Chapter 9: Linus
“Sir, multiple corpses incoming from 12 o'Clock!” yelled Omar
“Sir! Greens!” yelled Lucas
Linus stood on top of a small car with his squad below him, taking shots. Zombies came from all sides, slowly overwhelming them. Linus took out his backpack and grabbed a Heckler and Koch HK69A1 grenade launcher and fired at the horde of zombies behind them, immediately clearing the wave of zombies with exceptions of a few.
“Press forward! We’re getting out of here soldiers!” Linus yelled as he waves his hands out towards the opening.
As Linus hopped down from the car he reloaded the Heckler, quickly catching up to the squad with Jake being pointsman. Linus stopped momentarily and turned around, aiming the heckler at the car, where the zombies started to gather around as they chased after them. Linus fired the Heckler, exploding the car and the zombies alongside it. Flames flew as the gas within the car combusted as well after the grenade launched onto it, the corpses flew in each direction with either their entire body or part of it, while the flames caught onto their bodies.
Linus sneered at the zombies as they caught on fire and slowly died down onto the ground as their body turned charred. The green zombies at the back simply stared at Linus’s group and slowly retreated back within the alleyway.

Linus was in a separate room while all the other members of the squad worked on securing the place, setting up the barricades. Linus called Jake inside the isolated room.
“Jake, why are you concerned?” Linus asked while he sat down on a worn out green couch.
The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
“Concern? I’m just concern about this mission, the number of corpses far exceeded our estimation of how many we would encounter in the mission’s time frame. Especially since we’re currently a couple days later than our expected time of arrival to the mission’s goal.”
“Time, and patience are required, if we just blindly charge down towards the thousands of them just to reach our goal we’ll just end up being surrounded by a mass majority of them. Think of it as a tactic of bait and kill. Dwindle the enemy numbers.”
“...But the enemy we are facing this time are the undead populace that used to live and prosper here. They are simply the husk of the livings. They have no losses, they simply gain their ranks back by killing the living. “
“Fine, tomorrow set the charges at point K and J. If we blow that part up the zombies will be deterred towards there. Take Lucas and Omar for the job I’ll have Zack sit with me at this place, after you placed it just head on back here and give me the charges. Also I want you to set a different charge on point L.”
“I understand point K and J but point L isn’t even close to us at the moment.”
“Don’t question, just set the charges, we may need it for certain occurrences.”
Jake left the room after the door closed, Linus locked the door and grabbed a black case out. Within the case there were multiple weapon parts, and another case that held the ammunition. There was a letter next to the weapon assembly parts, but Linus didn’t touch it. Instead he started to fix the parts together one by one. Creating four different small parts of the weapons and finally he stopped. Placing them carefully in his backpack he grabbed his m16 and started to clean the gun.
**********
A knock came from the door, Linus got up from the couch and opened the door. Jake was standing there.
“Jobs done Linus.”
“Good job, give me the remotes then.”
Jake handed over the detonators to Linus. He takes them and stuffed them inside his inner jacket.
“Now, commence the operation. We’re going to be the first one to get to the goal.”
Linus held onto a detonator and went outside to tell the squad.
“Time to pack up and make a mad dash for the end!” yelled Linus
The squad nodded and Linus pressed the button of the detonator, explosions far away blew up. The sounds of concrete and bodies colliding with the asphalt road were heard, groans near the doorways walked towards the sound with quick haste.
(After half an hour )
Omar on the window peeked through the barricades and made a “clear” handsign. Linus nodded to Omar’s signal and immediately lifted his hand and created a signal. The Squad looked back on him and nodded, Jake opened the door slowly and rushed out and stood in the open while signalling the others to follow him.
The streets were empty, devoid of life and corpses. The smell of the decayed still lingered on the street. Nothing has changed during the past hours that they stayed within the barricaded building, the only thing that has changed was the number of the undead that still roamed around.
Linus oversaw the surroundings and immediately made a hand signal to Jake “Forward”. Jake saw it and nodded to Linus’ command, held up his Desert Eagle and a bowie knife out.
