. My poor Mother has been asking about him, and the maids usually try to avoid the subject. Still, they recently just mentioned that he’s just been born.

My Father seems like a scumbag, but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt until I meet him again. I’m unsure about this world's culture and acceptance of concubines and morals in general. But for the way he’s treating Mother, it’s growing increasingly difficult to justify. He might be busy, considering he’s a Grand Duke. However, not a single visit in six months is… Wrong.

But enough about my family, there are many interesting people in this world.

Sadly the Elderly couple in the room when I was born weren't my grandparents. It seems they're just Elders in the Family with much influence. The Grandpa is a Magician. Meanwhile, Grandma is the Head-Maid. But don’t let her title fool you. It seems like she's powerful. Whenever her name comes up in conversation, Ella shivers from fear.

Knock Knock Knock

Jeez, who is it? I’m trying to do my own thing right now. Couldn’t they come back sometime later?

"Madam, may I enter?" A woman's voice that I had never heard but oddly resembled Ella spoke from behind the door.

"You may, Stella."

Opening the door was a woman with Ella's same hair and eyes. This woman's length of hair, however, was different. Instead of going to her shoulders as Eve's did, it reached down to her lower back.

"Sister, what are you doing here?"

Ahh, it seems they're sisters. That would explain why their voices are so similar. Perhaps twins? They look exactly alike, but sibling resemblance can be like that.

"The Master has asked Madam and Young Master to go to his study for the Status Check and Mana Heart Activation. He says you can't keep postponing it. Children should have their Mana Heart developed at a young age so that they can use it subconsciously when they get older, Madam. Will you accompany me now to the Master?"

“Yes.” Yes? That’s all she’s going to say with such a somber look on her face? Should I be worried? I should be happy right now, ‘Status Check’ and ‘Mana Heart Activation’ are great things for me, are they not? Ahh, damn it, her expression is freaking me out. I can’t possibly die from something like this, can I? Usually, in all the books and comics I read, awakening your mana would be something that could kill you if you weren’t concentrating… But hey, this is real life, not some story that has to challenge the protagonist, right? I should be fine. I hope, at least.

“Would you like me to accompany you, madam?” Stella said with a smile on her face.

“No, I’ll go alone with Zachary. Inform him that we'll arrive at the study shortly."

This wait is killing me. I know it’s only been twenty minutes, but it feels like hours. Staring at the clock is probably just making this worse. I just need to relax. Awakening my mana is all I could have ever dreamed of. A world that’s full of magic where I have wealth and status. I can just throw myself into learning and lounge around all day.

After waiting five more minutes, we finally left the room and headed to my Fathers' study. Honestly, I wish I had left my room before. This house, no, this mansion is incredible! The ceilings seem to but thirty feet in the air,

Holy, It’s as if they were planning on inviting giants into their home with the height of these hallways. Wait… They really could be inviting giants into their homes. That would be incredible. I mean, the story mother’s been reading me does include giants.

What an interesting place. I wish my Dad could have seen some of these things. The rooms are fully lit but without any light sources. It seems the walls themselves produce a dim light but not so dim that you can’t appreciate them. These walls alone have to be incredibly expensive. It’s surreal that this single building would put any ancient work in my previous life to shame. Hell, even modern architecture can only do so much. It has to be magic or some unique magical material. But still, I’d like to meet the architects someday and ask them about some things. Their work is truly incredible.

I was still marveling at the design and thought put into this building until we turned into a new hallway. This hallway is a bit different, The room's design is blander, but it was meant to be. All your focus is commanded to be on these artifacts and portraits. Incredible, it truly is incredible.

I feel excited. There’s so much to do in this world and so much that I don’t know. Part of me wishes I could just grow up quickly and go exploring, but at the same time, what are the odds that there aren’t some incredibly powerful monsters in this world? And with my luck, I’d meet a rather strong one rather quickly… Yup, I need to be strong before I go out exploring, that’s for sure.

These artifacts are incredible. Not only weapons and armor but other pieces of equipment, A mount that’s too big for a horse referencing a beast called

“…”

AHH, damn it, Mother, please slow down. Your boy is going to become a scholar. Please slow down and let me read these things. They’re so interesting. I can’t believe I’m going to do this, it’s humiliating, but I have to know what those things are.

“WAAAHHAHAHA WAAAAHHH WAAAAAAAH WAHHAHAHAHAHA.”

Yes! It’s working. My Mother stopped. Now I only need to point at it, and she’ll take me there.

I pointed at the mount, hoping she’d take me back, but I was betrayed, betrayed by the person I trusted most in this world. It’s painful, especially after I embarrassed myself in such a way.

“Awww, so cute. Does my little Zachy wish to become a scholar in the future?”

YES, yes I do, that’s exactly it. I knew it. I knew she would understand what I wanted. I’ve always known you had my back, Mother.

“I’m so sorry, my little Zachy, but we must see your Father.” No, she can’t be doing this to me. This is just cruel. We don’t need to go see him. He hasn’t visited us in half a year. He’s dead to me for all I care. Just take me back and show me the hall.

WAAAAAAAAAHHAA!!! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!!! WAAAAHHH!!!!

“I’ve already wasted enough time sitting in the room for so long today, and I might have postponed this for a while. But I promise I’ll bring you back here soon if you stop crying.” She said with a loving smile.

I’ve never felt more defeated in my life. Hell, I died, and I didn’t feel this bad. I had to throw away my pride and practically beg my mother for something, and she just told me no. But I’ll graciously accept her offer. I need to come back, and we’re going to activate my mana, right? That’s a worthy cost, is it not?

I just need to ensure that when I’m older, she never divulges any information about this conversation. No, it’s more like an interaction we had. Ahhh, my life will be ruined if she brings this up in the future. How will people look at me?

“Thank you for not crying anymore, Zachy, don’t worry; I promise I’ll always love and protect you no matter what.” Another ominous thing to say… Well, still, it’s also comforting.

When we arrived, two guards greeted us at the door. I couldn't see their appearance due to the armor and helmet.

They opened the door for us after their bow to my Mother and Me and let us through. I saw Father sitting in the back of the room behind his desk. I couldn’t make out his appearance since he was staring at something on his desk, so I decided to look around the room. I looked to my left and saw a mirror. I saw my appearance for the first time.

I had Jet black hair with gray eyes. I needed a haircut soon since my hair was about to reach my eyes. I could see my cheeks were puffy, and I had big ears and an average-sized nose. None of my other features stuck out to me due to how little I was. But if you ask me, I'd say I'm a charming-looking baby.

Mother broke the silence as she greeted my Father.

"It's been a while, hasn't it, Reindhart."

Without looking up from his work, my Father responded.

"I see you and that child have been well, Julia." He said in a monotone voice.

"That Child? Is that really how you refer to your firstborn?" Oh, she’s getting angry. Wait, that child? Is he referring to me like that? What the hell did I even do to him? Go get him, Mother. I’m rooting for you!

Instead of answering, my Father remained quiet for a bit and looked up. But that didn't stop my thoughts. It appears that he doesn't like my Mother or me with his dull way of talking.

So this asshat didn’t visit his child since he doesn’t like us. Why did he get married in the first place, then? Don’t tell me my poor mother was forced into a marriage with a bastard like this. Don’t worry, Mother, I’ll grow up and care for you. You’re too kind to have to suffer like this.

"I'm surprised you came, Julia. I figured you wouldn't stop by like all the other times."

" "

It seems like she wasn’t joking when she said she postponed it before, hell I think it might have been an understatement.

Seriously, they don't like each other one bit, huh?

"How's your 2nd son? Skylan was his name, was it not?"

"He's well. We already activated his mana and checked his Status. His Mana Pool is relatively high, even for nobility. He also has a Talent for Swordsmanship with a SS Ranking."

Father seems excited. SSS has to be pretty high, no?

Wait, “Mana Pool,” “SSS Ranking,” “Talent,” and “Status”? It couldn't be, could it? There have already been way too many weird things. Lately, I don’t want any more. Especially not this.

No, there's no way I’m just getting nervous for no reason right now. Getting reincarnated alone is hard enough to believe. But still, is it possible? If it is, I'm screwed. I don't want to die again. Wait, if it’s true, then am I alive in the first place?

If it’s true, I didn’t hit the jackpot. I might as well be the unluckiest person in the world.

Let’s just calm down for now. There's a really good chance that I’m just worrying for nothing. Even though I’m saying this, I can’t get rid of this uneasy feeling.

"Alright, Julia, let’s stop with the pleasantries, hand over the boy, and I’ll check his Potential and see what his Mana Pool is."

I could tell Mother didn't want to. She was scared. It doesn’t seem like for herself but for me.

Nevertheless, she reluctantly agreed.

I wonder why she’s so scared. I don’t think this should be bad.

Holding me in both his arms, my Father stared at me briefly. He let go of his right and now only holds me in his left arm. He grabbed two spheres and placed them on the desk. One Sphere was translucent, while the other was like stone.

Grabbing my hand and placing it on the stone-like Sphere, my Father smiled. I got anxious when I saw his smile. I looked at the sphere and was joyful when I saw the results.

But then it dawned on me the actual implication of what I had just seen.

And that's when my worst fears came true. It was when my theory wasn’t just a theory anymore.

This... It's too similar. I already know it’s true, but I don’t want to believe it. I refuse to believe it.

Before I could continue my thoughts, my Father grabbed my hand and placed it on the translucent Sphere.

I felt a tingling sensation over my body and a small amount of pain in my heart. The pain wasn't unbearable, but I wouldn't say it wasn’t painful, either. But with this, I felt as if something in me had changed. It's as if I was living without one of my Five senses, and a new sense was just added—my sixth sense.

I saw the ball begin to fill with five different colors. It stopped at a bit more than the half waypoint. The other half didn't change and kept its translucence.

"Hmm, his mana pool seems average for nobility, but his Potential is higher than his brothers. He also has many more Talents and Skills than his brother."

"The Liikol’Ner and Ghilverst artifacts are quite useful, aren't they? I remember I almost died when I tried activating my Mana Heart."

Damn, it is true, isn’t it… The artifacts look exactly like they were described in the novel. Not only their looks but their effects as well. Artifacts that show people's Status and one that would show how much mana one had, and one artificially created their Mana Heart. The Status board as well. It's the same layout as in the novel.

"So did I. It does work wonders. Who knows how many geniuses it saved."

What another ominous thing to say again. Still, I have much to think about, but I’m just so tired right now. No, I can’t fall asleep right now. I need to plan everything has changed.

Damn this body, I really can’t fight it. My body gave out before I could continue my thoughts. But I already know the truth of this world and the inevitable outcome. I refuse to believe it. No, I don’t think fate could be so cruel.
