Interlude 1: Prosperia, the Deity of Life

Worship of the goddess Prosperia has spread from time immemorial. Her cult is the most widespread in all the kingdoms with temples found in every major city. The elves of Illyria consider Her their patron, but every race honours the goddess of Nature. With dominion over vitality and vegetation magic, She is a goddess of harvest and fertility, a guardian of farmers and gardeners, and a patroness of love and marriage. Prosperia is worshiped in most Northern countries, primarily by the people closely connected with nature, like farmers, lumbermen, or rangers.

Prosperia is as transient as nature. She takes on numerous forms but the most recognizable ones are the Maiden, the visage of beauty and youth; guarding young girls, encouraging love, and blessing marriages.

The Mother, protectress of women pregnant or in childbirth; women of every race, age, occupation, or social position have esteem for her.

And the wrinkled Crone; representing the maturity and wisdom that come with age. She provides Her voice to selected Oracles to disseminate divine knowledge amongst the masses and forewarn against coming danger.

After being admitted into the priesthood, young priestesses receive new robes of green and tasks from the abbess; usually in service of the rural community or one of the many temples spread across the land. Many travel around the world as midwives or healers specialized in illnesses of women and children, as wandering doctors, teachers, and governesses. Their services are in great demand by the armies of all kingdoms but priestesses of Prosperia take a vow of pacifism and neutrality. They refuse to take sides in any conflict and treat all injured with equality and kindness.

The Wolven Spire located in Atilan, capital of the north human Eidunn Empire is said to be the creation of the Goddess. Many elves travel from their home continent of Illyria braving the journey across the Frozen Gulf to undertake the Initiation.
