Day 14
We woke up early and managed to clear three floors.
The 34th floor was hard to clear making us take a long time. Instead of having a large number of weak monsters, the room contained around twenty strong ones. I realized the limits to my physical capabilities. I could no longer rely on just out powering my foes.
When I first entered the room, I saw the monsters in front of me.
Level: 66
HP: 3122/3122
MP: 412/412
Species: Golem - Dog Variant -
Description: These stone statues resembles dogs that died loyal to their previous owners. Their loyalty persevered even in death, resulting in them coming back from the dead as a golem. They act like gargoyles and come to life whenever an intruder passes by.
The room was plated with marble flooring and there were pillars holding up the celling. It was a really exquisite room. Pretty grand as compared to the forests and rocky like terrains. The flooring was also chequered with black and white tiles. They were clean to the point where I could see my reflection just by looking down. Candles were placed on the wall with a giant crystal hanging on the celling, lighting up the room. Also, there was a red carpet that was laid out to the next door that was 50m away.
I could faint from happiness by just breathing in the fresh air.
Wow… this room looks amazing.
『Pay attention you idiot. There are twenty golems in front of us.』
Take a chill pill Silica. They’re just statues.
『Are you really that stupid… you’re facing this room own your own then.』
I swear that Silica just laughed to herself. She had a huge grin on her face and she flew off to a safe distance. I don’t think that this room will be much of a problem though. I’ve soloed enough rooms to know that only boss rooms are hard.
Twenty dogs that looked like German Shepherds were neatly standing on pedestals next to the door. They were sitting lifelessly, and upright with their eyes staring right at me. I ignored them and continued walking on the red carpet. I walked in a dignified manner and tried to imitate the way celebrities walked. It was my first time on the carpet after all.
Who could have made such a room… who could have even made this place? At first I thought mankind had made this dungeon. But this place was too random. It was impossible to make a forest underground or build such a grand room. How powerful must this ‘Sin’ be to have built this place? If the sin was a lesser god, how powerful would a greater god be? I hope I can meet a greater god one day. I have a lot of questions to ask.
Before I knew it, I was standing in front of the door. Using my tail, I pushed down the door handle.
*Crackle* *Crackle*
The sound of something moving entered my ears. Hmm… that was odd. My nose hasn’t picked up the scent of anything moving. My keen sense of smell has saved my life many times in this dungeon. It could pick up movements of enemies that were not in my line of sight. Making fighting multiple enemies easier.
Turning around, I saw the twenty Dog shaped golems getting off their pedestals. They were alive. I saw Silica flying behind them. One hand was carrying her wand, the other was placed on her lips. No doubt she was snickering at me right now.
Goddammit Silica. Why didn’t you stop me from opening the door?
『Kekeke… I warned you didn’t I? Baka Kitsune.』
Then at least separate them. Twenty is impos-
『Too bad. It’s your punishment for not listening to my warning. (︶ω︶)』
Looks like I’m fighting alone. Maybe it’s true that I’ve been too reliant on Silica lately. Even though she doesn’t help by using spells that outright decimates our enemies, she helps by trapping and disabling monsters. That helped increase my combat experience as I got to fight the monsters myself. I must say our teamwork has almost reached perfection. We did not need to telepathically communicate to know what the other was going to do.
The golems did not wait for me to make the first move. Four of the dogs dashed straight at me. I retreated to my right by running as fast as I could. Fighting twenty dogs head on was suicidal. I needed to separate them.
A group of dogs had followed me and blocked off my escape. They had read me like a book. I was now trapped in a corner with the dogs surrounding me. The dog closest to me started to slowly walk up to me. The golems were smaller than me. I was the size of an adult lion while they were mere dogs. But they unknowingly fell in my trap. By fighting in a corner, it limits the number of options they have to attack me. My back was fully covered by the walls and if they wanted to attack, they had to face me head on.
The dogs did not foolishly attack me. Instead they were waiting for me to let my guard down. The dog that walked up to me was standing in front of me. It was expecting me to retaliate by killing him. If I ever laid my paws on him, the rest of the dogs would pounce on me. It seemed the dogs were trying to distinguish if I were friend or foe.
The stone statues stood in front of me. They did not move at all and were back to their lifeless form. I need to make my move.

I bit the head of the first dog before jumping into the shadow of the wall. Mmm the rocky chunks of the golem tasted like chocolate. The pieces melted in my mouth. Delicious.
The room was bright making the shadow of the walls to be small. If the shadow I entered was small, it limits the options I have on exiting. Going in and out of the same exit was a redundant and useless action. My abilities were useless in combat.
The rest of the dogs ran up to the shadow of the wall I entered and started to swipe their paws at it. Pfft… they looked pretty stupid from the screen I was looking out of. I then exited the shadow about 20m away from the dogs. That was the maximum distance I could exit the shadow from.
Silica give me a hand.
『So fast..? I thought that you would at least take out ten of those golems before begging me for help. I’m surprised that you noticed it immediately. You sure try to act smart. Baka Kitsune.』
Yeah. I’m weak against monsters that are fast in large amounts.
『Your physical abilities clearly outclass the monsters in this dungeon. Some bosses can’t even lift a finger against you. But your skills are useless. If you only rely on your physical prowess, you won’t survive in the real world. Use everything you can to your advantage. 』
The dogs noticed that I exited the shadow and started to charge at me. The dogs were way weaker than the bear I fought on the 30th floor. If I ever get caught off guard, tens of dogs could jump onto my weak body and rip it to shreds. The thought of having my intestines gutted out was not a good one.
I ran to the pedestals that the dogs were standing on, before smashing it with my tails. Debris of the stone rubble fell onto the ground. I used both of my tails to take two of the longest and sharpest pieces that I could find. I had a piece in each tail.
Stolen story; please report.
The golems were charging blindly at me. They looked like savages to me. With the rubble in my tail, I threw it as I hard as I could.
*Smash*

The stone like spear had hit two of the closest dogs. It smashed when it made contact with the dog making its body crumble through the impact. Looks like I was right. The pedestals were made from the same material as the dogs.
After I kept throwing the spears, the number of dogs dwindled down and eventually, they were wiped out.
『Booo! I wanted to force you to call me Silica Oujo Sama. ( ˃̣̣̥ω˂̣̣̥ )』
I could have died you know. You also made me realize how useless my skills are.
『You looked pretty lame throwing javelins at the dogs.』
My body is too fragile. I can’t fight them upfront.
『You’re coming up with a bunch of excuses. You were more agile than the golems. Your size and strength outclassed them as well. Your strength and speed make up for your shitty defense. If you don’t learn how to use your body, you never will.』
Why are you even helping me to get stronger?
『I’m training my pet. ヽ(^◇^*)/』
….
Our conversation then when on with me stating that I’m not Silica’s pet while she kept saying that she was my owner. I felt kind of sad when Silica reprimanded me for being a wimp. I considered Silica to be a friend. We had gone true so much by this point. It was also true that I hardly fought close up against strong foes. I usually relied on Silica to disable their mobility before I came close.
I’m not afraid of dying. I’ve died before. I just have something I need to fulfil before dying. If I can’t even get out of here alive…
I bit my lip at that thought. I have to get out of here. Revenge…
Silica and I ate dinner before going to sleep. We had made little progress today.

Day 15
Nothing much happened today. We conquered nine rooms and reached the 43rd room. Silica was acting as my support again. This allowed us to clear rooms as fast as we usually did.
Teaming up with Silica again made me realize how much she helped me during fights. Instead of being annoying and insulting me, she becomes focused and supports to the best of her abilities.
The way that I fought relied on overpowering my enemies with my strength and speed. If there were large numbers, I relied on Silica to support me and separate the enemies I faced. Without her, I would get ganged up on and easily lose. I would resort to using trickery or outsmarting my opponents. It was impossible for me to win straight up fights with someone who has equal stats as me.
My skills that I gained from evolution were utterly useless. My shadow ability was mainly used for storage and could only be used as mobility during fights. The mobility it grants is just an escape tool. If I bring a stronger foe into the shadow, I would definitely die. My humanoid transformation was useless as well. It had an absurd mana cost and was harder to use than my fox form. Fighting as a human would just make me weaker.
I hope that my next evolution would be a tad bit useful.
Also, lately I’ve gotten to near death situations. After the lecture I receive, I’ve started to fight at closer range. I literally run up to my opponents and fight them head on. To my surprise, this method was really effective. My sense of smell allowed me to detect enemy movements and my agility allowed me to dodge incoming attacks.
But in the 39th room, the boss who was a giant praying mantis, almost managed to bite my arm off. It was thanks to Silica’s quick reflexes that I still have my front paw. She created an ice lance that pierced the praying mantis head. Sometimes I wonder if she really needed to travel with me in the first place. After she got back her mana, she seemed to be really strong.
I’ve had asked her about her seal and the ant queen. But she seemed to avoid the questions by talking about different topics. Well… if she wants to keep that a secret, I don’t really mind. After all, I think of her as a friend.
The 43rd was inhabited by a tribe of ostrich like monsters. It had long legs that had sharp claws. They also ran as fast as me, making it hard to hunt them down. They had made giant nests that contained a soft cotton like material. After we killed them, I stored them in my shadow before we stole their beds for the night.
Sleeping on something soft for a change felt amazing.

Day 16
I had reached level 49 when we completed the 50th room. Silica and I were a great combo.
I could no longer solo rooms and fighting alone could be considered suicide. The monsters in the higher rooms were on the same power level as me. I needed to rely on tricking my opponents in order to survive.
One of the tactics I’ve learnt was something I called ‘Shadow Passing’. It was basically entering a large shadow for movement before entering my prey’s shadow. They won’t notice you enter their shadow and by turning into human form in their shadow, I can come out and use my claws or fangs to tear their head off. Allowing me to assassinate them. It felt as if I were a ninja. But it requires me to move stealthily and quickly in fox form. I had failed a couple of times to even manage to pull it off once.
I was happy as I finally managed to make use of my abilities. Silica on the other hand, laughed at me whenever I failed at Shadow Passing. She seemed to gain enjoyment at my failures. My Shadow Passing skill also makes me very vulnerable. If I enter a monsters shadow and they notice me, I would be a sitting duck. I would not be able to leave the shadow and I’ll eventually run out of mana.
We also ran out of fruits lately. After passing the forests zones, we were unable to find any fruits or meals that suited to Silica’s taste. She shouted a bunch of angry emoticons in my head before throwing tantrums. She really acts like a child sometimes.
After we finished the 50th room, we ate dinner which consisted of roasted kobold meat. Silica puked after I told her she ate the intestines of the Kobold. She was eating with a wide smile on her face before I said that. Anyway, the intestines were the best part of the kobold. I don’t see how it could be disgusting in the first place. At the end of the day, it’s just food.
After eating the roasted kobold, we went to sleep.
